Yamaha PSR-SX900 VS Korg PA1000 Sounds and Styles Comparison 

Neither Korg nor Yamaha really matter. The person who know how well to play the instrument is what make difference.

Appreciate the fact that you used similar styles to compare the two keyboards unlike many others who don’t do this. Although wish you named the styles. That would be awesome.

I have both of them. They are amazing keyboards. It was hard for me to decide which one is better. So I bought both. Both sound amazing.

It's best to have them both because those two are awesome. If you are a one man band show these two a must have.

Thanks for having used similar styles on both keyboards. I like how Yamaha sounds like. The Korg timbres sounds more simple and less elaborate than Yamaha. Strings and guitar voices on Yamaha are amazing. Just my opinion though.

we can't compare to kings , someone love korg someone love yamaha each keyboard has their own quality i think music is all good no matter about the name of the keyboard

I own both of them and I like both of them. They both sound amazing.

The PSR-SX has more life in the sounds ,especially sax and flute,the styles are also good,both are excellent keyboards,but for me it is SX900 I suppose me saying this,as a Genos owner,I would wouldn't I,I just prefer the overall sound of the Yamaha

The Yamaha sounds way more modern to my ears. Two drawbacks: 1. Way too much reverb is being applied by default to the samples. 2. Some of the samples have been around for decades literally, for instance the tenor and the soprano saxophone. Also it must be noted that on the Korg everything is fully tweakable. Not everyone is aware that there is a fully-fledged synth hiding behind every PA arranger which is certainly a great plus for Korg.

Both are nice, The korg feels like live band, The Yamaha feels like studio.

Well, heck. I watched this video a month ago, and felt very strongly one way. Watched it again tonight, feel strongly the opposite way. I reckon there's not really a wrong choice here, they're just two really good keyboards!

I'm a big Korg fan, and my opinion is: I like the Korg PA1000, because is has this: Easy style creating adjustable screen video output easy recording on the keyboard Adjust brightness That's all I have to explain. Although I have a Pa700, but that is similar. easy to set volume for each sample User style bank names are easy to find.

Yamaha tiene mucha realeza y los últimos sonidos de batería están súper reales. Korg suena muy sintético en sus Styles, claro no en todos se nota pero el gusto se rompe en géneros!!!

Both boards are fantastic. I'd take either. I think the Yamaha has the better drums and bass to go along with its strengths in acoustic instruments. The styles seems so balanced and nicely mixed. The Korg is extremely strong in areas as well. Love the interface, the synth sounds, strings, etc. Both have massive capabilities, so with tweaking and editing/mixing you should be able to do some incredible things.

Great comparison although as arranger keyboards, you also need to think about ease of use and user interface - how easy is it to operate either at home recording or arranging or live when gigging...ease of use and ability to actually operate it is also important - for me the Yamaha seems to offer the best combination of sound quality, versatility and ease of use...

Korg styles sound more realistic and punchy when connected to PA systems . but we would need to accept that Yamaha's grand Pianos are unbeatable !

The applicability and function of those buttons will be left to the preference of the player. No issue into which sound better. When it comes to live jamming and accompaniment, the mastery over the use the adjustments will come into play. 🎹🎼

I like both.

Firstly compliments to the performer. Great job in playing al the different styles and showcasing various musical instrument sounds. Lots of setting up must have been necessary to make this live comparison go so smoothly. Both instruments are superb in their own way. I prefer the piano sounds of the Korg. The guitar of the Yamaha was more to my liking. The flute sounded better on the Korg. The Yamaha would be a better pick for a big hall. Love its brassy big band sounds. The Korg would sound better in a club environment. It had a more warm feeling. They were both superb but if I had to pick one it would be the Korg. EddieB

Hi Jason, both KB's are very fine stuff!! Yamaha sounds a Bit warmer and the Korg charisticle good in their own ways. I would take both of them! Nice vid and good sounds!!

The drums on the SX900 have come straight from the Genos and it shows. Much richer and far more lifelike.

Tube la oportunidad de trabajar con ambos y la verdad para mí 55% Korg y 45% Yamaha. Y si el Yamaha suena mejor cuando está solito con sus bocinas pero conectado al sistema de sonido es más difícil de encontrar esa calidad tan profesional que ofrece el Korg

I agree that the difference between them is really the skill of the person playing it but I personally thought the Yamaha had a slight edge over the Korg in some areas of playing and sound quality. So for me if I had to pick one I would go for the Yamaha.

I played the Yamaha in a music shop yesterday and i found the violin and cello voices to be extremely realistic! Also the various Church organs were very good. The Korg full cathedral organ is also good. I have the Korg, i find the keyboard touch to be difficult to play - it’s too spongy and you need to play on the edge of the keys, or they are hard to press. The Yamaha action is easier to control. I’m a pianist with a grand. Weighted it better of course but i want the keyboard for realistic sounds and sequencing

Korg has more bass sound, yamaha has more treble sound, both are amazings!!!

man, the Korg tones are excellent! but there's no way to beat Yamaha! simply incredible! especially at the level of pianos!!!! too beautiful!

The SX won it for me for sheer usability and the ability to change any sounds to my preferance and save in a few easy steps. Keybed also felt the best on the SX which was a surprise.... Also managed to load the nice CFX Piano. Its a simple case of what works best for you....try them all out with good quality headphones... Next keyboard, in addition to the SX, will be either a CP88 or Roland RD2000 but leaning towards Roland

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT KROG IS THE SCREEN POPS UP MAKES IT EASY TO READ/YAMAHA HAD THAT ON THERE TYROS...

My personal opinion is the Korg sounds a bit muted compared to the Yamaha, the Yamaha sounds a bit crisper to me. I have watched a few comparison vids and it seems to be the case on all of them.

The keybord Yamaha look on the best. If is Just a opinion, the Korg have quality, but preference Yamaha psx 900

Korg pa 1000 we talking real live performance sound and some features on korg pa 1000 which sx900 dont have.. but both.. keys are.. best for one man band..love both.. cheers guys

It’s amazing how they play these songs differently than they really are to keep from getting sued.

Personally i have used both the Keyboards for recording as well as Live band and in my view KORG PA1000 stands out as the best.

When it comes to acoustic sounds like Guitar or Brass/Trumpet, Yamaha is still state of the Art, but KORG managed to get some very modern, innovative Features even in their mid price range instruments, while Yamaha still sticks by it´s old roots. I still prefer rhodes and organs from KORG, they are not sterile and Hi-Fi trimmed as Yamaha did

From my research I conclude that yamaha has definitely the better sounds, but korg has many features and is more customizable.

The Yamaha sound is like a V shape eq (thinner, wider) -------- While the Korg sound is like a Ʌ shape eq (stronger, narrower)

Yamaha is user friendly but korg keyboards are very realistic ,east or west yamaha is the best

Yamaha is bright and more realistic.... Although I would love to know how it's compressor function works.... Yamaha is always good with it's pianos but they somewhat sound very thin when connected to PA systems... Korg on the other hand sounds fantastic when connected to a PA System.... Delivers a good punch and feel...

Yamaha Drum kits Guitar and paino sounds bright and good, Korg other instruments like strings, flute and those kind of instruments are good

Both great keyboards. For someone who wants to play "live" on stage, the Yamaha is easier in use. Korg is great but you need to put in more time to learn the keyboard and learn how to make it your own and how to adapt the voices and styles. Difficult to say which keyboard is better.

Im a fan of Korg and Yamaha keyboard. But with this model, Clearly the psr-sx900 sounds very nice and elegance with style and Voice. thumbs up for yamaha. 👍.

This comment section nearly turned into fanboy wars.. While we can agree that it's all just a matter of taste, preferences and what you actually needed... In fact for example, I prefer the looks and overall sound of Yamaha because it sounds "cleaner & polished" but I have so many bad experiences playing live with Yamaha keyboards because it couldn't cut through the mix in a full band context. Unlike Korg which fits better into the mix when playing with a full band especially for live use. I know that arrangers meant to be played as a one-man band in the first place but I play with a band and I need the features & practicality of Arrangers _(built-in speakers, auto-accompaniment, etc..)_ because I often do silent practice in my bedroom or just bringing my keyboard to jam at the office or outdoor when I'm hanging out with my friends. So I kinda look for the best of both worlds which is an Arranger that also suited for playing live with a band, and Korg wins in a slightly higher position than Yamaha for me in almost all of those contexts. Also despite that, Yamaha looks great, so much cooler looking than Korg which looks somehow outdated. But that's it, I have to choose according to my needs.

Yamaha sounds too sterile. Some instruments do sound better, especially due to more spacious sound (more reverb I guess). Korg sounds warmer and generally more natural, unfiltered, some sounds could use a bit of reverb.

I used SX 900, SX 700 and CK 61 All my keyboard is YAMAHA. I used Korg more than 25 year. Korg good also.. but for nowadays I recommend Yamaha.

É uma questão de gosto e de preferência, qnd está acostumado a tocar em um teclado tudo parece melhor, eu prefiro os teclados da Yamaha, por questão de gosto, mas observando a comparação no vídeo, vc observa o qnt os instrumentos de forma tem evoluído, principalmente a Yamaha que em quesitos de timbres era tipo com instrumentos de brinquedo, e hoje bate de frente com os pa’s da vida!! Parabéns a duas fabricante que melhoram bastante suas devices, falta melhorar o preço!!!

Some Styles of Korg Sound really good, other appear so cheap and like out of a 90s key... But many Do not Know, that you only have to tweak them! Change some Instruments, put in some Effects like reverb or amp Simulations... Dont Know why they are selling their pa series that unfinished?... Not even the pa4x appears to be finished, sometimes like a live Band but not often... Tell me which professionell Soundingenieur Would Master a Band like that?... I Would never buy Korg without knowledge in tweaking... Its not worth the money right out of the Box... That s why many yamaha likers believe in yamaha and love that keys for its finished studio Sound... And Korg is much more complicated, it took me long time to even unterstand the Style play Mode... I come from Roland and yamaha and it s very different and more easy to use...

The professional musical would love it Yamaha PSR series is for home hobby people that styles and sound are tunes to most pleasant and inspiring while playing and create your own with minimal learning time, a professional musician will need a Yamaha friendly DAW software like Cube, Sonar. The similarity to the Yamaha PSR series would be the Suzuki Audya keyboard, the Pegasus keyboard, the Roland arranger keyboard or more editing and tweaking Casio MZ-X500. Pareciera como si a Yamaha lo hubieran ecualizado bajandole medios y medio graves, mientras que Korg se escucha más consistente en esas frecuencias medio graves y medios, eso me gusta en lo personal, pero en los estilos están mejor complementados y tiene más coherencia en las variaciones sobre todo en lo percusivo el Yamaha, últimamente ya no me agrada tanto la ecualización que trae Yamaha pero, solo hay que reforzar esa frecuencia desde 160 hasta los 600 hz. Saludos a todos.

Why is it that around 3:30 that SX900 ShadowGuitar (?) does not play every sound pressed with normal volume?
