96 royal star tour star 1300, went through carbs , total cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner reassembled , had to replace 3 coils for misfire , all air cut offs working correctly, slide diagram’s good , mixture screws set 2 1/2 turns out , still running rich , carb tune sync gauge not up much from bottom at idle , replaced all leaking intake boots for leaking , still got it running rich , have not synced yet , skittle stumped
As always, I learn AND ENJOY your videos. I can use some guidance with my 2005 Royal Star. I rebuilt carbs after sitting awhile. After the job, I have the following: Seems to be rich, but runs well on the road Starts easy, but after idle for 5 minutes, slows and dies Smells like gobs of gasoline, and can sting my eyes I leaned the pilot down to 1 turn out, still starts and runs, might close them completely and see what happens. With the breather and intake off, I see that at idle (1000 rpm), there is a steady stream of fuel flowing into the barrel from the needle jet port. Recall, these are CVC carbs. Is it normal to see fuel coming through the needle jet port at idle? Thanks for any direction here.
I have a 97 royal star and above 1/2 throttle it cuts out. I have them rebuilt, jet kit in it, and all new parts. I have a fuel pump problem that when fixed I hope it takes care of it. Sitting at idle it is perfect and up to half throttle. Spent many days playing with those type of carbs
if the original airbox is gone they do that due to being too lean. larger main and slow jets need to be added to increase fuel supply, or, the std airbox put back on
Thank you, this video is very informative. I have a 2009 model, but for some reason is leaking gas from the left air hose next to the air filter. Do you know what can cause this.
I have an 07 Royal Star Venture. I never had any issues with it other than a smell of fuel after a ride it will smell up the garage. And even after several days I can smell the fuel if I get down near the bike. What could that be? Plus I just got some new large pipes and I am going to have to jet the carb. Would you recommend rebuilding the carbs?
with it being an 07, it is probably due a carb rebuild. One cause of leaking fuel that is common is the crossover fuel supply tubes, they have 2 o-rings on each end and leak as the age hardens them. I have another Royal Star carb rebuild video here on RU-vid that I did for a guy that saw this video, he is in Michigan, I'm in Texas. The float needle seat o-rings go bad, leak fuel as well.
Where ya at in Texas? I've got a 2k7 rstd I let sit for a year and a half doe to some surgeries. Puked up fuel from the overflow. Would like to get my bike running.
96 RSTC sat for about a year before i got it. Been through everything except carbs. Stock air filter, khromewerks pipes. Plugs were a little dark but it had the wrong plugs in it. Only get approx 30mpg before and after plug change. Slight popping from the pipes but not really noticable. Takes off great, runs great, a little black buildup on rear fender but I'm always wiping the bike off. Fires right up at first start-up for the day, but jumping back on acts kind of like it doesn't want to start.I guess i need to rebuild the carbs and resync since it sat?
Yes, if the carbs are gone thru and the sync set, it usually makes everything else fall into place. Popping on deceleration is a little too lean but zero to worry about if you have aftermarket pipes. And will probably continue to pop if you make the carbs and sync perfect. A black fender is probably rich carbs and probably bad o-ring on carb needle seat
@@geezermoto7820 one other question. Would rejetting be worthwhile. I had a Suzuki Savage and when they came from the factory they were basically jetted for a higher elevation (from my understanding-not sure how reliable the source was as it was years ago) and backfired a lot. A rejet helped.
Hey, thanks for your video, is very helpful. Just wondering what you normally charge for a carb job on a 2000 royal star tour delux and your turn around time approx?
@@geezermoto7820 Ok, thanks. I'm reasonably sure that I am buying the bike in the near future but not 100% as of yet and wanted to get an idea of what it would cost to have those done to eliminate that if necessary. I thank you sir for both the video and your quick response. I have the number and will certainly set it up with you if it's something I don't think I can handle. I appreciate the quick response. Stay safe in Texas!
I got a 96 and I just put a rebuild kit in the carbs and I check the floats but when u turn key in gas shots out of the air holes so my ? Is does it have vacuum lines I just got the bike and don’t know anything about it
Hi thanks for your video I have a issue with my 2007 Yamaha venture 1300 every time I don’t use it for a few days I always have a hard time to start it up, it have to run on the full choke at all the time otherwise it would stall, feels like it’s running only on one cylinder for a few minutes soon if I remove this choke it will stall after a moment it would start running normal. I just wondering if you can help me to resolve that problem? Thanks Luc
I have not, it sounds obvious but you just remove things until they will come off, airbox etc.... A Factor service manual will probably tell you each piece of the way
Great video, I am hopng you can shed sme light on my problem 06 royal star, idled nice but only ran on a couple cylinders so I rebult the carbs, got all 4 back took to Yamaha had them sync the carbs but they said that it was running to bad and they could only get them close, they couldnt give me a definite on what my problem is she is spttin ad popping wont idle, next im replacing the intakes it also has a small exhaust leak could that be a contributer, sorry for the story but m on a budget thx for any input
All jets need to be removed and the carb bodies soaked in carb cleaner then blown with compressed air. Then aerosol carb cleaner shot through carb jets and holes from back to verify the slow circuit is open from back to pilot to carb outlet in front portion of carb. I highly suspect carbs are not clean And or float seat o-rings are bad Or slide diaphragms have a hole or are just not installed to where they seal. Blow air through back to verify they work. Re watch my vid, be sure it's all done and you understand it all
@@geezermoto7820 Thank you for your input. I actually did exactly that, i tore the carbs down all the way soaked them in the carb cleaner solution over night washed them with water and blew out all passages, ive been an automotive mechanic for 40 years and im pretty thorough this one is getting he best of me, I am going to try the diaphragms and intakes, Thank you for checking my memory it helps
@@gixxerscoinsandcollecting6684 i always replace the rubber intake manifolds and seal with threebond 1184 These leak and crack No pin holes at all allowed in diaphragms Since you are a very experienced mechanic, i know you know how it is..... everything must be RIGHT or it will not run Check for a sticking choke plunger New spark plugs? They foul easy Etc
@@geezermoto7820 i got new plugs in it already and i like your oring idea from Harbor Freight, Ive gottem 21/2 out now but with each thing t seems to be better, the guy i got it from took the baffles out of the mufflers
@@gixxerscoinsandcollecting6684 I'm semi restoring a 1980 xs1100 It ran like crap with no baffles Had no back pressure so about 2 to 3k rpm it banged out. They need back pressure to run right
I have a 1989 Venture Royal1300 had carbs plugged up went thru them 3 times and cleaned out all ports now I can't get fuel to come thru the main jets, any Ideas, I don't know if the air box matters or not but if I fog the motor with brake clean will rev to the max until I stop spraying
Need to use the airbox and all for it to run properly No fuel from main jet would be floats stuck or not adjusted correctly Be sure you have fuel to the carbs
@@geezermoto7820 I did check fuel level while running and carbs are just over half full which should be enough to accelerate, if I spay brake clean will run great until gone
Hi thank you for your video just bought 2011 yamaha royal star venture and the carbs pops ,the seller told me that he rebuild the carbs ,what you think ?? Can you please advise me
popping is usually a lean condition. If your standard airbox is altered or the exhaust pipes altered, that's your problem. If pipes and airbox are not altered, it may be the rubber intake manifolds are sucking air. The bike is 8 years old, and this is the age when different problems arise with rubber parts, dirt, buildup etc
@@geezermoto7820 I worked on the bike yesterday and I found the sync springs missing i installed tow new and rebuil the carbs and its back to life again thank you very much for your support
I have a 99 and my issue is, when idling, if I turn the throttle fully, wide open throttle, it bogs out and dies, if I turn it half way, then wide open it slowly bogs down then climbs in rpms until tacked out. Any ideas? I’ve cleaned all the jets and still having the issue. Bike sat for over a year
dirty slow circuit meaning carb passages or jets or bad leaking manifolds or a bad slide diaphragm. Split all 4 bodies apart, take all parts off, soak them 2 to 3 hours, rebuild with good kits and replace or reseal the manifolds and she will sing. Ethanol is terrible, I've seen it plug the carbs in as little as 4 to 6 weeks when bike is sitting.
I have a 98 royal star and my carb is leaking gas from the overflow tube and from the bottom of one of the carbs do you think the float is stuck open in that one or could it be a different problem? I replaced the rubber boots underneath the carbs and got a good seal and it only leaks from the carb when i give it gas but it leaks from the overflow the whole time it’s running, any ideas?
yes, need to go thru them, very very common problem you have. put new needles and seats for the floats and new bowl gaskets. I take them apart all the way, soak each body in a 1 gallon carb cleaner such as Berryman B12, get them clear and clean, put kits in them, mainly new needles/seats for floats and new bowl gaskets. Mine here is pressed in seats so all you replace is needles
this one in the video after carbs back on would not start. They had overflowed, put gas into the crankcase, which thins the oil, then you have no compression and wet plugs. input in new oil, new plugs, she started soon as i hit the start button
Awesome thank you so much i already replaced the spark plugs and the bike is running just fine it’s just leaking from one of the carburetors so i think i have to take that one apart and replace the needle or see if it’s stuck
Hi geezer moto it’s me again i was wondering if i can’t figure out my carb leaking if i could send the carb to you and have you look at it and possibly replace anything that’s broken that could be cause it to leak?
Upside down they will lay parallel with the carb body, and you can do it with a fitting and hose from the drain bolt....you can Google how the hose method is done It's the only way to know for sure where the fuel level is
