Justin takes a look at both the Yamaha PSR-SX700 and the Korg PA700 and takes us through some of the various features and sounds on both keyboards. Which is better? Let us know in the comments
The Korg has what they call a "dryer" sound rather than the "wet" sound the Yamaha has. The Korg has settings to reduce or increase the dry sound of each instrument. I was on the fence between the Korg and Yamaha so I downloaded the manuals for both the Yamaha PSR-SX900 and the Korg PA1000. The Korg has settings that are similar to my electronic drum module (Roland TD27) for my electronic drum kit. The Korg not only allows you to pick the drumset, but also the individual drums and cymbals themselves. I have also created drum styles by importing drum MIDI files from Superior Drummer 3 then adding additional accompaniments in the style. Korg has a screen setting that shows the fret of a guitar and allows you to add notes and playing technique. The Korg seems complicated from looking from far away, but it really gives quite a bit of control over your instruments. I purchased the PA1000 as I can make it sound like the Yamaha by adding compression and wetting the sound.
So many comments on sounds on here. While important sounds can easily manipulated and changed. Features usually can not be changed and the ability of the player can not be changed unless they choose to do make it so. My advice, instead of focusing on which one sounds better or is better to you, instead focus on making yourself a better player so either in your hands would sound like the best option.
We bought a P700 from Keith at A &C Hamilton. It took a few weeks to get familiar with the work paths. But it has been brilliant for accompanying the StHelens Singers.
Thanks for this helpful video. From reading the comments it seems about half the people like one better and about half like the other better. I wonder how the Roland E-A7 would fit into this discussion?
@@musicforever7451 Depends, for casual player, Yamaha will sound better. For performer with intermediate arrangement skill, both work quite well. For real pro to play rock, pop, and maybe Jazz, they prefer Korg because of the flexibility in customization. For pro performer who want to solo cinematic music, Yamaha still win in this aspect.
@@beloncfy Korg has far more realistic sounds IMHO, if you watch some of the side by side comparisons even Roland can't really match what Korg offers. But maybe Yamaha is preferable for Live Electronic performance i don't really know about that. I believe Digital Pianos are where Yamaha really shines.
@@sergius4754 Yamaha sounds sweet, but it is not required all time, where as korg it doesn't sounds sweet until we make it some changes, so if we want an another type of sound (ambient, lofi, etc) we can edit it a make sound in the way we think.
I have also a Korg PA588, Korg Krome. Sound editing is a headache on them if you just use instrument. If computer, it`s better, but anyway who have unplenty of time to do that? I just want best result in shortest period of time. In this Yamaha excels. Yamaha PSR-SX700 is very nice and easy to play and to quickly arrange the styles and sounds for songs you want to play... I would say that for proffessionals Korg may be better with technical possibilities, but for home usage Yamaha is much easy to manage
@@fredvillaume8490 I would recommend SX900 for prices higher than Genos. Same voices as genos but lacks aftertouch, slider, super articulation 2, some DSP and voices (no revo drums on SX900). SX900 sounds more fantastic to me than SX700. The SX700 sounds similar to the old PSR S970, so I wouldn't recommend it. Sadly, the electric guitar on Genos still has no differences in my ear. The difference is there are lots more amp simulators on Genos than SX900. Korg still lacks some sounds, including drums, but is better at the electric guitar and strings.
@@keanuman1 I prefer Korg drums sound, more natural than PSR SX and Genos too synthetic despite the Revo on Genos. If you listen carefully to this demo, you can notice the Pa700 sounds much better in stereo than SX700 which sounds like in a closed box ! Besides, the Pa1000 compared to SX900 is the best choice with theTC Helicon, the midifile to style converter, the Kaoss function more practical, the sampler and especially the aftertouch which is not available on the PSR SX900... shame on Yamaha for not including this function. I used to have a Genos that I had to sell away, I can buy a new keyboard next May. For sure it won't be a Genos, I don't like the electric guitar sounds despite the amp effects which do not make a guitar sound like a real guitar. Korg is better, further more, you can get a very nice guitar pack on a German website with beautiful electric guitar really realistic !!
@@fredvillaume8490 I would recommend you buy PA4X because of deep editing and cheaper than Genos (the 76 key). Kaoss effect feels like you're the DJ but Yamaha doesn't have this features. I love EDM so much. Genos and SX900 are great for EDM, rather than Korg, because the sample from the EDM kit is very real and the EDM synthesizers sound bolder to me than Korg (a bit thin and cheesy). For electric guitar, I use my real electric guitar plug in to my Yamaha PSR S950 and use an amp simulator. It sounds so more real than the built-in sample itself. The distortion sounds more real than the sample IDK. For now, Korg wins at electric guitar, but still, if you play higher notes, the fake is in there. So far so good, the MIDI sampled-electric guitar sounds not as realistic as a real electric guitar. But for drums, yes, korg sounds real to me, but not as punchy as yamaha. I've already test driven the SX700, but only 2 drums are real (real drums and brushes) and the other drums sound like the old PSR series. Genos revo drums sound more punchier and more realistic than SX900. I don't like the rock drum kit on Korg because it is not as punchy as Yamaha's Revo drum (rock drum kit). I wish the Yamaha Genos 2, new Montage/MODX and PSR SX910 the sample new electric guitar and sound more realistic. It's just my opinion and my ear. Everyone is different.

Korg is always Korg. The sound of the Korg is realistic and clarity also so good. I suggest all to take Korg. I am using Korg PA700. We have to customize the keyboard otherwise Korg is nothing
Could anyone please help me with this ? I have been tired of choosing one. Korg pa700 is an old one when compared to SX700 and sx900. Gradually I will have to replace the keyboard I buy now, after a few years when a new one comes. So considering the seniority, is it worth buying ? Or should I go for pa1000 ? My requirement is to create music, record it to USB and release it in my RU-vid channel. Also I will have to play in small scale functions. Using a DAW software is the best option. But if it's a keyboard which one I should choose?
Pa 700... It is old as compared to sx serious but, why we are comparing such a old keyboard with new ones because of its perfomance. Korg has its own speciality go for korg ⚡️
@@MelvinStanly Not a problem brother, people are searching for korg pa 50 models that are older than this and it is discontinued. Good conditional korgs always has resale value. ❤😄
@@gloriapinto4100 Either one you won't regret too, but I do prefer SX900 and no regret, check my channel for the elite cinematic performance on SX900. I have never seen any performance from PA700 or PA1000 with such quality yet. If you found one , please share to me.
@@user-qj8cg1bf5u Yamaha is a joke in front of Korg every musician know that for sure... Yamaha is a multi whatever company they don't know how to sample sounds

@@achamilton Looks like yamaha is not going to replace it very soon, just like what they did for Genos. Maybe the PSR lifespan will be extended to about 7 years+ just like their Electone. Anyway, the Genos released in 2017 until now still no news about Genos2
It seems like every 4 to 5 years a new generation of PSR is launched. The flagship lives a little longer, because it can be milked for quite some time, e.g. the top PSR gets a quarter of the flagship's good voices, the next best PSR gets an eighth, then the next gen top PSR gets half of the voices and so on. And then a new flagshio is released, starting the cycle anew. What's really long-lived are the budget synths like Yamaha S03 and MX61. They just received a little product care (case colour, no new sounds) after 4 years and continued on.
@@clifforddsouza4872 korg does not have 4 banks in any terms. U can select upto 12 sounds a time,by using sts and internal user space. And korg also have a powerful setlist
Set list or song book that's like user storage I,m telling about bank's it's in yamaha that we can store 8 nos. styles and voice along with all other settings into many nos. Of bank's it good feature its not in any korg model if you have send me any videos
@@clifforddsouza4872 why should korg have a user bank It have a performance set list You can select 9 sounds like in Yamaha That's a hidden feature you should know about it
Neither is better I have both and they are just different, not one is better than the other, and they work well together. I will say the speakers on the Korg have the edge. But as I go through a keyboard amp. they are easily balanced. On the Yamaha, the screen gets the edge over the "Gameboy" style Korg. And the Yamaha is easier to fiddle with. In short, I had to read the manual for the Korg, where as the Yamaha was easy to manipulate thanks to the handy dandy Direct access button
Yamaha - Bluetooth , Chord looper , Extra Sub aux port for subwoofer , High quality speakers with small subwoofers , Guitar port , Weight - 11kg, Big touch screen, Soft rubber buttons , 8 registration Memory ,
Yamaha is the best because we can create style very easily and we can use 8 banks and voices are very nice because we can add defrent expansion packs.. so sx 700 have more futures than korg pa 700..
I just sold my Medeli AKX10. it has a wonderful color screen, and a few of their tones are good, but most are only average. Further, you can't control , via midi, the internal arranger features. I want an arranger to be fully "slave-able" to the controller keyboard. The sx700 guitars are to die for. Korg costs 400 more than sx700.
Do you know how to create your own style? Do you know how to edit the voice, applying filter, DSP , EQ and more....... If the answer is Yes, both keyboard will work very well but PA700 will give you more freedom in editing. Otherwise, go for Yamaha due to their built in styles are better and voices better out of the box.
If u find Sound , Choose Korg PA If u find Style , Choose Yamaha SX. But Becareful SX feel like cheaper to PA and it has alot of error. Buy and test if you dont believe .
Conclusion Both are best equal quality...yamaha..is more easy to use..korg has realistic sounds than yamaha...for church's worship in my opinion yamaha is the best...if you are a professional pianist you can buy korg instead of yamaha....its good
Korg sound is rather too dry and raw out of the box and most of the people can't make a good sound from it as close as Yamaha, maybe the real expert can?
The Korg is definitely punchier than the Yamaha. Its bass lines are more pronounced being more suited to the modern style of music. Most modern music is more dynamic in sound which puts the Korg sound well ahead as it is so well suited to this type of music. The choice depends on which type of music you like to play. I like the Korg because it is the Korg sound, and it is not trying to mimic instruments as accurately as the Yamaha.
So you are aware, Yamaha have catered for this using Voice Guide. This feature allows you to touch the screen or a button and a voice will tell you what you have pressed or touched. The selection will only happen when you 'authorise' it by pressing the pedal and re pressing or touching again.
