I have purchased myself a TT 350 1988 that was last registered in 1994 and intend get it re registered for the roads here in New Zealand. I'll be following your project with great interest.
Great change of direction for the channel. I bought an old kick start WR, with idea of doing the same, but limited spare spare part availibility, my lack of knowledge and expensive parts made it a non-starter - LITERALLY! However, best of luck with your project and I will watch it with interest and still stays with lightweight adventure theme.
Love a project. Good time for it too with the days getting darker and colder. Have you got a good blow torch for heating stuck bolts etc? An impact screwdriver saved the bolts on my DRZ carb too.
Hey Adam, yeah, I have all of the tools. Knowledge might be limited, but I have tools 👌🏻. Need to pick up a workshop manual soon though, that might prove useful.
I have an 83 TT600K that's I've been bringing back to life UFO rear side panels,Clarke tank in black, fork boots, a headlight out of Italy, timing chain, XT stator, rotor(12V upgrade for us in the states)cdi, coil, Vreg, chain, sprockets, brake shoes, wheel bearings, headstock bearings, wiesco rings, Vinton vavle seals, valve guides, valve grind, and she runs like a top
I had a ttr600e, by far the best bike I've ever owned. Only got rid due to attempted theft and storage issues. Now replaced by a crf250l, as close as you can get in every respect, its just lacking a few horses.
The Acerbis tank you spoke of is a couple of hundred quid but given what you are trying to achieve it's probably where the money would be best spent and it adds capacity and safety of that old knacker.
Hey, yeah, you're most likely right, but not straight away. If the motor runs snd doesn't need extensive work, then I'll catch the new tank when I go through the rest of the bike. At the moment, I just need to hold fuel to see if its all worth it 👍🏻
Now this will be my kind of video series! I’ll be watching each week with interest. Your efforts will sit nicely alongside Michael Waller (Britannia Motorcycles) trials bike build videos. I’m trying to get a (very small) bike for my own build. Will we see the renewed machine at the next LWA Rally in 2023? Les
Hi Les, I hope it lives up to expectations now 😅. Time and energy will no doubt be big players in this rebuild, but so will sourcing hard to find spares. The expectation is it will be at LWA Fest 2023 😎
Hey Troy, I refurbished the carbs got the motor running. It's now stripped down to its frame. I need to get back out and rebuild it, but it's all time I don't have at the moment 🤦🏻♂️. I'll get there 😅
Even today this bike will do as much as any brand new water cooled or air cooled single cylinder bikes today that ole thumper will walk strait up a brick wall 🧱 😂per say lol but they literally will climb the steepest of step hills /mountain and rugged terrain they are pretty much bullet proof bikes as long as you keep good clean oil in then regularly she will last another 40 years like she has come from so far that in its self shows you they were very reliable bikes and almost to much power 😂or let's just say more than enough power for pavement or off road or desert 🏜 riding but if one goes to such an exstream he may want a big desert gas tank yes they 😂lol are ugly looking gas tanks but you would be great fool to have one in the case of supper long distance as I say my 1989 xt 600 is a massive game changer when it comes to big bore thumper bikes I have a super trap exsust I love it my bike has 3,800 miles lol not even broke in yet 😂but yes when I let off the throttle you can just hear that compression back pressure thru the exsust pipe massive torque and down shifting from the highest gear down to 4th gear just one gear down the bike slow way down because of massive compression I will keep my bike for ever as long as I'm alive I'm 59 years old so my bike motor and transmission should last other 45 years well boys happy riding stay safe and always keep your eyes 👀 peeled when riding for your safety
