Not really interested. But thanks , I’ll pass . And pass again & keep on passing as the battery runs lower & lower, And lower ……. The Idea is refreshing to speculate , but the Harsh reality is the technology just isn’t here yet . Maybe some day ….
Really like the video, glad to see motorcycle conversion kits that could salvage a few old but trues a new life. I have been threatening to do an Electric mini bike and have something, kinda sorts mini bike with a 1000 watt direct drive system. that ride looked fun, I could see the difference from the Suron videos I have seen. they are much light and are springing around alot, and the way your ride dug it and owned the trail, real sure footed. Can't wait for marketing of the system, But will it only be for one type of bike or more universal for different makes and models?
I’m a huge noise guy for a bike! But this is incredible for those days you wanna rip or hit a field where nobody is gonna call the police on you. Especially where I am
I still remember going to watch supercross when I was young and there would only be a couple 4 stroke bikes racing in the pack. They would sound so different compared to all the 2 strokes. Kinda funny how much things have changed since then.
I Own one of those ‘99 Yamaha WR-400 f’s Best Damn bike I have ever had . Over 23 years old now & STILL RIPS , I take good care of my bikes, but this one in particular always gets me grinning ear to ear whenever I throw a leg over it & go for a ride . PLUS it’s got a Baja Designs street legal kit on it and I can ride it anywhere, and I Do mean ANYWHERE!! 😎👍😉
@@jaycevessier7554 I thought so too . I still have my ‘77 RD-400 & my ‘85 Yamaha Tri-Z -250 3 wheeler and am original owner of both ! But one ride almost 23 years ago now convinced me Yamaha was onto something big with these 4-stroke beasts . As I have said my WR-400f is one of the best bikes I’ve ever owned . Also love my ‘99 R6…. I’ve had it up to a clocked 162 mph!! I enjoy my Yamaha addiction . Ride on , 2 or 4 strokes , as long as it’s fast & hauls ass . 👍
That battery design is pretty much exactly what I thought of as a industry standard so you could have charge stations at petrol stations that have charged batteries ready to go & you just swap them over. It would even be quicker than refueling.
I've been riding and racing Yamahas before they had 'YZs"!!!!Both in the dirt and street.(district 38) (Willow spring's) grew up in the Coachella Valley, where you are at sea level, three to five years, zero precipitation. Perfect riding conditions. We all rode 'open class' motorcycles.(over 400cc bikes) My old desert sled was a RD-400, stuffed into a YZ-465 chassis!! Yeah buddy!! I am a two-strokeaholic, and proud of it. This YZ-Wistler sounds like a over-sexed golf cart. But I would imagine, a few playing cards in the spokes might help!!!😆😅😂🤣 The smell of pre-mix in the morning, reminds me of victory ✌️😎👍
The thing that appeals to me so much is that we can have fun without the noise that draws attention, then losing the ability to go to a particular place, that instant torque must be nice.
These conversions are so sick. Love the idea of doing this in general, as all the power train type stuff can be bought for multiple different things. Something a lot of people can do on their own, unlike gas bikes, that require a little more mechanical knowledge.
I doubt this conversion is all that easy and you will need some mechanical know how. Most people who ride dirtbikes end up learning how to repair them on a basic level and doesn't take much to learn the rest of it.
The XEMX1 is the most raceable E-Moto in the off-road world. You may have seen all the hype for the Stark Varg but have you ever seen one?, or has it ever finished a race? The XEMX1 has. It is currently winning in Florida Hare Scrambles and was 39th OA out of 595 Amateur riders on Sat. TKO Tennessee Knock Out Hard Enduro and the only E-Moto to finish that race. Its is Kinda easy to put an electric motor in a bike frame and have it go down the road. It not easy to make it raceable against the current well refined generation of off-road ICE bikes. XEMX is developing not only a great race bike but a great Electric race bike. Not because of global needs but because there are some new capabilities that a E-Moto can do that an ICE can’t. The current push on Electric vehicles is also driving more battery and programmers development that XEMX is taking advantage of. It may not be for everyone but it is interesting to see how far the development can go.
Yoo it's awesome to see how far electric enduro bikes are getting! I live in the Netherlands where you can't really do much offroad without bothering someone. If I had a bike like that I could just rip it offroad and no one would bmeven be aware of me riding.
people would still report you - dont be fooled, if they see you they will still grass you up - it isnt about noise. its about shitheads who hate us for what we do
@@chadcampbell1586 84V 4KW Samsung battery for $3295.00 and the kit is $7000.00 battery not included in the kit, sold separately... Scum bag... The seller not you.
Being able to ride anywhere seems like a big plus. I do look forward to seeing the bugs worked out. I also would like to see tests on a MX and SX track. Thanks for the video. PS: If somebody blows their ICE motor, this might be a viable alternative, when the price goes down.
@@UncleSarkis I've never smoked but that sounds like a good analogy. Of course, I didn't mean it literally. Though, a good example, even if you own some land, but have nearby neighbors, they can complain about the loud sounds from an ICE dirt bikes and prevent you from riding on your private land (this happened to my brother). Also, some off-road vehicle parks will not let you ride a closed course (race) ICE bike on them, etc. In last weekend's SX race, many people left before the main events because of the build-up of gas fumes in the stadium. It was making hard for some to breath and causing their eyes to hurt.
@@jedielder7970 I never smoked either, but soon people who build or buy new homes built near MX tracks will complain about the dust, the environmentalist will complain that quiet electric bikes don't give certain animals enough time to react and get out of the way, and they're still disrupting the land and dirt, etc. etc. Electric bikes definitely seem like a neat idea, but I can't give up the feeling of an MX ICE bike.
You still have to ride in designated areas. If you decide to ride in illegal spots and someone witnesses you, the cops will get called. EV doesn't change that fact. The price most likely won't be going down for a long time as they have to recoup their costs which are probably fairly high right now.
That's awesome, and I believe these conversion kits will take over in the Ebike world..but..not at that price point. That's over $10k without the doner bike. If you want a second battery, add $3500. I'll be waiting for the cost of some of these parts to come down. I understand there is a lot of R&R but that doesn't make it any more affordable.
Even though I have no desire to own an electric dirt bike, this is the best idea I’ve seen yet. The other electric bikes are just not proven moto bikes
Thanks, We designed the bike for Races longer than one battery will last. Shawn Clark recently won a race, on the new XE4, against all Ice bikes with fastest swap of eight seconds.
I watched you guys at the FTR races. I remember being at the DDR HS and was in the pits watching you guys swapped the battery out . Great job! Croom looked good!
Looks awesome. Unfortunately, the only conversion I'm really focused on is how many working Yamaha bikes I could buy for the equivalent cost of one Yamaha and $11K kit with quick swap battery, charger, programmer and seat. I'm thinking at least 4 used Yamahas in excellent condition at $3K each.
First things I wonder about: how long can you ride on a charge, how long does it take to charge the battery, how much does the bike weigh, power wise does it compare to a 250cc 4 stroke or 300cc, etc. Wish that summary was in the video, like at the beginning or end?
@@nickolaivuicich4105 perhaps. For ebikes/scooters pushing 1500 watts, full power is around half of eco range. For something like this, probably around a quarter.
As far as the technical bugs which will no doubtably be resolved, this looks awesome! That said it also looks like you’ll be spending $11,000-ish on top of the donor bike. I suppose for me I’d probably go for KTM‘s offering.
Control setup... Replace the shifter with a Regenerative control so you can "down shift" going down hills, and then "up shift" to have it flowy on corners and fast stuff. Keep the power level as a switch on the bars. Braking setup like a MT bike. I don't think you need a clutch anymore.
I don't see this ever replacing two or four stoke bikes, especially at the cost of it, but the doors of opportunity that could be opened for riding in those places where you legally can't!
The 10 second battery swap is probably the most important saftey feature of any electric bike. If there is a battery fire, you can make it a battery fire, rather than a bike fire.
(2 questions) 1st question: In the beginning of the video, he forward and reverse. Does that mean it has reverse? 2nd question: What's the curb weight?
Watching this being ridden in real time, I would have crashed into 4,000 trees. I'd never be able to ride it this fast and see the track accurately. Am here for these powerful fast AC bikes
If they can keep prices a bit lower than currently projected, I could see this being a pretty cool product. Unfortunately at those prices you can almost get a varg and keep your 250f combustion. Still cool concept
This has literally (not an expression) been a dream of mine since the mid 80s. As a kid who grew-up on horse farms in awesome offroad country, I rode trails for years and years on horses, ski-doos and of course, dirtbikes. I always thought it would be awesome to be as quiet as on a horse on a smooth, tight bike that makes no squeaks, rattles etc.... during moderate-sporty trail riding. One of these with belt drive would be even quieter (but I don't know about a belt off-road). The reason? Ever ride a horse on a peaceful, long hack on a quiet trail and a pack of two-strokes comes screaming-up to you?
My Sondors Metacycle: Well, when it worked I didn’t like it much. I’m 80 and other than chasing my Pekingese I don’t ride in the dirt anymore. It’s now a BRICK! So I’m now going figure out what electric motorcycle is next. I’m thinking about the Zero FXE. I currently have a 72 Volt SurRon…WHICH WORKS! It’s fun but I don’t ride it like it should be ridden, trying to preserve these old bones.
Modern 450s are way overpowered for the average rider. Eli Tomac wishes the manufacturers would start making a 350F so it would be fun again. Josh Hill said the same thing. They are just on for the ride and trying to stay on the bike. They also say supercross tracks are just not big enough for modern 450s and that a 350 class would make it easier to jump for 250 riders rather than moving up to 450s. There would be fewer injuries and deaths too. When riding trails all my buddies are out of control on 450s and can't keep up with my 250 because they are fighting to stay on.
Everything you said was bible. I remember when Yamaha made the 400, then changed to the 450 and I was thinkin.."geez, are people complaining there isn't enough power..?"
I miss the 125 class. Skill is a bigger factor on smaller bikes and it's much more fun to watch. I remember the 85 and super mini classes being some of the best races to watch when I used to go to the track a lot.
Just for the fact you are pretty much stealth i love it. Where i used to live the cops would be called on me for riding in the woods. Not fast or anything bad. Jus crawling pretty much. Hell with this bike you could never even tell i was in the woods. These will take awhile to come around. Once cost comes down then this will be the new norm folks
wow i gotta get me one of these,,i got some kind of ear issues going on and riding 2 stroke gas motors is just not an option for me anymore but these are so quiet i'll be able to enjoy dirt bike riding again without the troublesome noise..im so excited for the future of electric dirt bikes
The future in cars is electric but man I can't do an electric dirt bike I just can't I need to hear that 4 stroke or 2 stroke sound and smell that exhaust!
Imma two stroke guy for life. But I have a 450 also. An electric bike. I wouldn’t know how to act on a quiet ass bike. But it’s a new era and you have to adjust
I’m at the ‘infancy’ stage of exploring buying a frame with valid / clean VIN, and attempting DIY. Obstacles: because eBikes are still New, unclear as to process/possibility of street legal Dual Sport; and, I’m not necessarily electrically inclined (I can Fabricate w/o issue UNTIL anything electrical comes to play). These vids do Inspire ! 🤓
Great job on the video folks! Thanks for making it. At that price point, I shouldn't have to "learn how to ride it". I hope they solve the cut-off problem and drop that price, because I love how electric conversion kits can breathe new life into run down old chassis.
FEELS LIKE A YZ250 SO WHAT DO THEY DO THEY MAKE THIS CRAP I GOT TO GO CLEAN UP I JUST PUKED ALL OVER MYSELF I CAN'T BELIEVE ANYBODY WOULD SUPPORT THIS SHIT
Probably going to see alot more urban and vacant land in suburbs riding due to these. Might end up with a new genre of riding kinda like urban dh mountain biking
There will be a market for electric bike parks, both in the countryside and in town. I have a Surron and I don’t get bothered by anyone apart from die hard traditional trials bikes types, who wouldn’t let me ride it at their ground, even though I was riding trials (at my level, which is very much learner!).
Not worried about the cut outs. Easily remedied, but I was a Yamaha guy since the 1970s. I went to Honda after their aluminium frames. Got so sick of lying beside my bike looking st the sky. They will not turn. So sad. Why can Suzuki do it while Yamaha cannot. Still have the two stroke yzs but wont go near the four strokes.
Gawwwdamnit Never clicked on a video so fast but closed it once you said converted. That’s big money to get a Yamaha and then convert. For ducks sake Yamaha, just take a damn YZ85 and YZ125 frame and stuff in some crazy electric goodies. Give it some ride modes. Maybe add the choice of 2 stroke and 4 stroke noises. I only say this because I’ve had bikes cross the trail I’m hauling ass up because they can’t hear me.
They are apparently running a high pole motor and the ESC processor can't maintain timing a 32-bit processor with fuzzy logic and programmable settings would be advantageous to tuning that motor combination.. .
I seen somebody with one of these driving through Rio Vista one day. Looked exactly like that one dirt bike magazine test ride one from a few years back
These would be great for enduro competitions. Just setup the stops for a quick battery change and mouthful of water. I used to ride a kawasaki kxf 450 petrol enduro bike and it was exhausting 😊😊
Companies should look into getting some sound engineers to make it sound less whiny. The electric bikes in tron sounded cool, if not I guess a ton can in the wheel should work.
On the right path, interchangeable batteries, and less energy loss/ used with a clutch that would give a more at home feeling. Constant power may be able to be reduced to a smaller motor with help of a flywheel and gears.
Did he say these don't feel like full size dirt bikes but it does feel just like a YZ250f? Isn't that an oxy moron?? A YZ250f is a full sized dirt bike in my opinion
Very nice video review and super interesting product. However, some important stats are absent: 1) what was the before and after weight of the bike conversion? and 2) how many minutes were you able to ride like that on the 4.3kWh battery? Also interesting would be how far were you able to ride at a moderate pace on logging roads? Without that kind of basic data, it kind of feels like you are lying by omission.
