I am a purveyor of musical instruments (among many other things). This is a rather raw video from my tour of the Yamaha Guitar factory in Hamamatsu , Japan. They make fantastic instruments!

I foolishly overlooked them but soon realized I never ever played a bad one. Even the entry level and now in my opinion, the L , LL series customs beat anything out there. Anything and at a much better price.

@@reilly-vc1rm well how many rockstars do you remember using yamaha guitars. Slash: gibson Bb king: gibson John Mayer: prs Jimi Hendrix: fender Eric Clapton: fender Angus young: gibson Kurt cobain: fender SRV: fender Joe satriani: ibanez Any guitarist you know of would be either using fender, Gibson, prs , ibanez, BC rich etc. And as far as you're concerned about my knowledge of guitars . Iam an aspiring luthier I know everything there is about guitar luthierie, and how the major brands like gibson and fender are ridiculously overrated and overpriced . Yamaha guitar quality is unparalleled and their pricing is justified. So yes yamaha is the only god tier guitar brand out there. Japanese product's quality and prices are unmatched. It's just sad they are not world leaders in guitar market.

I just found a FG340 ll in a Goodwill store for 150 dollars , it was missing a string....it is from 1985 , in perfect condition ! Made in Japan with Yamaha tuners made in Japan. I put a new set of bronze 80/20 's , sounds amazing and being fully bound it is beautiful . Amazing craftsmanship. Looking in side the sound hole is a feast for the eyes , perfect joiner work. So tight !

Hey Bradley, When the CNC carves those necks, are they only rough carving it so the craftsman can finish final shaping it by hand, or does it carve it to the final thickness. Do you remember if the craftsmen do any work to the neck after it comes from the machine?
@BradleyJohnson13

Yes. They get finished by hand. CNC takes away the bulk of the repetitive work

To me Santanas tone was way superior when he had his Yamaha it had such a warm charming rich mid tone. After he switched to PRS the tone sounded much thiner and hollow. I wonder if Santana switched because of sponsorship? Having his own model?

I have a huge, beautiful Yamaha jumbo guitar, made in Japan and signed inside by the luthier about 25 years ago. It's the most amazing instrument, and I've been gigging it since the early 2000's where I've had loads of other musicians (usually with boutique brand guitars themselves) surprised that it sounds and feels like it does for being 'just a Yamaha'. I own a Lowden and two Avalons, too, and as amazing as they are, the Yamaha might yet be my favourite. Watching this video, I see what I suspected about how and where it was made. :)

It's wonderful that the Western world made it lawful to send almost their entire industry and manufacture to communist China. Very generous of them to deliberately and knowingly impoverish their own lands in favour of a communist China leg-up. Talk about a major windfall falling into your lap.

They probably don't sell like 1/2 a million guitars a year either. If they did they'd probably have machines doing some of the work as well. You're going to get a more precise consistent accurate cut with a CNC machine than you will eyeballing it by hand anyway. As you can see a lot of the work is still done by hand.
