Thanks for the demo. What was the price of this when it Cosme out? It seems to compare pretty favorably to the Roland Jupiter 4 - although the strings are awful, at least without effects.
I have done some price comparisons for the following synths:- Yamaha CS50 - Price new - 1977 - £2,119 £2,119 converts to £11,850 in 2024 Second Hand price paid January 2024 - £4,000 Yamaha CS80 - Price new - 1977 - £4,950 £4950 converts to £27,682 in 2024 Second Hand price paid Sept 2022 - £32,500 I think I got a bargain with the CS50!
@@AndyWhitmore Relative to living costs though, those synths at that time represented huge buying power. My parents sold their house in oxforshire for 7000 pounds in 1977.
You start latching on to the power of the CS-50 at the end. It does nice CS-80ish brass and pads as expected, but once you crank up that cross modulation and send it into outer space, it becomes a treasure trove of effects and foley for your tracks.
Thank you for this video ❤❤ Can you do one with delays and reverbs? Thats how most artists used the CS series. But its great to hear without of course first
I saw one of these in my local shop circa 87/88... also a mint JP6 for about £650... those were the days... while it's not quite my thing it defo does get you in the CS80 territory for a fraction of the price... would sound nice with a good Lexicon reverb too...
I will happily re-release all these videos with effects - I have done that in the past but this time just decided to release the videos dry. Thanks for the encouragement.
Its much closer to a CS80 than any other synth for this money. It has more modulation sources than any Roland, Oberheim or Prophet. The CS range has a sound of its own & compliments any synth set up.
Please do not quote vintagesynthexplorer for CS-50. "Thin sound, lacking warm filters" while it's all damn identical to CS-60 and CS-80. They were biased like hell.
Lol nearly every synth is without effects but doubly so with CS. Imagine a Gibson electric guitar video with no amp, overdrive...very underwhelming indeed. The CS oscillators though are incredible and there are reasons they maintain the highest vintage prices.
@@Fallingoverbackwards i’m glad you noticed that there are no effects - I am not trying to pretty these synths up so they sound better than they are - I’m trying to do a realistic representation of the synths and you have noticed this - thanks for watching
