This episode started out as a VLOG and then turned into a specific vid on wheel wobble. We’ll tackle the other subjects I mention another time.
Where starting to get some Y62 customers come in with wobble issues so Steve and I thought we would take you through the process on how we diagnose and fix the issue.
If you have these issues, here’s some things to consider

As much as Steve doesn’t really love being in front of the camera, he’s so bloody good at explaining his train of thought, and you do alright too Dave 👍😂

Fun fact about Maxxis, they also make mountain bike tyres and some of them suffer from a bit of a wobble as well.

Been running Yokkies for the past 2 1/2 years G003s 35s x 18” and a set of G005s 35s x 20”. Can’t fault them I’ve had suspension teething issues running the 3” now and have had HBMC tweaked and it’s handling well on road but more importantly over washouts Offroad etc haven’t blown a strut yet. Definitely all things you’ve mentioned and wheel alignment/ tyres are a must

Hi Dave I know you are very busy these days but I was wondering if you could find the time (because it’s amazing to see the creations that you come up with) to invent a radiator bug Gard for a 2022 TI-L as in the west we get most years plagues of locus and butterflies. Interesting run through and facts. Thanks, some good food for thought. So do rear in-coil airbags cause problems trying to achieve correct rear alignment figures?? Is it better to select correct (as far as possible) spring rate as compared to compensating loads using airbags?? Thanks.
@DASHOffRoad
@DASHOffRoad 2 года назад
Springs are for weight that is bolted to the car, airbags are for weight that is added to the car but not bolted, ie, tow ball mass
@shanenorwell8580
@shanenorwell8580 2 года назад
Good video as always Dave. Just on the airbags, if people are running higher pressure for everyday driving I’d suggest the spring rate is wrong in the first place. The bags should ideally be used for the varying loads.

There’s got to be more to the wobble issue. My series 1 was horrible with 305/70r18 Mickey Thompson ATZ’s on American Racing ATX rims +18 offset. Car was lifted with an early Ontrack lift, not sure of the spring rate. When I put the right boot in, it twerked down the road and scared the shit out of everyone inside. Ran standard rubber and 275/70 Yokohama GO15’s in factory rims. No problems ever. Would like to have known what HBMC pressure it was running. If the new one does it, I’d consider swapping the rim and tyre combination to try and nut it out. Plan for the series 5 is 295/70r18 Yokohama GO16’s on factory rims and 295/70r18 Dick Cepek Extreme County’s on some +18 rims like Dirty Life Theory’s or KMC Mesa. Keep up the great work on the Y62’s Dave and Steve👍🏻

I ran Mickeys in my S1 and found the wobble came after about 20k on them. Have swapped to BFG’s now? So far so good 🤷‍♂️

It can be different for different cars, but I usually do about 40ish front and a tad more in the rear as a starting point and then watch TPMS. If it goes up by 4PSI after an hour drive you are in the money

Good details in this one mate, how does the stl set up compared to the hpmc? The tred 62 changed his around so wonder if it’s a factor in it??? I’m running 305/55/20’s nitto’s an noticed my drivers front bald on the inside, very strange. ODIN62 🤘🏽

Personally id never rip the hbmc out, it’s a fantastic system that can do almost everything. If I wanted a comp truck feel, and never wanted to tow, then maybe a fox shock or something. Sounds like your car has an alignment issue, more investigation required

Just had a lca lift installed on our 62 and it is chewing out the back tyres when i picked it up it looked like the rear end had +camber also a fair amount of toe in to boot done 2000ks now and my suspicions were right so off to the workshop that fitted it to sort it out wish me luck i also looked at all the adjustment bolts positions and they aren't the same on both sides im no mechanic but im disappointed i have to chase this shit up.great vid dave thanks.

Dave it's not fair to suggest the tyres are stuffed or inadequate when the geometry of the suspension is the root of the problem. Put said stuffed tyres onto a non y62 and they will behave normal. Yes certain tyres react worse on the IRS but it's not the tyres fault the IRS is steering the rear of the vehicle. Now that you have the bellow air bags pump one side up and dump the other and vice versa and watch how the IRS is steering the rear of the vehicle. This is not the tyres fault as tyres are not really designed with this specific isolated problem in mind, most of these tires are designed for live axle vehicles. Perhaps it would be better to clarify that certain tires have characteristics that do not suit the IRS of the Y62 as it is the root of the problem not the tyres. Keep up the good work.

I just got a brand new set of 295/65r20s on my y62. They are noisy, alot noisier than I was hoping. I have run many a muddy, even in 37s and these make that awful reeeew reeew reeew sound you'd expect from 30,000k old muddies. And now dealing with a decent vibration at 80-100

Great informative video, in your research on tyres does it matter the PLY of the tyre make a difference? Also some tyres are Kevlar walls which make them stiffer. Hopefully they bring the Navara out with petrol V6. Have you thought of doing the engine V6 swap on Navara and how’s the V8 swap update?

Thanks for the bud guys. I did comment on last weeks vid I am eager to see this. I have 295/70/18 Nitto All terrains, control arm lift, blown and no bar work and when I’m giving it the berries it is a bit wobbly. Have you guys gone back to standard suspension with the same rims and tyres to see if it is only the lifted cars giving the grief?

We haven’t had a standard height car come in with wobble complaints yet, however we have had standard height cars come in that are blown with wheel alignment issues as the blower weighs 48kg and sometimes the front springs need to be changed to fix it

Time to pull your head out of your arse Shaun and discover you are actually living in the 21st century. Oh! and it's probably time to flick the B&W TV and get a colour one. It might take you a while to get used to it but you'll be amazed how much better they are. Don't rush into it, only watch 3 or 4 minutes a day at the start and slowly increase from there, eventually you will realise what you have been missing out on.
