I've done a PAIR delete on both my FJR's. So it makes plugs n valve clearance checks easier. Great bikes. Just wish they were continuing manufacture of these awesome bikes. Thousands of them in use still with Police Forces all over the world. Fast, plenty of torque, handle weight easy, engines good for 300,000 miles regularly, Iron Butt favourite, handle great and even good mpg for size and weight. I get 53mpg average on my Gen 3 in Touring mode.

Anything worth doing is worth over doing! That’s how I feel and by the care you show in your videos I can see you feel the same way!

I just prop tank up for spark plug change and throttle body sync.

I understand your logic of using grease on spark plug threads. However, there is another school of thought on using loctite to prevent the loosening of the plugs due to vibrations. As such, I do not use any and just tighten the plugs to the specified torque. Good video! Cheers!
@TheOldMechanic
@TheOldMechanic Год назад
Loctite on sparkplugs is not a good idea never. I use Belray to prefent them from corroding. Always use a torque wrench, torque them to the right spec an your good to go 😉

Only use grease on threads when it doesn't matter if you strip the threads! Usually the torque setting in the manual is for clean and dry threads, unless it specifically says otherwise. If you use grease on the plugs you risk stripping the threads in the head as the torque will be less for a given stretch. When you reach the torque setting the threads may be over stretched.

@@peterwilliams1004 agree, also only click the torque wrench once, not multiple times

Good job and well explained. I think the throttle cables must be placed between the cooling hoses, not over them, because it may deform and decrease the speed of the coolant or damege the hose. If you watch your video, see the cable is doing pression on the rigth hose. Saludos desde España

I have been in love with these models for years. So I bought a ninja 1000 sx.🙄 Wich I sold after half a year, just because they really are not the touring bikes journalists say they are. Now I have a NC 750X, which is ok to work on, too much plastic plugs however. What really stands out on these yamaha's is the fact that the fairings are proper made, and designed to get on and off the bike in a lasting way with screws. I am getting in love again I believe. Question for T.O.M. : is it ok to apply a little molybdenum grease on the threads of the spark plugs? Thanks and keep on bringing them, I am glad I subscribed. Finally a decent channel, in a jungle of nonsense.

Hi Walter, if you mean the Bell Ray grease I am using then its okay. I am using that grease for many many years now and never had a problem getting sparplugs out. Btw I think that the Yamaha is the best japanese bike, the build quality is of a high standard, and I never noticed that they took shortcuts you know. 😉👍🏻👊🏻

Is that your own Yamaha? They sure don't make it easy to change plugs, do they?
@FREE_PUREBLOOD333
@FREE_PUREBLOOD333 Год назад
They're easy to change plugs on FJR 1300. Try a GTR 1400 Kawasaki. Lol.
@fg146
@fg146 Год назад
@@FREE_PUREBLOOD333 I have a Vulcan 1500 Nomad FI. You just pop the coil wires off and screw all four out lol. I'm guessing a lot of plugs go unchanged when they should be in bikes like yours just because of the pain in the butt process.
@FREE_PUREBLOOD333
@FREE_PUREBLOOD333 Год назад
@@fg146 Vulcan great bike to work on. Yep I bet plenty of owners don't do half the service jobs that are sposed to be done on their bikes. I find FJR's ok to work on to be honest. Bottom yoke punch bolts are a pain to get to on Gen 3. Plus coolant flush n change on Gen 3 means left side fairing off to undo expansion tank n flush it out. So I do fork service at same time.
