Today we will be digging into the Top End on the 1983 Yamaha Virago 500. This v-twin motor can be complicated so follow these instructions when tearing into your own Virago. Some special tools are required. Check the links below.

This video was extremely helpful on my first engine rebuild of a 83' 500 virago. Clear, simple and well done. I cant seem to find new rings, you mention you would change yours. any chance you know where to get replacements? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Great!! Glad it helped. Have you checked wiseco or pro x for the rings? Check part # 22U-11610-00-00 sometimes, as you know, these older bikes can be hard to get parts for. Thanks for watching.

Have a 2020 ttr 50 and won't start. Just put a brand new battery and nothing. No click , no sound. Nothing. Appreciate it , if you have any suggestions. Just found your channel. Thanks.

Make sure your battery is fully charged. Sometimes a new battery won't come charged. Also check the fuse that comes off of the battery. Let me know what you find. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the vids. I have a ttr 50 that won't start. It's a 2020. Just put a brand new battery in and nothing , not even a click. Any suggestions. Thanks. Appreciate it

Make sure your key is on and your Left hand switch (on/off/on) button is in the run or ON position. Make sure battery terminals are tight. Next I'd just jump the starter relay and see if it turns over. If it does then you either have a switch or a relay issue. If it doesn't then I have a couple other things to check. Let me know. Hello I have an oil leak from what I believe is the head gasket in rear cylinder. Should I replace valves and seals since I'm going to pull the motor. What are your thoughts. Has 13k miles.

Hey there just came across ur videos and I'm loving how indepth everything is. I currently have a virago xv500 that I'm converting into a cafe racer. But the engine keeps bogging down and doesn't give me any power and stalls. It's becoming a pain in the arse now so I'm thinking to ditch the 500 motor and swap it with a 750. Will the frame be able to handle the 750 after a few adjustments to the mounting points? And can it be done? Ur input would mean a lot. Thanks brother hope u can get back to me

Hey man I’ve got a 500 too that I converted to a cafe racer. Runs ok but I actually have a similar issue. I think the first bet would be to check your valve clearances first, and check your timing. (If you haven’t already, make sure your carburetors are tuned as well). It seems like this is a fairly common issue with this bike, at least from what I’ve read on the forums. I’m pretty sure the 500 and 750 frames are very different. The angle of the cylinders is different I think, which would result in different engine mounting points. Let me know if you figured out your issue, or if you swapped to the 750 and how it worked!
