Yamaha XV1100 Conversion: Episode 4 R6 Fork Conversion 

Hi, It’s now too low for the side stand. I did think about bending the bracket, but I managed to find another side stand from a breaker and plan to cut out an inch and re-weld to have it lean enough. My apologies that it’s slow going. Once summer comes around between work and everything else the time just goes. (Ok, and a bit of riding too!) I’ll see what I can do. Good luck with the conversion. It should be sweet with the ST1050 front end. I expect that will be better sprung for the extra weight. I expect I may need some firmer springs for the R6 fork but we shall see. Cheers,

I can only apologise. I hope it works out ok. Sounds like a great project! RD400 crossed with a Gixxer 😁. Unfortunately I’m not making much progress on mine. Too many other things to do. I’ll get to it one day.

Hi, just saw your question. Apologies. The Giant Corkscrew Thing is a ‘headset press’ or a bearing or cup press. It’s perfect if you have a stripped frame with no tank, but it does snag on the frame a bit, so I’d suggest trying a threaded rod first. Two thick steel washers larger than the headset and a couple of nylon washers the same size to protect the bearings. The benefit of that is that if you don’t have the tank clearance, you can always use a deep socket or extension. Good luck!

Hi, you’re welcome. I have some rear sets, but not from an R6. I was planning on fixing them to the pillion brackets, at least initially, to see how that fitted with the subframe and tank. If too high, I’ll look to get some others or for a different mounting point. Next up is probably cutting and re-welding the side stand so I can leave it safely in the garage, but now the weather’s getting nicer it’s finding the time. It will be along shortly!

Aha, apologies. Not at this time. I had a brief look at doing a bigger conversion but decided to start with a twinshock and see how I get on. Is it possible to convert an R6 rear wheel to a shaft drive? I’d be interested to know how, but I suspect that’ll be V2! I do have a spoked rear wheel, so was thinking about replacing the front with a spoked wheel too. That said, I’m doing this on a budget and £1000 for a wheel and new discs isn’t on the list yet.
