I've done countless hours of research, and I think this will be my next bike. Congrats on such a great bike!

Randy's cycle in Marengo Illinois has a 2014 with 4500 miles for 10,000. I would have got it but I wanted a new one.

Love it! “It’s new enough to have good features and old enough to be reliable”. I’ll remember that quote. I have a 2016 in king Kenny yellow and I am very happy with it. Time to start the farkles!

I’ve got a 2017 Super Tenere I bought new in 2018. I love the thing so much and it just rolled over 21,000 today. I’ll actually be taking it on a decent little ride in Tellico Plains next weekend.

Thanks for posting this first impression ride! I bought a 2015 Super Tenere ES 8 months ago. I've ridden about 12,000 miles so far, loving the bike. Real range on mine is about 220 miles. Custom seat to fix the forward slant and highway pegs makes 10 hour rides pretty comfy.
@keithert
@keithert 2 года назад
I have tried several seats. I recently switched to a Seat Concepts which seems good. What brand of highway pegs did you use? I have some Kuryakyn Cruiser pegs. They work but don't look right. I might switch to trex ones.

@@keithert Rich's custom seat made just for my big self and cheap Ebay pegs that I tapped into the crash bars to mount securely. I tried several pegs that wouldn't stay put in use, bolted the cheapest pair in place, solved that. They are ugly.

I just bought a pristine 2015 S10 ES today and have logged a whopping 1/4 mile. It feels wholly different from my FJR. Although the S10 is lighter, physically, it feels HUGE. I’m looking forward to getting to know the bike over the next few days.

Last night, I traded my Tracer GT for a 2020 ES. I was also looking at the FJR but couldn't find one within 600 miles! Ended up finding this bike 30 miles away and am loving it so far. What a totally different ride!

Wanted an ST but bought a T7 in order to avoid the big payment. Love the T7 BUT, am focused on paying it off as quickly as possible so that I can go ahead and get a used ST. I know you’ve had yours for quite awhile but I still say Congrats!

The S10 is working out well. I have it almost fully accessorized now. In the future I may look into an ECU Flash, but it isn't 100% necessary.

Great video. I picked up a new 2020 a few weeks ago and just finished the break-in, very impressed with it. I added the high windshield and wind deflectors and with the low seat setting there is zero buffeting. Fuel range is a good guide by not very accurate with a bit of a wind...although when it says you are almost empty there is still another gallon in the tank (based on fill up on empty). GPS mounts easy on bar and I hard-wired off the auxiliary plug (easy connect underneath).

@keithert 3 года назад
I am 300 miles into the break-in. Can't wait until I can rev it past 3800. With an extender on the stock windshield the wind flow is fine. I am not liking the seat at all. Considering various options but none seem ideal. I am missing my 2011 V-Strom.
@cdnadventurer6028
@cdnadventurer6028 3 года назад
Wasn’t too sure about the seat either at the start. Went for a 400 mile ride this week and it was fine (better than expected), maybe just needs to be broken in. My last bike was a 2015 VStrom (also had a 2010 and 2008). In my opinion the new Super Tenere is more comfortable off the showroom floor now that I’ve spent some time on it.

@@keithert I'm retired am riding my V-strom650 daily but thinking a Super Tenere would be better?
@keithert
@keithert 3 года назад
@@got_to_roll I had a 2011 V-Strom with 32,000 miles. It ran good but was starting to feel old. Truthfully I kind of wish I had just put some money into fixing it up. It was more comfortable than the Tenere is and was set up perfectly for me. In time I will get the Tenere set up with all the farkles but I'm kind of missing the Vstrom now.
@cdnadventurer6028

I had a chance to take my old 650 V-Storm for a ride a few weeks ago (sold it to a friend and he was trying out my new Super Tenere), and there was really no comparison. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked my V-Storms (in my opinion they are the best bang for the buck for that style of bike), but between the shaft drive, extra hp, better wind protection, electronic cruise, and stability on the road the STenere is so much better. I’ve got some long trips planned and glad I made the switch (BTW, I also had a BMW 1150GSA which I really liked, but for an almost double new price over the STenere...not worth it for me, I think I have the best of both in the STenere).

I did the flat seat mod on mine a google will show you a video on how to do it. I also have a Airhawk seat cushion which I put almost no air in. These 2 mods work very well for me. What you may think is the ambient air temperature is in fact the air temp in the air box. This is a pretty useless piece of info. The “Range” info is very inaccurate. I now have 138,000 kms on mine and it has proven to be very reliable. I almost never use Cruise Control in Mexico, where I live, but find it very useful in the USA and Canada to avoid speeding.

Just watched your other review of the Suzuki DL1050XT. What made you decide for the Super Ténéré rather than the V-Strom? - I'd prefer the Suzuki over the Yamaha though.
@keithert
@keithert 3 года назад
I looked at several adventure bikes from every adventure bike available. The Yamaha has shaft drive, cruise control and a great reputation. The Vstrom 1050 has a very small flat seat. It didn't seem like to would be comfortable and there aren't many aftermarket alternatives. I like the Super Tenere but I'm having some comfort issues with it. I actually miss my Vstrom 650.

@@keithert - Hey Keith, thanks for your answer. I sat on the Ténéré 1200 the other day and also had some issues with the seating position, wouldn't have believed it before. I'm 1,88m/6'2'. Think the V-Strom 1050 is a more active driving and can do almost everything. Wish you a lot of fun with your new motorcycle.

@@keithert what kind of comfort issues are you having? I ask because I have had my 2017 Super Tenere for about 2 1/2 years, bought it brand new. I have done some modifications and have it just like I want it now. I just finished a 3500 mile 10 day trip with no comfort issues whatsoever so I may be able to help with some modification suggestions for the issues you are having.

@@robolive123 I'm getting used to it but still searching for a seat I like. with the flat seat mod the stock is okay but not great. I have a Sargent on order. I think part of my issue is the width of the handlebars but I would rather not change them if possible. I'm worried about causing issues with the heated grips. I was getting bad back pain when I would ride the bike. that is happening to a much lesser degree now.
@robolive123
@robolive123 3 года назад
@@keithert I went with the Sargent seat myself and like it. Only issue with it is that it is a bit slippery but that hasn’t proved to be much of a problem at all. I did also add an Airhawk cushion that I put very little air in but makes a big difference on long rides day after day. I have fairly long arms so the wide handlebars don’t bother me in the least. Again, I just did a 10 day ride where we averaged over 300 miles per day with no shoulder or back pain, and I have had back surgery a few years ago so I’m always worried about that. The wide handlebars seem to be common on all big adventure bikes but I am sure you could replace them if you wanted to. Also I’m guessing that it would have no impact on the heated grips if they were reinstalled correctly. Don’t know how many miles you have on it so far or what bike you came off of before the Tenere but the beauty of the wide bars is the leverage they give you that makes it so easy to ride the bike on and off road in my opinion. Hopefully you’ll get used to them. Overall the bike is terrific, people ask about why not this bike or why not that bike instead, to me it boils down to Yamaha reliability and shaft drive. Shaft drive is so important to me at this point in my life after having so many bikes with chains that I think the only competition for this bike is the BMW GS, and it costs WAY more money.

On my short list if I go bike shopping. I think I'd buy a used bike. I hate break in riding and I figure I would get the mods the previous owner used and still have lots of life in the bike.
@keithert
@keithert 3 года назад
Break in wasn't too bad. This bike has enough power below 4000 rpm that it wasn't terrible. Breaking in a Royal Enfield Himalayan would be painful. You can't even go above 50 mph and stay in break in rpm.
