I'm playing a black lacquer Yamaha 82Z tenor with the stock G1 neck and a solid silver V1 neck. I think the silver neck has a more refined sound, but the stock neck has a more aggressive tone. I'm using a Roberto's Winds reed with a Otto Link 9* Florida STM No USA.

Yeah that V1 sounds great.

I had a hard time telling the difference but overall the g1 had a more robust tone and seemed more pleasant, less buzzy

You are to over the place to tell a difference. I nice jazz piece in both necks. So we can really tell. As your playing is fantastic.

Beautiful sound on both. I think the Z is a little brighter in tone overall than the 875 due to the Z being less weight (ribs, bell brace, walls, ... all play a factor) and so the Z resonates more. The G1 neck has a really great sound, more contemporary, rock, modern, ... The silver V1 neck does give a slightly more traditional 'vintage' sound quality. Both necks seem to speak very well from the bell notes to the altissimo range with clarity and equality in volume. Neither seems to 'choke' off the upper notes. You sound fantastic on both and I found it very enjoyable to listen to you play through both necks. This is a total personal preference on your part. Either way, that Yamaha sounds incredible.

Man... you have a great tone no matter... Congrats! Definitively, two different horns when you play with this or that neck -- I like the original G1 better -- warmer, darker, velvetier, or maybe more "you". The V1 is more open, focused, and bright. Maybe it is the fact that it is solid silver made. I play a Yamaha YAS62 alto with a Selmer 80a neck and the result is excellent. Now I am trying to see what neck fits better for my YTS62/G1 neck. Thank you for the video!

Agreed. Still sounds great though. Not a big fan of the Yamaha's as they tend to be too bright for me but you sound great.

Great sound, hands down. Before talking about the necks: I love the way you bend from above (particularly noticeable in "The very thought of you makes my heart sing..."). It's almost like you picture the centre being mid-way whereas I have always pictured it being 75% up (make sense?). Anyway, it's given me something to think about embouchure-wise for my own sound. I have an 875 with a G1 neck and have heard the 875 (never tried a Z) is darker, but you get a great sound on the Z. Like many others, I think the V1 is bright (not as nice to my ear). It sounds a little more free-blowing (am I wrong?), but the tone is not as "jazz" as the G1.

Hi Thanks for checking it out. With tuning I pay close attention to how certain singers approach their intonation.I like the ones that are more fluid and will kind of deliberately push a note in and out of tune as they hold it out. I particularly like Etta Jones ( not to be confused with Etta James, although I like her too), all the great jazz singers do this. I like Joe Williams too.

@@jeffhackworth Cheers Jeff. I had a solid listen to Etta after your reply. My wife's a singer, and we both really enjoyed listening + the parallel of a tenor player and singer couple playing together for years wasn't lost on us either.

G1 a little bit bright, but I 'not say that V1 gives very wide and rich tone.....Difference in sound not more....
