Nice video, good explanation, and I like the ending too. Yamaha is good stuff, not perfect sometimes but good. Toyota vehicles are good vehicles, not perfect sometimes but definitely good quality. Thanks for the info I'm shopping a Yamaha 255 FSH sport e.
Great video! Always buy Yamaha boats just picked up a 2015 242 LS and only 15 Minutes of in the water so no issues yet but you never know!!! I will never forget this info if I see water..... thanks again great job
The only reason a through hull fitting is used in the anchor locker is to drain out the water and rinse the anchor after use. Your dealer should run a hose in all the new boats anchor lockers on his lot. If the bilges are dry there's no problem. If they are wet Yamaha has a recall issue. Good detective work!
I have a 2017 and Yamaha had the same problem back then with the anchor locker drain. I would have thought they would have acknowledged this problem by now.
Minor issue all things considered. Still a bummer when anything goes wrong on a brand new boat. Owner of a 2018 242 S. So far, the boat is rock solid. Good luck and hopefully this will be your last problem
I have a 2017 212x and had the same thing happen with the anchor locker. I am amazed they haven’t acknowledged this problem. We had 10 people on the boat and had to turn back to the dock because the pump couldn’t keep up.
I bought a brand new 2021 Yamaha 212 XE. When I put the boat on the trailer after the first time in the water, about 4 gallons of water came out when I removed the drain plug. I also retrieved several stainless steel screws, washers, and aluminum shavings. I have since discovered that the drain plug was blocked by manufacturing debris. The drain plug is actually supposed to counter sink about 3/8 of an inch inside of the drain plug hole. If the drain plug is not countersinking fairly deeply into the drain plug hole, you will get a lot of water. It will go in, and stop, and you will think that turning it any more will break the plastic drain plug, but it goes in quite a bit farther. I get zero water in the boat now that the drain plug actually goes all the way in.
I have a 2019 242SE and I still sometimes get some debris coming out. I have pulled out numerous snipped off tie wraps, many (I mean a LOT) pieces of metal shavings (curly pieces), screws, nuts, and other miscellaneous debris out of the drain plug hole. Hello Yamaha, ever heard of a vacuum? I should have saved all of it and mailed it to Yamaha.
Pretty shitty craftsmanship for what a $85K boat? I bought a 2016 Yamaha SX192 new and haven't had any issues with expect not putting the clean out port plug in correctly and having the engine compartment full up with water to the exhaust manifold. Luckily I caught it in time and the bulge did it's job. I have my name in the hat to upgrade to a AR250, but it's a little concerning that Yamaha's quality control looks to have taken a step backwards.
