Fun fact: this song was recorded as a demo. The group had already broken up when it became a hit after radio stations started playing it. So they reunited.
Dan said it came to him on the bus on the way home from work and he didnt have anything to write with or on so he had to replay it over and over in his head until he got home then he had to blow off his wife to go get it written down when he got home
Don'cha miss the early MTV ? Such great music and mostly engrossing videos. Sadly I have to admit that I have finally become my parents because I hate what kids call music now and I yearn for the good old days. Hey, . . Get Off My Lawn ! ! !
Good idea kiddo. I'd forgotten about that tune. The kids would have fun with that one. Amber would be right in the middle of that kinda fun. She's got the heart of a Flower Child and Hippy of the 60's and 70's. Oblah Dee Oblah Da by The Beatles is one of those songs.
This is such a great song. It was in heavy rotation on our campus radio when I was in college in the '80s. I never really thought it fit with the punk rock / alt rock format of the station, but I played it every week during my time slot.
The wife here...So I was a southern girl...raised with those morals of "no huggy no kisses until I get a wedding ring"..So..this was FOR REAL advice if not a demand from southern parents...Therefore as a late teenager it was funny for us to hear a comedic take on this subject..And Yes Ms. AMBER. They're very authentically southern.. .
@@kellypedersen9896 I know that the guy who gives his bride and wedding guests an unexpected moment of laughter is someone I'm going to like. Good for him. 😊
Nobody doesn’t love this love this song. Heard it played by an 80’s hair band cover group and it brought the house down more than anything else they played.
Played This Song Back in 86 When It Was Released,Became A Standard Must Play Song !! Pro Musician Myself Back in The Late 70's, 80,s and 90's and 2000's and Had Many A Day Job's !! 5 & 6 Nighters Were Rough When I Got Older, But Not Anymore !! LOL Great Song !!
If you want Southern Rock with a 90s flair, you’ve got to check out The Black Crowes. I would start with “Hard To Handle” and then “She Talks To Angels.” I feel like you may have reacted to them, but I can’t remember!
They have done black crowes before. They are one of my fav bands for sure. I like thorn in my pride and soul singing among many many others. I also really love Chris Robinson Brotherhood which was kind of a grateful deadish jam band after the crowes broke up. There is also...little feat for a lovely southern band. You're welcome! You want to try your hand at Spanish moon from the live album. Also Dixie chicken. Fat man in the bathtub. Willing. OMG you just can't go wrong.
Another southern rock song that should fit in the top 5 of all time ... do the live version of Marshall Tucker Band "CAN'T YOU SEE" from the early 70's.
They already did it. I had never saw that live video before, always loved the song, but that made it mean so much more. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ybn1hUo2NdU.html
Another Georgia band you will like is Drivin’ N’ Cryin’. Try “Fly Me Courageous” for a heavier song and “Straight To Hell” for a mellowed sound. Another great one is “Honeysuckle Blues”.
Oh Yeaaaah! Love DNC. "I See Georgia" and "Turn it up or turn it off" are some other good ones. If you are in the mood to crank it to 11 check this one out from Kevn- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Rnos09DWEgM.html
I know you know about the band Three Dog Night....well something sad has happened.....Yesterday...the world lost a brilliant talent in the producer, engineer and musician Richie Podolor. Richie was an amazing musical guide for Three Dog Night from its very first record at MCA and he continued producing for us right on through to our new album, that is just about to be released. Despite his low-key demeanor, Richie was a powerhouse; beginning in the 1960’s he worked as a producer, engineer, musician, composer and arranger for countless artists including the Monkees, the Turtles, the Electric Prunes, the Grateful Dead, Donovan, the Dillards, Chris Hillman, and Black Oak Arkansas, as well as Steppenwolf for whom Richie engineered their huge hits “Born to be Wild” and “Magic Carpet Ride”. Scores of artists, songwriters, producers and engineers have been impacted by Richie’s ideas and techniques. He was a great musician and a dear friend. Richie Podolor will be missed even as his talent still rests in the music and musicians that he touched......please react to the audio version "Woman" by Three Dog Night from their "It Ain't Easy" album.
I'm sorry you lost your friend. Thank you for telling us about him. He has my gratitude for moving & shaking in the music scene that has always given me such pleasure.
Another one of the songs I LOVE. You will play this in your head all the time. It just sticks. I love the line about "free milk and a cow". My Mama said "why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free". Lol
I was born and raised in a small south Georgia town, and I recall back in my younger days we used to gather up down at the river on Friday nights, back the pick-up trucks in a circle, drop the tailgates, get a campfire going, open up the beer coolers, and dance around in the sand with this song blasting on the stereo! Those were great times! Great memories!
Hey guys !!! Loving all your reactions ! Just had to comment so I could let Amber know how AMAZING her hair is looking, which you just have great hair to begin with !! I know you have your hands full with the girls & the baby, and then you show up smiling and ready to rock everyday....you rock !!!! You BOTH Rock !!!!!!
They are some great guys.. and big time Friday night high school football fanatics... they made a field for their local high school... and the game don't start until they arrive and throw the switch :P
Georgia born and raised and I looove this song. Another suggestion is Atlanta Rhythm Section: So into You, and Champagne Jam are two awesome songs by them. Southern Rock with a smooth vibe to it.
@@daveowens9849 Yet it's played on rock stations in U.S.... Right now. Did you look them up to see if there was anything else you could say to be contrary or to correct instead of joining the party, Sheldon? 🤨 I would have thought your XO might have endeavored to make an adjustment to that tendency. What's YOUR favorite band from Europe but not Great Britain? You know, K.I.A. also stands for Know It All. Go mail a bear.
Yes I have that video! He did this song and Billy Joel's You May Be Right as encores. He brought those songs to my attention and love them ever since. ❤️
Back in the day I bought the Garth Brooks Live in Concert Laser Disc. It has him doing his cover of this. He goes NUTZ doing this song. And he about brought the house down!!! It was FANTASTIC!!! Still plays to this day.
While you were talking about CCR being more serious I realized you haven't reacted to "Looking Out My Backdoor" !! They have a fun side too and this is great!
Yes, yes, YES to this recommendation!!! Looking out my back door by CCR came out when I was about 7 or 8 yrs. old and I remember singing along with the radio at the top of my lungs every time it came on. Your girls will LOVE it!
This one totally gets stuck in your head. On constant replay. 🤣 You should try “Peaches”by The Presidents of the United States of America. Or “Cotton Eye Joe” by Rednex.💕
My gods I love this song! Simple rock/blues that sounds as good now as it did when it was new. And written in 15 minutes on a bus ride home! Still got my copy of the album on vinyl...
I loved this band so much! They came out at a time when radio-friendly rock was becoming very slick and polished, with less grit, and lots of synthesizers, and I found this band to be a gritty, down-home, breath of fresh air! For another cool song by them, I recommend "Battleship Chains," which was popular on rock radio stations where I lived in the deep South in the '80s.
OMG This song. One of the great southern-rock songs of the 80s. The Satellites' fame didn't last much past the 80s, but this song is a classic in any decade. They also had a great song off the same album called "Battleship Chains". The lead singer, Dan Baird, also had a successful solo career.
I first saw these guys on my eighteenth birthday in the student cafeteria at then West Georgia College now University. They played with Rick Fowler and whatever band he had there that night. I remember them saying they drove down from north Georgia and played for fifty dollars and a case of beer. That was in 1986. Two years later I saw them open for Lynyrd Skynyrd at old Atlanta Fulton co. Stadium.
Next you should do "Smokin' In The Boys Room", Brownsville Station, another one of my favourites! EDIT: Reggie Bixler, Rod Nixon, you've both hit the nail *right* on the head. I was hoping somebody would say that. This, as far as I'm concerned, _is_ the true OG. No one can *touch* the original. And I was born in the 80's.
@@jasonjennings9087Maybe to the 80s kids, but our version was plenty famous, and not just on the radio. It was a staple for bar bands and garage bands.
I owned a honky tonk in the early 2000's and this was always the last song before closing...turned up to max volume on a great sound system through out the hall/bar...EPIC!
Great song. Southern rock next up votes for more Skynyrd (That Smell, Call Me The Breeze), Charlie Daniels (THe South's Gonna Do It Again), Marshall Tucker (Heard it in a Love Song)
was juss a good ole party song; my wife booked a bunch of older groups at a big music event a few years back and Georgia Satellites STOLE THE SHOW, bigtime!!
This is ideal for long drives, you can't fall asleep at the wheel with this playing! Not only that, but in these modern days, the phone can wait while I party down the highway. A lot of southern rock does the job as well.
This always brings a smile to my face. It was the last song I heard on the radio in my recruiter's car as I got to the airport leaving for boot camp. Recruiter said that's some sound advice 🤣 that was 36 years ago now.
Can we just appreciate the simplicity of these old music videos? "What do you wanna do for the video? Eh, let's just hope in the back of a pickup and drive around"
Dan Baird is such a funny dude. I have had the chance to hang with him several times and he is such a down to earth guy and absolutely hilarious sense of humor as well.
Please do Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1976 at Knebworth, either "Call Me the Breeze" or "T for Texas". Both give you a look at them live at their peak! Better than "Free Bird"
Ohhh I have to agree to disagree with you about Free Bird .. man that's one of the best Rock N Roll live recordings ever .. of course that's my opinion. But LS also has many other great tracks like "Simple Man", "That Smell" or "Sweet Home Alabama" to name a few. Hopefully Amber & Jay will get back to them soon.
So is Swamp Music! But Call Me The Breeze is on my 8 hour “drive across Texas” playlist. Just don’t jam to it going thru a heavy speed trap area. It’ll get you flyin! 🤣
@music-two-my-ears I had an uncle who was a massive fan. Between my parents and him, my childhood soundtrack covers 40s- 90s country, 50's-70s rock and motown with BB King and a few other blues greats mixed in, to 70's and 80's southern Rock, Hair Bands, and early mainstream hip hop and rap. lol, my mix tapes/CDs would have Sir mix-a-lot, 2short,Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hank Jr, Hank Sr, Big Bopper and Little Richard.
Yep! Kick it up! You guys are crackin' me up! Well, guess there was some huggy and kissy. Fun stuff. Thanks for the reaction. Have you hear the band Wet Willie? Might want to check them out.
Agree with Dwight! Esecially after seeing how much they like this song... They should do one of Dwight's more rock-edged songs, maybe start with Fast as You.
..."Class of 76"...believe it or not a local country band here is the Ozark Mtns of Arkansas used to play this song at their dances and everyone two stepped to it every Saturday nite....the band here had a banjo and fiddle in addition to the electric guitar...note, did you see the old lady walking past the band with her hands over her ears...lol
I can hear tall saying this to EVERY boy that shows up at your front door. With cuties like you have, this should be on regular rotation in your rides.
YES!! I was waiting for you guys to react to the Satellites, that was one of my requests I sent you! 🤘 EDIT: You should try "Battleship Chains". As well as others from their first two albums ("Railroad Steel", "The Myth Of Love", "Can't Stand The Pain", "Nights Of Mystery", "My Baby", "Mon Cheri", "Dunk N Dine" etc., LOTS to like)!
Such a fun song. Unfortunately ,they were pretty much an 80's one hit wonder. They had a couple other songs that made the charts, but not very high. And, yes, they are from Atlanta,Georgia
"Battleship Chains" got *a lot* of airplay on rock radio where I lived at the time. It wasn't a major chart hit like this song, but Southern rock fans (and some headbangers too) loved it in the deep South in the '80s! :-)
"Battleship Chains", yes, great song. Also the Satellites cover of "Hippy Hippy Shake" from the movie _Cocktail_ was a moderate hit. But I wasn't as keen on that one to be honest.
@@GatorScribe726 Thanks for the tip! I don't think that I ever heard that album back in the day, but I'm going to look for it. Some of my favorite albums by bands that I love have turned out to be the lesser-known ones.
Saw these guys while on spring break in Daytona, like maybe 1985. I went to a university in Florida so it was awesome all the time! Loved these boyz! So fun, so raunchy!!!
a song from the soundtrack of my life in the 80's - loved dancing to this so much!!!! LOVE THIS BAND & SONG!!!!! This was decades before Beyonce said "put a ring on it"
Yes this is definitely one of those songs that you hear in your head for hours after you hear it. Also J, AMBER, please check out “RIDE ON” by ACDC!! Awesome guitar solo by Angus, and this was a awesome Bonn Scott blues song💥YOU WILL LOVE IT. #AMBERSWAY
Ride On is probably my favorite song by them. I drive a truck, so my favorite part has always been when he says "looking for a truck" lol. I've always thought you could take this song two different ways. Just mellow and cruising, or let it DRIVE you.
“Put Another Log on the Fire, (and tell me why your leaving me.)” by Tompall Glaser would be another fun song to listen and react too. By the way, this was a GREAT reaction guys.
Have you guys reacted to Ram Jam's Black Betty? If not, y'all should definitely add it to your list. It's a cover, but it's a good one. The video might as well be the poster child for Southern Rock bands.
