Anton I have an acquaintance that’s think’s like you on this topic. He feels speaking on oppression and racism is pointless bcuz he was able to start a company and make himself some money. I was there for his journey to making some money and starting his company. He received No after No when trying to access credit. He was looked at like how did you get here being a young black man at the companies that he worked for. He repeatedly had money stolen from his check by a white man. When he complained about it to the higher ups (white men) in the company, they did nothing about it. Racism isn’t debatable, it exists. It is carried out systematically through banks and their lending processes, jobs and who they will hire, who they will promote, and how much they will pay when you are black. And racism is also carried out by individuals. Let’s not forget Jim Crow laws as well as Redlining. Do the research on where food desserts are located. Do the research on where planned parenthood’s and liquor stores are located. How did projects even come into existence??? What’s there purpose??? Who runs the music industry??? Who runs the public schools and decides what they teach??? Why are black men and women mistreated at a much higher rate than other races when going to receive medical treatment??? How do white cops treat black ppl when they encounter them??? I can keep going on and on pointing out present day oppression and racism. Jas is right about the importance of teaching your black child how white america as well as other races will likely treat him in most situations. You should prepare them for the good and the bad and build their confidence, resilience, resources, and work ethic up to position them for success in this society. I’ll end with this statement. Racism and oppression are very present today, but so are opportunities for success for black folks.

People hate when I say this. But black and white americans share a common culture. We may have experienced it different, but we share a common culture, language, & history. After black people, white Americans will be the best option for a black child because they may not have the black experience, but they have the American experience and culture. Do most black people who have this view not even know that sold by black people and to get a slave from Africa they were likely to die from a disease if they traveled farther than the coast to get slaves. So our own people would bring (Black) captives to exchange for raw materials, and also the three biggest slave breeding companies in what we call now America were owned by black people, also to add the cherry on top most of the bottom half of white people were also classed as slaves to be sold the same way it’s almost like slavery was a tribal thing instead of race. If more people did their own research they would know. If you really let racism hold you back at this point you just want life handed to you.
