protagonist killing her father: "aw big sad" protagonist killing her potential love interest who's the son of a dictator/a weirdo who's into boats: "B-BUT HOW CAN I, JUST LOOK AT HIM"
"YA protagonists who suck at assassinations, weird fake feminism" This does not narrow anything down- Now what, you're gonna tell me she let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding?
being an assassin in a ya-novel is so lucrative, you don’t even have to be good at your job and you get at least two love interests along with your paycheck
the plot for a special place for woman sounds like if white teens from twitter and tiktok decided to write a book lol specially with the witchy/astrology stuff.
@Clara ok but. I've never once met a taurus I didn't like so I have no idea what she was on about lmao. Imo astrology is fun unless you let it dictate your relationships and make u feel justified in being rude as hell 😬
@@debbystragier2154 astrology is not the issue. the issue is getting into anything so much that you let it take over your life. i hate the fact that tiktok astrology people have made everyone look down so much on something that is a fun, healthy and interesting thing for many others to enjoy.
y/a books that have any sort of crown on the cover are immediately a red flag in my mind bc they always end up having the same sort of plot just in different fonts 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️
fr fr its always a crown, rose, dagger/sword/pointy stab stab, a snake, thorns, aesthetically pleasing *blood* it used to be the pretty skinny white girls who had really long brown or red hair hiding their face and/or drowning in a huge ballgown with the occasional junkyard of flowers on the cover and if its not fantasy its coloured silhouette people or shape blockey people (these are always romance books in a realistic fiction type setting)
The amount of people who disrespected cindy when she told us to unsubscribe and do something better with our lives but are still here without one breath of hesitation is just........❤️😂🙌
As an asexual, I always laugh if the whole plan is just seducing. Also, "on one hand you have a colonizer on other hand you have a guy named blazer" cracked me up🤡
I would be so creeped out by most of the stuff the assansain will do to let their targets gaurd down. Like, I would get a restraining order- maybe that could be an interesting rom-com plot.
I wish there was a protagonist that was doing seduce and destroy thing only to find out their target saying mam/sir please stay away from me, it's like kissing a wall
Who sends death threats over a person having an opinion about a fictional character in a book written by someone else? What are they going to do if someone doesn't like their cooking, poison the local drinking water and kill the town? What happens if they become a writer and someone *(gasp)* doesn't give them a good review? Are they going to transform into Lauren Hough and hunt down their reviewers in a pumpkin carriage before the stroke of midnight?
That part as a writer and reader I don’t get the hype around Game of Thrones Books they are a 2 star at best but you have those over hyped fans that are plain annoying like this book isn’t even good
the girl from “ash princess” should’ve broken the colonizer’s arm because if you’re not going to kill him, might as well let him give you a job so you can have some sense of agency
Random oponion: fandoms are sometimes so shitty that is almost unbelievable how they take away one person's will yo read the book or watch an anime. It is honestly so tiring and hard to find a chill fandom. Hope you're okay, love ya
Cindy: reads 800 pages of fairy smut and makes a 2 hour rant review about it, even making soap in the shape of a fairy dingdong Also Cindy: I don't put any effort into this channel
The “If the shoe fits” book is kinda ironic in a way. You got the book, didn’t think of reading and now you’re passing it on. You found out “the shoe” didn’t fit for you, and now it’s being passed on to the next person.
but the title is SO TRUE I feel like most books always TRY and kill off their characters but fail since they need to stay alive for the sake of the plot.
@@ev7785 While they aren't my favorites of hers they were definitely much better covers than the majority of popular books that had been coming out at the time. When SoC abd Ck came out I was intrigued by those more than any others I saw tbh and thats more than I can say for all the books that were coming out with almost copy and pasted covers that made me immediately avoid the book edit: sorry if this paragraph is hard to comprehend I just took nausea meds and I can't think straight
Rule of Wolves is like the Grishaverse equivalent of Avengers: Endgame, we just see what every character in that universe is doing even if it doesn’t matter to the plot
Can you imagine being an unemployed assassin in these YA worlds unable to find work, and hearing again and again that amateurs keep getting hired despite being terrible at their one job 😅 You get what you pay for 🤷
Honestly, Rule of Wolves felt a lot like a fanfiction. A good fanfiction, but a there were soamy cameos crammed into this and unnecessary fanservice. I liked it, but i had higher hopes.
@@juliacorreal I had high hopes after six of crows duology. In king of scars I didn't mind it too much, but I felt like it got out of hand in rule of wolves. I still enjoyed it and it wasn't bad, but still a bit of a letdown 🤷
@@freds2699 I agree wholeheartedly, though there were still some parts of KoS I didnt like too. I cant make sense of the Saints appearing until now, it was so uncalled and unexplained???? "The creation at the heart of the world does everything and everything is possible even becoming animals" wow cool I wish the author hadnt established the contrary up until now?
the camera quality getting shittier and shittier is an allegory about book twitter that no matter how good they are at reading it doesn’t mean they’re gonna get smarter
I think people approach the rating system on goodreads too much like product reviews, where anything less than 4-5 means something is trash. That and people tend to lean towards extremes, it's either 5 or 1 star. I really appreciate how you actually use the scale like it was intended to be used cuz yea, something can be average and mediocre and that's okay. It's still got value.
I blame how schools grade. You know, how 100-90% is best, 89-80 is acceptable, 79-70 is concerning, and anything at or below 69% is failure or borderline failure. It makes sense when grading understanding of a subject, but since it's the most prolific type of attitude for rating things it bleeds into other styles
I have a genuine question about YA novels that start with murder, assassinations, wars and things like that... I don't know if this authors have heard of a demographic called *New adults*, cause... YA is for FREAKING 13 YEAR OLDS, YOU KNOW THE AMOUNT OF EDGYS YOU'RE CREATING, LAURA?
Right! They always forget about that. Most YA books are made for people on the older edge of teenager-ness. There needs to be a better middle ground for sure.
i have a feeling that cindy’s memoir alone would be super exciting, but if she narrated an audiobook for it too??? (cough, cough, hint, hint readwithcindy 500-500)
Throne of Glass lead: 'I'm a cold-blooded killer, I can kill everyone in this table right no- Is that candy that was placed suspiciously in my room while I'm in the middle of a mystery where other people are dying?! *nom* *nom*
The lost potential of a secret feminist witch club makes me sad, like why didn't she just write the whole book about that instead of "white feminism is bad? Who knows 😉" You either commit to the witches or you don't involve them at all!
I totally agree about Nikolai being the side character in his OWN book, I didn’t mind reading Nina BUT THE DARKLING? It would’ve been better to see more of Nikolai and Zoya😭
Why commit murder when you can instead procrastinate all day until Cindy uploads to talk about murder? Big brain. These YA Protagonists got nothing on me.
Yess, that's why I love her. Not some fking Celaena Sardothien whose beauty sleep is more important than surviving a tournament where you can fucking die or devouring goddamn candy someone left on her bed without stopping to think if it's poisoned or not when there's a REAL assassin walking around the castle and butchering everyone. Like seriously? Even a child has more sense than that. I am not even an trained assassin (ngl kinda wish to), but I wouldn't have any problem killing someone if it meant I would live. Also if we're talking about TOG, why tf would you wish for everyone to know you're the greatest assassin in all of Erilea (or whatever that world is called) while competing in a tournament with like 23 other assasins/thieves (a bunch of weaklings tbh;one of them couldn't even use a bow? Tf are you even doing in this tournament dude?). Isn't it better to remain unnoticed by others and NOT become the target of killing???? And all just because you feel petty. Pleeeeease.
Cindy, I'm so sorry people in the Six of Crows fandom are sending you death threats, I will never understand why some people behave so horribly. I hope you're doing well ❤️
Cindy should review Wattpad original novels again, such as Your Best American Girl by whereagardenwas; Loving Lakyn by sharnahespinosa; Yours, Forever by insouciancy; Found by moonpilots, to just name a few.
I agree in KoS honestly. It claims that it's his book but he's like just another prospective:/ he's not a main focus at all in his own books which is ridiculous.
@@aimun5255 I wouldn't say he became less interesting, it's just she focused in everything that's not intresting about him which actually amazing in its own way lol.
Oh Cindy, I'm so sorry about all those people who sent you those death threats (not only because you already died reading SJM). They are fictional characters, not real people. And even if they were real people, you have all the right in the world to have your opinion about them and not like them. I feel so sorry about it. I hope you get some good energy and maybe you should watch some Uncle Iroh scenes, he is the best person to give you good advice and make you feel better about yourself. I wish you a very good jasmine tea.
@@belovednighteyes Throne of Glass (like all the books) The Queens Assassin Red Queen The wrath and the dawn Mortal instruments Shadow and bone Three Dark Crowns Renegades The winners curse
When I read Ash Princess I only kept reading bc it had a non white protagonist but that whole series was a disappointment. She ends up with the colonizer prince and she was always so reluctant to let him face consequences for how he participated in the oppression of the native people. I still have the books but I regret buying and reading them.
Lol they were SURPRISED you gave rule of wolves 3 stars? It is SUCH a 3 star book esp since it's rickety foundation is based on shadow and bone while trying to achieve a much more complex and divided plotlines than even six of crows
@@juliacorreal Right? It was trying toooo much, it was kinda fun ngl at parts but it's clearly just an attempt to squeeze out more money while the hype is alive which I respect tbh but lol it's NOT the masterpiece some bardugo stans think it is
@@aimun5255 I agree, there were some very fun parts, but there was soooo much attempt at showing how hopeless their situation was and how smart Nikolai & gang was that I was just exhausted by the time I finished it. Also I hated the rhythm. It was all over the place due to the multiple characters in different places. Something super cool would happen with Nikolai or Zoya and the next chapter would be Nina wandering around. I almost hurled my kindle across the room so many times!
I think people get pissy about your review because they are so insecure about their own taste they subconsciously feel like your opinion is the final decision on the book's objective quality and if they liked the book then that just means they have bad taste. So in their mind, it's a personal attack against them.
First more of the acotar series now talking about coward ya protagonists who can't kill people makes me wonder even more what she'd think of the folk of the air trilogy by holly black
@@withcindy Yeah..... I dunno if I want her to read it or not :/ It's kinda existing in a fun, shiny bubble in my mind, I don't want it to be popped by any inconsistencies my brain skipped over LOL
Just once, I would like a female MC in a YA novel to actually be competent instead of the author insisting that they're badass but 90% of the time they need to be rescued by whatever love interest is closest. Like I didn't fully like Children of Blood and Bone but at least the whole squad were equally good at their jobs.
@@carous7675 I mean to be fair, the book never said Zelie was good at making decisions, just that she was good at beating people up. The story starts with her kicking ass and being full of emotions so her shitty choices weren't exactly OOC. Just stupid.
Also I have to wholeheartedly agree with you. I'd rather read a book with new characters than a fanservice spinoff milking the hell out of old favourite characters without actually furthering their story substantially or meaningfully.
yea i get leigh bardugo will profit a lot from continuously writing more books in the grisha world but she could totally just start new series with new characters!! that would be way more fun
i know its a cinderella remake and thats why "ash princess" is like a shameful name or whatever, but hearing that name i would assume its something the common folk would call their rebellion leader. Like ash bc her shit got burnt down and princess bc shes the real princess. like how katniss was called mockingbird. idk that just seems better than the person who took away her title making her have that exact same title still but in a "shameful" way. it doesn't make sense to me
I always interpret a three-star rating from you as you saying: "Hey, I personally didn't love the book, it's okay, and that's fine. But I can understand and see why some people may like, or even enjoy, it."
She was going to kill Nikolai in Seige and Storm but kept him because fans like him. Fans were begging for a Nikolai series so she knew it was gonna get the money 💰 Good for her you know, get that money but she defo didn't NEED to write it. It ruined the series for me.
@@nataliafigueredo7126 I didn't really mind Rule of Wolves. The only major issue I had was the return of a certain character since he didn't actually do anything to serve the plot and what happened to him at the end of the book felt a little rushed and out of character for him.
I know Cindy said she wouldn’t do book reviews because people are looking for positive things only but I would sell my soul for the chance to have Cindy as a Beta Reader just so she can tear me apart
If you’re still doing Netflix shows PLEEEEASE react to ”Young Royals”, it’s the best queer tv show I’ve ever seen, honestly, and I think it’s exactly the kinda sappy romantic, semi tragic shit you would enjoy, with amazing character chemistry and acting, awesome representation, and also realistic teenagers with acne for once thank god! Not to mention its a swedish show, makes me proud as a swede :> But honestly, its something special
Please can you spoil me and tell me if there’s a tragic ending or not? I really want to watch it but I can’t deal w any more gay couples having tragic endings :(
@@solkai7575 it's a bittersweet ending that made a lot of people cry, the gays definitely suffered but neither of them died or anything. The story isn't finished yet either, so we might be getting a season 2 with a happier ending!
@@solkai7575 nah I wouldn’t exactly call it a tragic ending, but I mean, it doesn’t have an ending yet, so things are unresolved. The story is clearly meant to continue in season 2
i feel like Leigh Bardugo is such a hit or miss author. sometimes i absolutely love the books (eg SoC and CK) but then i feel indifferent about others like KoS and RoW
I feel absolutely the same as you, and the fandom doesn't accept that rules of wolves isn't as good as the last duology. I think it's the moment to get a move on of Leigh Bardugo
i respect SJM's incredible success but i have no compulsion to actually read her books bc im certain that consuming them second-hand through your videos is waaaaay more entertaining lol
I was gonna comment something about Eve brown and hitting on him both physically and figuratively. But then my mind was overthinking how to word it, and here we are in another mind process where I'm debating if I should be happy when someone hits me (if I was in the guy's situation) or if I should be crying about insurances...
cindy i just saw on goodreads that there are supposed to be 2 more books in the acotar series, although i haven't read them, im so excited for them to come out, so that you can later read them and hilariously rant
Why in the hell are you guys reading that series? Lol One book was more than enough (X__x) Or is it fun just to hate on it? Lol I genuinely wanna know!
Nikolai's chapters: Today I accidentally flew into some bombs and almost died oops😜 I'm so silly *ENDS ON HUGE CLIFF HANGER* Nina's chapters: Hanne is rly pretty❤️❤️❤️ I love the way her hair flows in the wind❤️❤️❤️. I'd be lying if I said I didn't love the fan service tbh
I am autistic and finally seeing books with people that are like me make me so happy. We still have a long way to go because I can barley find any but this is a great start. :-)
Ash Princess gives me war flashbacks to suffering throughout the whole Red Queen series because of how fucking boring and bland Cal and Mare are, oh gosh
Tangentially related, but there's a Hindi song from an early 2000s Bollywood movie called "It's the Time to Disco" and your comment reminded me of that and brought back memories. Thanks for that, lol :-D
