Ending their show in United Center, Chicago on a religious note.. Yahweh is obvious (another name for 'God')... 40 is their interpretation of Psalm 40, with Adam and Edge switching instruments as you can see.
I love this video but pray whoever chose to monetize it by placing an ad in the middle needs to reconsider it. It's like interrupting a prayer with an ad for laundry detergent. Please remove it--it's the right thing to do.
better buy the official video then. It's a youtube thing, it can't be removed, I guess U2 receives a small amount of money for it. Uploader doesn't get money.
@@Ricku2 I actually have it on DVD, but this version is more convenient. RU-vid is really awful to do that in the MIDDLE of a video, and especially this one. Thanks for letting me know.
I love that Bono is a believer and makes no attempts to hide it. He was a believer long before I was, and I love that his music is his ministry. I love that God called to me through this an many other songs..and wouldn't give up until he had me.
Every show I saw on this tour, you could feel the atmosphere change (the presence of the Spirit) when they would do this song. Even non-believers felt “something” was palpable as entire arenas were singing Psalms 40.
MY LETTER TO U2-1987 I saw you guys on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 at MTSU-Middle Tennessee State University Saturday November 28th 1987. The Bodeans opened up for you. I remember at the time Larry had a crush on Wynonna Judd and she came out and sang a duo with Bono! I didn't have tickets to the show. A friend of mine drove us 3 hours from East Tennessee to see the show. We bought tickets at the box office for $18.50. We ended up 8th row center stage! I remember back then the band held back tickets for fans who were willing to make the drive and couldn't get tickets via phone or record store locations. Thanks again to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr for making a special album and tour! I was 18 and had just graduated High School that year! All the Best! Gary Lagstrom
I have known 40 for thirty+ years. Only 12 years ago did I understand. Thank you U2 for calling out to me before I understood. Psalm 40:1-3. Humbled in my ignorance.
Same with me.... I never liked worldly music but declared this song over my life for years before I understood I was declaring the very scripture psalm 40.
We (Reminiscing) remember them in Hartford, playing this at the finale; We were confused as to who, how and what was going on with the transference between Evans and Clayton. Spectacular!
Even people with strong faith experience distress, grief, and pain. Jesus himself did and cried tears over such - this and more. The key is to be Christ-like and as Jah Himself has also set the example of being - empathetic and consoling; along with speaking of the true, Scriptural hope from Jehovah [Yahweh], of the resurrection of loved ones, mostly back to here (after Armageddon), onto this earth restored/being restored as a paradise. (Psalm 37:10,11, 29) Then, it will come to be that no one will be sick anymore. Better times are ahead. That is true. (Revelation 21:3-5; Isaiah 33:24)
These four men have been kept together as a band of musicians and friends for 40 years with no one leaving or being replaced and are still going strong with sell out concerts in 2017.My answer to this
Can you imagine the excitement of being there that night... singing *40* to the band... what an amazing night that must have been. Very lucky, any who were there!
Jeroen Brinkman God is just like a Dad. Except He's #1. Is the Source, Hope, an alternative to the norm. Has to be...otherwise there is nothing brother and that is not the case. HE'S REAL like the hand in front of you. Just ask for more faith and always pray without ceasing.
Listening to this as it’s my last day of high school. Shared so much bonds around U2s music with teachers and classmates. Never will be a better song to capture emotion like Yahweh/40 back to back
I remember seeing U2 in 1983 at the Aragon like it was yesterday- they ended the show with the same Psalm 40, and can hear everyone singing, "How long, to sing this song"
I waited patiently for the Lord And He inclined to me and heard my cry He brought me up out of the pit of destruction Out of the miry clay And He set my feet upon a rock, making my footsteps firm He put a new song in my mouth A song of praise to our God Many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord
+Monika Cutz A Pretty woman who loves the LORD, Awesomeness! I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done. I will sing with joy because of you. I will sing praise to you, Almighty God. Psalm 9:1-2
+Jack Bailey Every one that loves The Lord is beautiful. For Beauty comes from within and it manifest's itself. So even if you may think your'e ugly, your'e not. People will see The Beauty of The Lord inside of you when they look at you with their hearts not their carnal eyes. G-d Bless!
@Kyle O'Bryan What is your synopsis? Please explain... There is so much of everything at this moment... too many words... too many priests, religions, please tell me? Unless you are not an atheist, I would like you to explain, unless you believe in some sort of cult where money is the prospect otherwise you take a pill....
You will never ever see any band larger and more popular than life itself than this! It just wont happen anymore. Not on this planet anyways. No one could top them. They are still strong after all these years and continuing to gain even more. They are U2.
+Rick Scicluna I'll admit it, I used to think Bono was absorbed too far up his own ass. I still sense a diva streak in him for sure, but there's real depth behind it.
toadofsteel Bono has acknowledged his own ego in interviews and in songs. He does poke fun at himself. While I disagree with him on certain things, like the tax thing, I gotta give a lot of credit to him for what he's done as a musician and a philanthropist.
"40" has long been one of my favorite U2 songs... Simply beautiful. Loved this live version along with an acoustic "Yahweh." Did I see Edge playing bass & Adam Clayton playing lead? Sure glad my son and I saw U2 live in Chicago in September 2009. What a show!
How can I ever explain my love of U2 to anyone? True Christians. With a platform to gently share something so important. I do shed tears of joy when I watch this. If you are watching this, please feel loved.
The best 11 minutes and 34 seconds that U2 will ever give you. 2 of my favorite songs from the band from Ireland. Make tomorow an amazing day for someone other than you. #whywait
How do you get this good? You practice for 30 years. How do you get this following? You stay together for 30 years. U2 is nothing short of the best band of our time. God Bless and thank you guys for all of it.
No - not so long as there is any blasphemy, or any promotion of anything counter to the scriptural words, will, and spirit of this only true God, the Creator Jehovah/Yahweh. Instead, what infiltrates is the spirit of the wicked one. (1John 5:19; Ephesians 2:2)
U2 ended the first 3 concerts of theirs I ever saw (83, 85 + 87) with 40, and every time, the crowd kept on singing "How long to sing this song" even as we poured out of the venue and into the streets/parking lot. If any other bands can get a crowd that into it, I've not seen 'em play a gig!
what wonderful two songs. Not much known by the noU2fans but two of the best ones. Amazing the acustic perfomance of "Yahweh" and magnificent ending with "40".
And he has his own, God-given names. This video is titled with the name of Jesus' God and Father; whose entirely different, distinct name, Jehovah [Yahweh], indicates HIM ALONE as the Most High, over all the earth - The Creator and the Universal Sovereign. Isaiah 42:8, Psalm 83:18; John chapter 17.
I don’t listen to contemp Christian. I listen to what I call sacred secular. I realize it could be sacrilege to some, but I dont care. Sacred secular moves me more
What a bunch of legends I really want to go to a live u2 concert no band could ever be as creative and have almost every song they make one of the best
Epic performance!!! Chicago, you should have kept going with 40 even after Larry left... Last concert I went to in NYC, we were going for at least 15 more minutes, while filing out of the venue...!
Saw joshua tree in 86 or 87. The same, everyone walked out singing. Got Amy grants autograph and some professional male models, cause we snuck onto the floor close to the stage. I was 15
RickU2, Thanks for posting this. This haunting, beautiful meaningful song is good. I also understand why some might think it simple or 'boring'. But from what I hear, it is difficult to write a song with only two chords without making it sound moronic. Well done U2.
Cool story behind why Adam and Edge swap instruments for this song. While the band was in the studio, Adam had already left but Bono, The Edge, and Larry wanted to write a good ending song for War so Edge decided to do both the bass and guitar parts of the song.
