Compact and stylish digital piano
The P-105 is a compact digital piano with Yamaha's oustanding acoustic piano touch and tone. It is portable, easy-to-use and versatile for everyone from beginner to pro.
Pianist Style
Pianist Styles turn your simple chords into exciting accompaniment. Play a chord and the Pianist Style gives you a full piano accompaniment. 10 built-in Styles offer the variety of backings to fit your performance and help you sound great!
Rhythm function
Basic drum patterns put the "fun" back into practicing and are a practical alternative to a metronome. You can also turn your solo act into a two-piece band where the dummer is always on time.
Piano sound
The P-105 uses Yamaha's "Pure CF sound engine," a first for the P-series. This piano sound was recorded from Yamaha's renowned CFIIIS concert grand piano, which can be heard on stages all over the world.
Built-in speakers
P-105 has built-in, true-circle speakers. The true-circle speakers vibrate naturally with good balance to convey full, rich, low-frequencies. Newly added tweeters offer a clear and brilliant sound due to their strategic positioning. Together, they provide and excellent balance of power and clarity.
88 weighted keyboard
Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. The keyboard's sensitivity can even be adjusted to match your playing style. This Graded Hammer technology allows this lightweight instrument to provide an authentic touch.
Great Connectivity
The P-105 is equipped with USB TO HOST to connect directly to your computer for use with various education, notation and music production applications. There's also an AUX LINE OUT to connect to a computer sound card, mixing console or powered speakers - great for recording or performing live. Since it's a true line-output, the built-in speakers remain on for monitoring as opposed to switching OFF when using the more common headphone output.

I inadvertently left out a few specs when recording this video. (Nerves I guess). The P105 has 128 note polyphony. Any other questions, let me know. Tony Aiello

The Yamaha P105 comes with a music rack, power supply, and a foot-switch style square pedal. And as I mentioned towards the end of the video, we also have the P105 available in a few packages with some stands, benches, headphones and more. Check our website for more details under keyboard packages. Thanks. -Tony

You're correct. Midi and Audio are two separate items. To record audio is a matter of taking the audio out of your P105 and sending into your computer. Either using the mic or line in on your internal sound card or using an external USB or Firewire interface. Recording is done using software programs (such as Cakewalk Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools, etc) When you're done, you just export the wave file and burn to a CD. Hope this helps.

There are a number of partially hidden functions. They are charted out in the P105 Quick Operation Guide. In the case of transposing, hold down the demo/song plus the metronome/rhythm buttons, and then simultaneously hit a key between the range of F#3 to F#4. C4 being the natural key of C (no transposition). Good Luck!

There are a number of hidden functions on the P105 including the reverb settings, such as On/Off, Reverb Type, and Depth. Hold down the metronome/rhythm button and simultaneously hit the top 'High C'. This is On/Off. G#, A, A#, and B are Types Room, Hall 1, Hall 2, and Stage respectively. F (-1)and G (+1) are for adjusting Reverb depth with F# being the default depth. Other functions are also available. Check your manual for a Quick Operation Guide. I hope this helps!

I think you're headed in the right direction. The P105 would be an excellent choice for a piano-like experience, just a few variations of sounds, perfect for playing jazz and extremely portable. (25.5 lbs) For the things you're looking for, the P105 seems perfect and definitely won't disappoint. Check it out. Good Luck.

With the Graded Hammer Action, Yamaha CF III Grand Piano Samples, Slim light weight design, N' Stuff Music's optional Packages of stands, benches, pedals, etc., and a 3 year parts and labor Warranty, the Yamaha P105 is hard to beat! I'd call it a 'No Brainer' ! It's the kind of instrument you can use as a beginner, and continue to use as a pro!

Both have Great Piano Sound and Feel in a Light weight, Slim design package. Difference wise, the P35 is headphone/output only where the P105 has dedicated L&R outs and headphone outs. Another big difference is the polyphony, 32 for the P35 and 128 for the P105. Among the other bells and whistles, there are more sounds and variations, the ability to split the keyboard, a recorder, 10 rhythms, and 10 pianist styles. But if what you want is piano, either of these models will not disappoint.
@NStuffMusic

The P105 has an on board simple one track midi recorder. As you know, midi and audio are 2 different things. On playback the midi data stream triggers the tone generator of the piano which is a stereo unit. So the end result is a stereo recording. I hope that answers the question for you. -Tony

It's kinda like comparing apples to oranges. The YPG-235 is a 76 key semi-weighted keyboard with auto-accompaniment and has a decent piano sound. It's loaded with all the General Midi voices and then some. Much more than just piano oriented tones. Financially speaking I can understand this choice. However, you may want to look at the Yamaha P-35 Digital Piano also. It's priced between the P105 and the YPG235. Let me know what you think. -Tony

well I own the P 105 and love it. Very nice keyboard and the weighted keys are outstanding. I haven't played the P115 B but I imagine it is a great keyboard as well based on what I know of the P105.

rahn lawson They're virtually identical, the two main differences from them is that the P115 has a sound boost function that sets the EQ more higher, and has an IOS app to browse the instruments quickly on Apple devices, but that's pretty much it, plus I do own the P115 and it's a great piano :) And P.S edit, there is a third piano tone called mellow piano and a whirly added in there as well

Yes. You can record what you're playing. And while it's playing back you can pick a different sound or patch and play along. However, if that is something you're very interested in, check out something in a workstation genre, such as the Yamaha MOX8 or the soon to be released, the MOXF8! On either of these you can record up to 16 sounds or tracks! Call me if you would like any more info! - Tony A.

The P35 does have a graded hammer action. The biggest difference between the P35 and the P105 is polyphony. 32 and 128 respectively. However, both have a very nice quality of piano samples. If the white P105 is what you want, let me know. We don't keep that model in stock, but I could order it for you. Thanks. -Tony
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 11 лет назад
Both the P35 and the P105 are a good fit for your use. Personally, I feel it's worth the few extra bucks to get the P105 mostly for the 128 notes of polyphony (how many notes that can play simultaneously) compared to 32 in the P35, and the P105's dedicated audio outputs are great if you ever have the need to play your P105 thru an amp or sound system. The P35 only has headphone/audio outs. You may be a beginner now, but you never know where your playing will take you! Good Luck!

hello there! so I bought the p-105, and i wish to connect it to my computer so that i could record my playing just like this man in the video. i asked the person working in the yamaha store near me what i should buy to connect my piano to my computer and he gave me the ux16. when i got back home and opened it to connect it to my piano, i couldnt. the terminal on the piano was different from the ux16. i already paid like 75 dollars for the ux16, and i wish to return it. but what should i buy exactly to be able to record my playing just like this man in the video? i'd like the sound quality to be just like this video. any help is very much appreciated
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 10 лет назад
Hi, this is Tony (the video guy). The UX16 is a midi to USB converter and is not a necessity with the P105 as it already has a USB output. However it's used to record your performance or MIDI info not audio. You need an audio interface such as the Audiogram3. You connect your piano audio outs (Left and Right) into the Audiogram3. It sends the audio to the computer recording software thru a USB cable. You then can save it as a wave file or mp3 and can be burned to a CD or emailed to a friend. Good luck with your setup. Thanks.Tony

Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, the keys of the lower notes have a heavier touch, while the higher ones are more responsive to lighter playing. There is a man at AZPianoNews, Tim Praskins who claims just the opposite: for him it's a 'No-Brainer' to choose Casio PX150 over Yamaha P105. Casio has (and this is reported by some other people on the Internet) a better new weighted keyboard design, the '3-sensor weighted hammer key action technology' while Yamaha still uses its outdated GH technology. Also Casio has 5 acoustic piano samples over just 2 in Yamaha.
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 11 лет назад
Both have a great piano sound and graded hammer action keybeds. There are more variations on the sounds on the SP250 and it's factory packed with a bolt on stand and pedal. With Yamaha you'll need to add one of our package deals to match up. I really think it's a matter of preference as far as the keyboard feel and sounds are concerned. Personally, I lean towards the Yamaha, but I feel you wouldn't go wrong with either choice. Check them both out! Good Luck with your choice! Thanks. -Tony

I do have a question, im not very technologically savvy, and I honestly cannot figure out a way to record audio from the piano to my laptop. Hi, I have a Yamaha P105 Digital Piano. Recently I bought a pair of Yamaha HS5 studio monitors and connected them to the P105. The high frequency tones in the grand piano mode are very distorted and do not come from the tweeter. All other modes(electri piano, strings, rock organ etc...) are crystal clear. However when I connect my headphones to the P105 piano, all sounds in all modes(including the grand piano mode) are crystal clear for all the range of frequencies. Can you please suggest how I can improve the sound quality....
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 10 лет назад
It's hard to say what's wrong. I would suggest trying to zero in on the issue. Play a tune from an MP3 or iPod into the HS5's paying close attention to both woofer and tweeter. If they are producing clean sound, the issue may be the keyboard. Although, I've not heard of only the piano sound causing distortion. Also keep in mind, the speakers are near-field monitors not designed to rock the house, but as a source of reference quality audio. If none of this helps, find a local authorized service center. Good Luck!
@NStuffMusic

Did you load the P105 USB Drivers for Windows 7 before connecting? If so, the PC should recognize the P105. The USB connection is not an Audio I/O but MIDI I/O, and you can record midi tracks using your favorite software. (Cubase, Sonar, Pro Tools, etc) Make sure your software preferences or options has the P105 selected for MIDI I/O. At this point, you should be good to go! Good Luck!

I bought one and I dont have the stand to put the piano. which stand should I buy?
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 9 лет назад
The Yamaha L85 is a good choice and is the matching wooden stand that makes it look like a spinet piano. If portability is important to you, The Gator Frameworks GFWKEY2000X is a double braced scissor or X style stand. Both are available on our website. Thanks.

Hi Tony, I really love this piano, wondering, how do you transpose the keyboard
@marb3ll3
@marb3ll3 11 лет назад
Is there a way of recording what you've played, and then playing the recordings with the scores shown ( on an ipad or computer or something), like what the dgx640 does? I love the sound of 105 but I love doing recordings and composing.

Basically, it's a about 2 measures of a Bach piece I learned in college, but not being a classically trained pianist, I couldn't tell you the title of the piece. Sorry. - Tony

Quick question. If you make changes to this Pianos default settings eg. Reverb, transposition, touch sensitivity. Does the piano remember them if you turn it off and back on or does it does it go back to the default once turned back on?
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 9 лет назад
Good question. I had to go do an experiment myself on the P105. It does revert to it's default settings unfortunately. I cranked the reverb and then turned it off. Upon start up, it was back to normal. Unless there is a way to save or store your edits as default. I will look into it. Thanks. Tony.

id like to ask about the piano sensitivity..well can you change the weight of the keys i mean the get more heavy when you choose for excample the hard sensitivity?
@justinsarra1871
@justinsarra1871 10 лет назад
You can change the internal velocity sensitivity which changes the way the electronics respond to the keys. Hard (you must play hard to reach full velocity) to Soft (the keys are super sensitive and don't require much effort) However nothing changes the physical weight or mechanics of the keys.

Tony, can you tell me -- can you record what you play on the 105? Im looking for a keyboard that can record to a disk or hard drive so then I can play it back WHILE I play if that makes sense. Thanks.

When using the AUX outputs in back, is there any way to turn off the built-in speakers (without putting something in the headphones jack)?
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 10 лет назад
There are lot hidden functions on the P105 but there's nothing to turn off the speakers. I suggest just buying a dummy plug (maybe an adapter) for the headphone jack to kill the speakers. Good Luck!

Hello +aro p I got the P105 after some on site testing. If I remember correctly CDP120 has more "functions" but the feel and action, to me, is better on P105. you could change the sound quality for both if you don't like the default ones, and how could connect to the computer via USB. Though the yamaha software was kind of weak and buggy at times. Hope this help! Cheers.

Is it possible to use the P105 as a midi controller to use with a DAW?
@NStuffMusic

The P105 has a USB connection for just that purpose. It works fine as a midi controller.

Can you please tell me if this piano is compatible with third party pedals. I have very little space at home, so I would be unable to have the piano permanently set up on one of the solid stands available. Unless I'm mistaken, the solid stand is required for Yamaha's own three pedal unit (which is annoying as this piano seems ideal in every other aspect). Alternatively, I would be grateful if you could recommend a digital piano for a similar price that has good key action/feel and is compatible with a three pedal unit that doesn't require a solid stand.

Which is best keyboard roland f20 vs Yamaha p105 Can u suggest which I should buy
@NStuffMusic
@NStuffMusic 9 лет назад
Pritesh 9768775447 The P105B is no longer but it's replacement the P115B has a new piano engine, 192 notes of polyphony, 14 sounds and 14 rhythm patterns, reverbs, splits, layers and a free Apple iOS app to visually control and demo, edit and store your custom settings. As far as piano is concerned, the P115 is superior in my opinion. Check one out when you can. Actually, you can download and try the app without the P115 and still be able to hear demos and check out the features. Call or email me if you have any questions.- Tony
