Yacht Series released on a Tuesday and Thursday (unless something goes horribly wrong)
---
Hey everyone.
Welcome back to the yacht series. We had a pretty epic day out heading to Hvar. Smooth sailing and epic views. Unfortunately the day ended with a guest complaint.
I highly doubt I gave enough context to the whole story but I just wanted you to understand that these days do happen.
Thank you for watching legends. Every single one of you reading this have made my year.
Much Love!

listen... that works on restaurant waiters, not on qualified servants. if a person has it in them to actually soil the food, because someone done something that they do not like, than that person has no place being in such a high standard location. and has no place being around me as a friend either. they are disgusting people. also, you should keep this in mind as well : don't piss off people that can afford to spend 800 k dollars for a 2 week vacation. it might end up very, very badly for you and anyone around you.

I have been chartering yachts for many years now. I started when my 3 children were very young and now they are grown with kids of their own my wife and I charter with just us two most the time. We do two trips a year Spring time and again each far and we have also done some last minutes trips. Every time, I mean EVERY single time we have had nothing what do ever to be wrong with our boat. NEVER! Nothing, they are always so spotless and looks as if we were the first humans that stepped foot in the boat. The food? OMG! I can't say enough, the crew was always so nice, kind and spoiled us to no end. Not even one of the children ever had a complaint one while on the boats. Anyone with children knows that is impossible. The crew always worked their fingers to the bone making it that way too and we knew that and respected that. We made our children say good morning to everyone of the crew, thank you and please. We fell in love with everyone of the crew we ever had. So how anyone could be nasty to the crew is beyond me. The boat being dirty?? I have very hard time believing that in the least bit. There are some people so ungrateful and so miserable in life they will always find something to complain about. I am so grateful to get on the boats and hear those motors start up and leave the world behind for a week that I didn't notice if anything was wrong or not.

My experience with a grumpy customer was in 1985. A retired QANTAS pilot was always a pig when wanting to withdraw money from his cheque (check) account. He would not join the tellers' queue but phoned beforehand to have him and his wife taken into my office. He insisted on being called "Captain". One day I was under the pump and when he was leaving, I saluted him. The dumb #$%^er thought it respectful and saluted back. The staff saw it and it was laughed about for days.

Oh gosh. Anyone that owns a boat, in my case only a 23-1/2 foot small cuddy cabin model, knows that their boat can be incredibly clean in the evening and by morning all parts of the exterior covered in bugs stuck to everything. Especially anywhere with humidity as at dew point in the cool eve the bugs land, stick, by morning the dew dries and caked on, stuck on bugs everywhere! On active boating days I spend at least two hours cleaning bugs alone. I’m sure you have a small crew responsible for a heck of a lot more square footage than me. I imagine a very hard work day crewing as you do.

lamakicker69 : Nah, they complain just to try and prove that they are “better” than you. They were probably pissed off because a bigger boat turned up. Believe me. Molt De Renou once again these people are paying hundreds of thousands of dollars A WEEK for a vacation. When you pay that kind of money you have every right to expect things to be nearly perfect. The reason no one goes to the foretop is because no one is supposed to go there. Ok ask me why. The radio antennas and the radar give off radiation. How long have you been a crew member? The only time you should visit that area is when everything is shut off for maintenance. If you notice body parts turning green and falling off, you will know what caused it.

In boating this chrisis always happen (within a week). When the initial happines (due to a new experience, new place, beauty of nature, ...) starts to fade and gets balanced (like everything in life needs to balance) with negativity you get such days. Very often there is also heavy drinking involved as well, so the landing is even rougher. I've had the experience and I'm never going on a boat whith anybody else but my wife and my children if it's more than a daytrip.

I worked as a safari guide / driver in Africa for many years so I know exactly what you are talking about. No matter what they pay , cheap trip or luxury safari some people (not all) will find something to bitch about. I think that the more expensive and comfortable a trip is the more trivial whines you will get. I took many rough basic camping trips where the conditions became apalling with rain , duststorms , stuck in mud mechanical breakdowns etc. and they loved the experience. So for every one of those punters I once again ( very humbly) say thank you.

Do you rinse the tender with fresh water before you close the garage?

Love watching your videos. One question: how many crew are on board this boat and what roles?

I think it can depend on the number of guests. Let's say a family of 2 adults and 2 kids book a vacation. There would probably be a captain, a first mate (basically a co-pilot), a cook, a stewardess and a mechanic. That last crew member is vital. If you book a cruise and there is no mechanic on board, what happens when the ship blows an engine? Most ships of this size need two HUGE engines to generate enough power so they can actually get somewhere. Of course, double the engines can mean double the risk of problems. If they say "We just contact the coast guard for help," I'd be worried. You won't know how long it'll take for them to show up and tow the yacht to the nearest port. I would only book cruises with small charters if the mechanic lives on board during the entire cruise. Better to have one and see him/her bored than to be stuck in choppy seas 20 miles from port with a busted engine. And this guy's yacht AND another one I follow (Super Yacht Captain) have had engine breakdowns. It goes with being in the business of pleasure cruising. The question is: "how well prepared is the business owner?" If the owner thinks mechanics are "a phone call away," run run run for the hills. That owner is insane to think the problem can be fixed instantly. I learned a little from having a great-uncle who owns a 90-ft yacht.

Does the owner get more crew on board during the summer months? Or is it generally the same 4-5 people?

Actually these days come to everyone no matter where you work. The important thing as Captain is as long as you are satisfied the crew did their job and the crew know you have their back then all is good.
