He was really good in Pitch Black, that's one of my favorite movies. he actually has a lot of range as an actor, he just gets a lot of roles in shitty action movies, where his parts are poorly written
American movies always seem to waste great Martial Arts talent. Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Bruce Lee, Chow Yun Fat and now Donnie Yen have awesome movies overseas but their talents are wasted as sidekicks to some B List actor here in the states. I'd wish they would write movies from the ground up with these roles in mind and not just the "Modern Kato" roles these actors get. Such a waste of talent. Keanu Reeve's The Man of Tai Chi was a great entertaining movie and an example of how to use martial arts in a non-exploitive way.
What's wrong with Donnie Yen in xXx Returns? He had the most intense close combat scenes after the main character and had plenty of times to show his kung fu.
Not to mention Iko Uwais in MIle 22 which his fight scenes was awesomely choreographed but ruined the entire scene with shaky cam and choppy editing, what a waste of talent :(
Do you guys know why you never see people have to go to the gas station in the fast and furious movies? it's because they have Vin DIESEL!!!!!! I'm sorry, I will leave now.
Vin Diesel's best role came in 1998. And he was in it for less than 30 minutes. Now all he does is the stupid shoulder turnaround and we are family crap.
4:02 Holy shit.... This was an actual scene someone wrote. This was an actual script accepted by a studio.. Look, I don't expect every movie to be amazing, but garbage like this is what makes Hollywood a joke.
parkerH2 yea what a douche. I want to read some comments whole listen to Chris' opinion. not ruin the video by spoiler the grade. can you please stop doing this dashie plushie . I see you do it all the time
This is Xander Cage! He can kill you all with one sword stroke just like cutting grass! I'd advise not getting killed by him! His sword traps the souls of it's victims!
Listen. Everything Chris says is right. Everything everyone is saying is right. This is a really bad movie. But I went in expecting a bad movie that would entertain me and that's what I got. Because that's what the first xXx is. A bad movie that's really entertaining. The second one was straight up bad and NOT entertaining. But this one went back to being bad and entertaining.
Adam Droge xXx 3 is a FUN movie. That's its purpose and its shows that. If it took it seriously, then it would be really bad. xXx 2002 wasn't great, but it did entertain us.
Agreed. I love the first two XXX movies. They are so stupid, it is amazing. But really I love them. State of the Union has one of my favorite scenes in a dumb action movie, jacking a tank. Xbit doing it to(remember him?). So yes, I'll see this movie, only because I know what I am getting into. A guilty pleasure.
mr. Wldasoldmysoul4pussyasateen Mostly just that he doesn't do or say much, and the thing that makes the characters memorable has nothing to do with him. He's not a terrible actor, but not very good either.
no.... its how the indian speaks.... even priyanka had same accent before, but she managed to improove it on quanticoo....dont you ever notice how indian speaks on their reality show???? n even many indian youtubers have the same accent....
axcel rana but deepika is giving the sense that every Indians talk like that when not all of them do. For goodness sake she sounds like apu from the simpsons
yur fact may be true but actually thats the original accent na.... maybe she wanted to use her own jus like how the russians , irrish and the asians uses their own acccent.... but honestly deepika wuz horrible in the movie n the accent made her even more horrible
You know, when you mentioned that jar jar moment, it reminded me of True Lies, when Jamie Lee Curtis tried to kill some bad guys but the machine gun recoil surprised her and she dropped it, then the gun kept falling down the stairs shooting all of her targets.
I know he's a legend and he moves really well for someone over 50 years old but I can't stop thinking he looks a bit like Kermit the Frog the way he runs with his back hunched and arms far in front of himself.
He doesn't have top 10 favorite films. He said that a couple of times in the past. You can look at his A+ Movies playlist, that's the closest you will get.
He has one line, isn't on screen, and isn't the lead so we don't have to watch him struggle to act. He doesn't hold a candle to Swarchenegger, Stallone or the Rock. Also I can't remember if I saw that in the theaters or not. Looked like it could suck, but didn't.
Ryan Larsen that's okay he already has a 1.5 billion dollar movie. he doesn't need you lol. learn how to have enjoyment in a movie and not be technical for once.
Yeah. I don't understand the Fast and Furious movies success. It is like the majority of movie goers turned into a bunch of morons. Things go crash and boom and they eat it up like a bunch of grade schoolers. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a well made action movie once in a while, just not any of Vin Diesel's.
I'm seeing this not just for Vin Diesel, but Donnie Yen. I'm also seeing it for Tony Jaa, a very promising Muay Thai actor that I know has an amazing future.
>says the movie doesn't take itself too seriously >doesn't like how the movie doesn't take itself too seriously by parodying the fact that Vin Diesel is a macho sex machine >okay
I disagree with you on this Chris. I was actually surprised, I enjoy this movie a lot and probably thinks this is the best of all xXx. Donnie Yen steals the show for me and Vin Diesel actually looks naturally funny here. I loved how they team up various celebrities from other internationals and I personally find it very unique. More refreshing than many senseless nonstop action movies out there.
Aufinator I don't know what people are expecting, for me it was like Mw2 campaign, didn't make a lot of sense but man!!! did I enjoy the ride!! Lol Atl.com
+syminite1 Hell yeah. It was a total adrenaline rush from beginning to end, and I never got bored. Perhaps one of my favorite guilty pleasures of 2017.
Chris usually gets it right, but I gotta disagree with him on this. The movie certainly won't produce any Oscar nominees, but it's a good XXX movie. Vin Diesel does just fine in it, and the supporting cast is quite interesting with Donnie Yen exceptionally good. Tony Jaa seems a bit underutilized considering his skill level with stunts. The only part of the movie I noticed hinting at another one was at the end. Maybe Chris was just in a bad mood before he watched it.
I really miss the action vibe of the 90's, movies like Die Hard, Predator, even the chump COMMANDO was good rather than these shallow over the top hollow so-called action films.
This film has the honour of being the second film I fell asleep through in the ciniema. The first being Mission Impossible 2. It lost me almost straight away with possibly the worst opening scene of a movie I have witnessed. I felt embarrassed for Samual L. Jackson.
My face was on blank mode almost all throughout the movie, where everyone was going ooh, ahh, wah and haha.... I only widen my eyes during the awesome Donnie Yen's first appearance fight scene and strangely LOL at Ice Cube's cameo.
I'm a bit dissapointed Chris didn't mention Neymar when he talked about other characters in the movie. I guess that he was probably in the movie for about 5 minuts, but I would still like to hear what he thought about him.
I gotta say, Chris, that I think you completely missed the boat on this one. Just got back from a screening. All I can say is that the current 5.6 rating on IMDb is a damn joke. Return of Xander Cage is easily the best paced, big budget action film since Mad Max: Fury Road. Don't get me wrong, because it is an incredibly stupid film, but it's also damn entertaining from start to finish. For example, Donnie Yen is finally allowed to do what he does best in a Hollywood movie. It's not rocket science - let the guy kick some ass. The only negative that popped out to me was the awkward sexual innuendos near the beginning, which felt very out of place and a bit cringeworthy. Other than that, this is fantastic action trash that everyone should go out to support. You get 3 action scenes within the opening 30 minutes, then a truckload of action afterward. Just as importantly, every single moment between the action is used to drive things forward. This movie does not waste time, so it safely avoids the “dull filler” that can drag these movies down. I really enjoyed the cast as well. It may have been a corporate suit who decided to cast a different actor from every country for the purposes of box office appeal, but it felt like these people had a blast making this movie and they seemed to have good chemistry together despite the fact that the character development was basic at best. Tony Jaa ditches his serious mug for a loony, dance-crazy role that had me in stiches. Nice to see “The Hound” from Game of Thrones here too. The action is completely ridiculous, but it’s certainly plentiful enough and has good enough quality to be satisfying. There are certain instances that overuse editing, but it’s only an issue at certain points and I was not distracted by it for most of the runtime. It’s certainly better than most of Paul Greengrass’s titles. I almost never say this about a big budget Hollywood action film, but I want a damn sequel! I give it an 8.5/10.
I haven't seen the new xXx movie yet but I don't think it's right to compare the xXx franchise to a film like Mad Max: Fury Road. What makes Fury Road so special is that it manages to tell an actual story with thought provoking themes while at the same time giving the audience an explosive thrill ride to remember. The essence and themes of the story are brought about through Miller's direction which was capable of immediately establishing the misery of a post nuclear world. Through mere camera shots we could understand a myriad of things including character motivations. It was a perfect example of show, not tell. Fury Road appeals to both people wanting high thrill action and people who like their movies to make them think. The same can't be said about the xXx franchise, it's just action for fun.
Asian Movie Enthusiast I completely get what you mean, from a PURE ENTERTAINMENT standpoint, I was entertained from start to finish, I love well made movies like any film buff but this knew exactly what it was and went balls to the wall with it and it's a complete cheesy blast
They should have taken a page from *Mechanic: Resurrection* and just stopped giving any *f***s* about being serious. Better yet, do a crossover with The Mechanic next sequel. Seeing Diesel & Statham together again could be cool. They fight, then become friends, Diesel has muscle, Statham does *Transporter*-style stunts, romance ladies, blow crap up, etc.
I think xXx, like the expendables, are a big budget purposeful hilariocity movie. Like that scene in state of the union "WE CANT LET NO ONE KNOW A WHITE GUY HIJACKED US" I think this movie was bred with the intention of being bad. And it was hilarious as all hell. I give it a B just because I couldn't stop laughing. Hell the Vin Diesel in the original's xXx's acting was so fucking awful I couldn't even hear what they were saying half the time because I was laughing so hard
there is a huge difference betwen guilty pleasure and GARBAGE , the first one was cool and established a geat XXX character , this one is just pure cliche and garbage just like the latest fast and furious movies
Gummi Bear Obviously another idiot who judges a movie they haven't seen. It was fun yeah some of it was kinda stupid but oh well. Now go back to your mommys basement.
