Yakuza 0 is the first game chronologically, but it was the 6th game made in the series. It takes place in the late 80s when Japan's economy was booming, which is why those guys look so swag.

It's called Two dragons because this theme plays in the final battle where the protagonist and antagonist, who both have a dragon on their back fight to earn the name "Dragon of Dojima" The battle literally starts with them running and butting their shoulders so that both of their dragon tattoos face each other.

Yakuza is a series that can balance a serious plot with feels and all, and then have a sidequest where you have to help a shy dominatrix to overcome her fear and be a badass. This song is for the final boss and it does have a build up which sadly is not part of the official song, plus you know, the build up of the whole game on top of that so yeah, this one hits hard for me.

I would hesitate to call Yakuza a "gta-like" game just because there is no option to initiate wanton chaos. It absolutely looks like that sort of thing if you're just kinda watching so I don't fault ya there or anything. It's just one of those things where the game very carefully gates what and when you do stuff. Like, the combat, you cannot initiate combat because the characters are not the type to pick fights, but they're very much the type to finish them in as brutal a beatdown as possible. By the same token, all the side stuff is stuff the characters would do. So you get this very fleshed out image of characters that are both Yakuza badasses that will beat down any punk that steps to 'em, but also dorks that get too into video games and slot car racing or karaoke. To quote Super Eyepatch Wolf, "It takes this Yakuza demon and makes them human."

Yakuza is absolutely packed to the brim with martial arts, it's like, ridiculously hyper violent. Absolutely not a GTA like at all though. The games director actually had a whole talk about not wanting to glorify crime or violence, even going so far as to say "...I can't bring myself to promote the idea that killing, committing crimes, is fun." They're very emotional and story driven games that wildly oscilate between goofy antics, crazy fighting, and stoicly serious plots with tragic characters. That all probably kind of reads like a contradiction, because it absolutely is, but it's sooo worth playing. At the very least, glad you enjoy the music so much. I've been listening to this franchise's sound track every day since I got into it like...four years ago now.

Even though Nier: Automata and Persona 5 also came out in 2017, Yakuza 0 is the game I've listened to most from that year. So many amazing battle themes, karaoke songs, disco songs, the cabaret, etc., with a lot of different styles. Some others I love: Misery Comes On Beat, Make You Free, Receive You-Tech Trance Arrange, Fiercest Warrior Version 0, Customer Creed, Tusk, Tiger Flute, Judgment, and somewhat unironically As You Like.

Yakuza 0 is the first canonical game, but was released in 2015 AFTER Yakuza 5. The gameplay is actually very fun, it's action beat-em up kinda game, and the main story isn't incredibly long. Yakuza is definitely relatively open world - you got the whole of a Japanese district to explore usually. Probably a map similar in scale to FF7 Remake with Midgar. Funnily enough, it feels like FF7 Remake took some ideas from Yakuza with the way the side missions work + the humour involved that wasn't in the original game. Yakuza 0 definitely has one of the best soundtracks of the series, but Kiwami and Kiwami 2 also have some great stuff. Can't wait until you get to more of the Yakuza requests!

One of the most hype final boss themes in the series. Two Dragons is indeed symbolic as the two dragons are Kiryu the MC and the final boss. The Yakuza series has quite a few composers, but the music director Hidenori Shoji is considered the main one, as he composed a lot of the series most iconic tracks.

The Yakuza series was initially marketed to the US as a GTA-like experience, but it didn't do too well here. It wasn't until much later, when Yakuza 0 was sold as a fresh entry point to what had become a very convoluted series of plots, that it really exploded.

Your Yakuza/FFXIV videos give me LIFE man - esp with Yakuza where its VGM is still heavily underrated outside of its dedicated communities I hope you'll give it a shot, especially Y0 which is the prequel to the entire saga that also propelled its fading popularity in the west back to relevance since it's also the 6th entry -- due to its amazing plot that don't require any prior knowledge of previous titles & also being very accessible gameplay-wise it's an amazing pick-up game even if you have zero plans to finish the entire series, a rollercoaster of 20-30 hours gameplay!

I don't think I've ever listened to this song outside of the final battle, because my head is inserting Kiryu yelling while he's doing stuff like kicking the boss down stairs or slamming his head into railing. I got into the series like 5 years ago and it's great, 0 being my favorite. The stories are generally pretty serious, even though it can have some stupid plot points like someone having a secret twin brother in the CIA, but there's also amazing moments like Saejima's speech in Yakuza 4, talking about how killing has haunted him. The seriousness gets balanced out by the numerous side stories and activities you lighten the mood pretty much any time you want. Those side things are what trap most people into the series and have people going "There's a main story?" I could go on all day, but no one would bother reading that. Yakuza is great, and I'm glad to see it getting so recognized now.

If you ever needed any indication that this series is incredible and worth every dollar, let me just say this: My very first Yakuza game I ever actually played was Yakuza: Like a Dragon (yes, really. I didn't touch the series until Yakuza 7). I enjoyed it so much I bought and played Yakuza 0 because I'd heard it was just as good as the incredible game I had just finished. I subsequently enjoyed 0 so much that *I proceeded to buy and play through Every other mainline game in the series because "if they were even half as good as LaD or 0 then they'd still be incredible and worth the price of admission".* If that doesn't say basically everything about how good these games are, I honestly don't know what will. I mean, those two games were so good that they convinced me to just straight up purchase every other one because its world was such a well crafted masterpiece with amazing stories, twists, and some of the most batshit-insane silly side content I've ever had the joy of playing. I legitimately cannot praise this series more other than saying that You will Not regret playing (or at least watching a Let's Play of) this game. You will remember this game, because the Yakuza series takes the often-applied (wrongfully in my opinion) moniker of "gta-like" and kicks it out of the way so that it can tell its incredible story with its world of colourful, vibrant, dirty, honorable, violent criminals acting like the human beings they are in a truly fantastic world.

Yakuza is really immersive, mostly because the city you're in feels alive. You can do whatever you want and if you ever get tired of one activity you can just do something else. And that's not even mentioning the story, which is always insanely well written. Especially with Yakuza 0

Yakuza is basically a JRPG with a beat-em-up for combat. Also something that is sadly missed with listening to track like this is that it's dynamic with the fight - the boss goes through three phases and there's also parts each for the beginning, each phase transition and even the end. The player and the boss each have three fighting styles and the gameplay encourages the player to match the boss' switching (and the music in turn).
@unamusedrohan1666

Yakuza as a series actually hides a lot of characterization and storytelling within it's music. The fact that, with almost no context, you got most of the circumstances of the encounter around this song is testament to that. For that reason alone, I think you'd get a lot out of this series. That said, they tend to be big time sinks (especially 0 and 5) so if you find that too much of a turn off, I recommend the analysis series by TehSnakerer for a really comprehensive look at each game (up to 0 so far) from both a mechanical and narrative standpoint.

Two Dragons refers to the main protagonist, and the final boss, each bearing a dragon tattoo on their back, clashing for the title of true dragon. so that sort of back and forth you were joking around with referring to the guitars was probably intentional.

Since you mentioned movies, I would say the games take a lot of inspiration from Japanese Yakuza Movies, even having IRL actors primarily (IIRC) known for their roles in said movies being the face models and voice actors for some of the characters. A prime example of this is Hitoshi Ozawa and Kuze.

So this is my favorite track in the game and the title does have meaning behind it. It's the track used for the final boss fight in the game and both characters have dragons tatooed on their backs, hence Two Dragons. And at least for the antagonist, it's a fight to determine which dragon is strongest. It's been a while since I played them, but if I recall there's an implication that getting a dragon tattoo is a bold statement because it implies the person wearing it is the strongest, so there can only be one. And this comes up a second time in Yakuza 2 with the Dragon of the East vs the Dragon of the West, and now the new protagonist from Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon has a different spin on it where the tattoo starts off as a Koi Fish jumping out of the water and beginning to transform into a dragon. And just as a fun fact, the series original Japanese name is Like A Dragon. It was retitled to Yakuza in the West and now with Yakuza 7 they pulled a Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and officially merged the two names.

Two things I wanted to say: 1. To explain the gameplay a little bit, the Yakuza games have a lot of DNA from Shenmue 1 and 2 in them (if that means anything to you). There's a lot to love about the Yakuza games, and I do love all of it, but one of the big things that it does that no other game I can think of do is act as virtual tourism. Every game features, usually prominently, the same few city blocks in modern day (at the time) Tokyo, so you really get a feel for area, while also seeing it evolve and change alongside real-world Japan. 0 is the one exception, because it's a prequel set in the 80s, so you really get to see Japan in the height of their economic bubble. I would absolutely recommend playing them if you ever need something to play, and 0 is a fantastic onramp for it, since it is a prequel. 2. My favorite Yakuza tracks are A Scattered Moment and Outlaw's Lullaby, both from Yakuza 2. They're very different tracks, and both are absolutely phenomenal.

Yakuza does give that impression due to its most popular clips. Everyone loves memeing its craziness. That's why I stayed away from the series for so long. After a friend of mine sang its praises, which was surprising to me, I decided to try Yakuza 0. And that is how I ended up binging all eight games in the series over a month. It is at that point you realize why the original name of the series is Ryu ga Gotoku or "Like a Dragon" and that the translated name "Yakuza" does not quite do it justice.

As someone who started with 2 then replayed 1, this series has god tier music and gameplay. The Jet Li game you're thinking of is Jet Li: Rise to Honor. It's legit good game with great mechanics. I hope you'll review God Hand music someday. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TJ6Tl8EjVMc.html

I would hesitate to call Yakuza a “GTA-like” game. I love both series for very different reasons

Always remember that scene Kiryu: "You can keep the cute nickname, but... there can be only one dragon" Soejima: "Yeah. I couldn't agree more" Kiryu: " I'll give your fight. And I'll end your war!" Yakuza 0 is a masterpiece

That wasn't Saejima lmao, Saejima is the protagonist (one of the protagonists technically) in Yakuza 4 and 5. The final boss of Yakuza 0 is Shibusawa.
