Yamaha rates the max power of these 357cc motors at 3200 rpm. If you are going to futz with the governor, install a tach temporarily (they are under $10 on-line). 20.5" tires @ 2800 rpm will give you 18 mph steady, 20 mph foot-to-the-floor @ 3000 rpm without lift, special gears or kits. Keep a safety margin. Replacement motors are north of $2K and you are running rear-wheel-only brakes designed for turf speeds.
I work at a new/used golf cart dealership and we are a Yamaha dealer and we turn up the governor's on almost ebery golf cart but leave a 1/4 inch of thread and thats the sweet spot wont over rev engine and will get the new lsvs up to the 25-29 mph that some of the small beach towns around our area requires a lsv street leagal golf cart to go and they do test the speed st the dmv depending what side of town and what town you live in especially if ots one fonthe little beach towns. my personal golf cart was a golf course cart and its 7 years since i refurbished and built it into a lsv street legal cart turned all thebway up on Governor and have not had one single issue with kver reving or motor wearinf out due to adjusting the governor. Just dont remove it internally completely that woll blow up these motors and also drill put that little screen on the tail end of the exhaust cause it clogs up with carbon and will caus your golf car tto run loke crap eventually guarantee sonwe droll them pit off ebery cart new and used.
I have a 72 Yamaha G1 my Governor stud broke off, is there any way to JB weld that stud back in and disconnect the tightness so that that arm can still swing freely so I can use the golf cart I know I won't have a governor no more which is fine
Electric carts do not have "governors" like gas carts do. To speed up an electric cart you have to either purchase a "speed code" for a dealer to reprogram your controller, or install an aftermarket controller.
We took down the part 2 video. We have a done a bunch of R&D since then on getting more performance out of these Quietechs. We plan on releasing a bunch of new videos and products on our website to get more speed and power from the Quietechs in the next couple months. One of our test Quietechs is currently running over 30 mph now. www.powerequipmentman.com
Sorry but we don't have these products ready to start selling just yet. We are getting close though. Our plan is to sell a High Performance Package that will come with the needed parts and once you purchase the kit you get access to our installation and tuning videos that will only be available on our website. Make sure you are subscribed to this youtube channel and hit the bell so you get the notifications when we release the announcement and information video regarding the kits.
No it doesn't. Drill out the screen on the end of the exhaust the tail end of it you gotta take the plastice cover off the bottom of the cart and remove the rubber boot covering the tail end of the exhaust to do it and once you drill it and remove that screen it will increase power torque and performance instantly. I build custom golf carts and have had golf carts from golf course run 5 mph like crap with governor turned up and as asppn as I remove the clogged up screen it went from. 5 mph like crap to going 25-30 mph instantly
We are currently testing some high speed gears on our demo carts, along with some other performance modifications. We plan to have them available on our website in the next couple months. Keep an eye out - www.powerequipmentman.com
If you adjust the governor to about 3/4 of the way, like we show to do in the video, your engine will be fine. We do not recommend tightening it all the way down.
