Finally get to see/hear this particular Yak alone. Another vid shows this and a 3 bladed yak together which is an interesting compare, but this example has an interesting and unique sound all on its own. A P-39/63 (same engine/prop roughly) has the isolated reduction gearbox and a different ratio to the engine so it doesn't sound alike. But when the yak really winds up in the dive it nearly does sound like the Hispano Suiza V-12 in the MS. 406, which it originally had more or less a licenced copy of.
The Allison engine did sound very good, but the sound from the original Klimov 105 engine is a bit different, but none aircraft did now fly with the original Klimov because they are very rare and no parts available...Same thing with the Hispano Suiza Y12 (Dewoitine D520) who is the base engine from the klimov (USSR did buy the licence in France before the war), but one Morane D3800 (swiss made Morane 406, now under french colors) did fly with a Hispano Suiza Y12-77 (made under license by Saurer). The Y12 engine was nicknamed "moteur canon" (canon engine) because did integrate a 20mm Hispano Suiza 404 canon between the cylinders , firing through the propeller shaft was very reliable and accurate, but hold a only 60 shots magazine...The HS404 canon, modified to make it able to work in the wings, was use from many allied aircrafts...
Wow!! Beautiful plane, you can feel the power that it possesses! Thank you for such a great video presentation and a look back in time when we were all truly God’s children and we lived with truth and valor in our hearts.
Gorgeous airplane. Kind of a Russian P-51, you might say. There was one of these and a P-51 flying formation circuits at Seymour Johnson AFB a few years ago. Talk about music!
So richtig wollte er auch dieses Jahr nicht, schade. Interessant wäre mal zu wissen, warum sich diese Yak anders anhört als andere Yak3`s mit gleichem Motor. Super Video!
@@thelegendaryblackbeastofar39 No Russian V12s are flying at this time. There is a Yak-1 project for sale that includes a fresh Klimov V12 that is overhauled and ready when someone finished the build.
Trust me - as someone who lives right under the Canadian Warplane Heritage's flight-path - and has the Lancaster fly directly over as well as many other Merlin powered aircraft - THAT AINT NO MERLIN - ai's a liquid cooled 40's era supercharged 12 cylinder engine for gawds sake - they sound similar.
Looks like they took the front half of a P51 and stuck it onto a Spitfire tail with a bit of P40 thrown in for good measure.... oh and a lend lease Allison engine tossed in as well.
@@Warbirds. You are exactly right. The Allison engine out-performed any other engine in WWII. Used in the Spitfires and Mustangs. The Yak-3 version is certainly founded on the Spitfire platform, but without the wide elliptical wing of which doesn't make any sense to me under-performed. Also, they ran out of fuel much quicker than the Spitfires and Mustangs, even the Thunderbolts... What also amazes me is that the Russians decided to build their own variant rather than obtaining the new Spitfire MKIV's if I have that number right. Or maybe Britain didn't allow it. I don't know on the politics, just saying, the Yak 3 could have been even better. But, who cares, that was long ago anyway. LoL
@@BrokenandRestored Spitfires and Mustangs didn’t use Allison engines. Spitfires used Rolls Royce Merlins and Mustangs used Packard Merlins. Some early Mustangs used Allison engines but due to poor performance they moved to the Merlin. Allison engines were used in the P40, P38 and P39
If you guys want to see a 550 mph fly by ... the highly modified Mustangs, Strega,Dago Red, or VOODOO are the fastest piston engine airplanes in the world... but those speeds are possible only with million $$$ investments for 20 minutes of glory ... flown to the point of destruction... thats all they can take at 4800 hp..!,!😱🙄😳🤭
I do believe the radials dominated this year, 2 Pratt & Whitneys(R4360-Dreadnaught 1st, R2800 Argonaut 2nd) & a Centaurus, 924G, all in Sea Furies. Miss America, Mustang, was disqualified after ending up 2nd to Dreadnaught.
Yaks were built to have what I call "rough elegance". Maybe not the prettiest girl at the dance, but for certain she's the one you want on your wing when the sh*t starts to fly.
This is the 4-Blade Prop also found on the twin Mustang. The Allison V-1710 V12 engine produces approx. 1240hp. There is no YAK flying with the Klimow-WK-107A V12 having 1650 hp.
Allison Allison.

@@Warbirds Yeah. it does sound like it. I wonder how fast this thing would be if it had a Merlin in it that had been updated to more than 3000 HP Like Strega?
The majority of these especially in America are fitted with the allison V 12 from the say the P 40 they are just a far superior more reliable engine than the Russian power plant
@@Warbirds which is a shame so good to have original parts but just good to see these old war birds flying and anyway this achieved that has got to be good
@@asilfan Engines of the time had more or less the same performance. By the end of the war, the VK-105 and 7 were lagging behind in terms of raw power, but they were also lighter than the new Griffon. In those terms they were less efficient, but in theory could be pushed much further. They ran into cooling problems however. They also needed to keep the engines running for years, after the war, so they tuned VK-107A down to 1500 HP @ 3000 RPM.
@@cbz3237 really hard to find... i know one plane that still has the klimov engine but i only have recorded some short sequences of it. Maybe i got more luck this year
Sad, but nowdays we only can hear sounds of Lycoming engins on replicas of soviet WW2 fighters equped line engins, there is no one autentic Vk-105 or Vk-107 in the world for today!((

no the Yak 1 , 3 and 9 was based on french designs, like the Dewoitine D520 and the Arsenal VG 33 who had both a belly radiator and was very agile...The Klimov 105 engine is derived from they engine (Hispano Suiza Y12), very specific because had a 20mm Canon in the propeller shaft...
