Sounds great! I don’t know if you sold that horn or not, but I’d be surprised if it’s still in inventory. Metal thumb rest makes my right thumb tinge. That lacquer finish (unique to the Atelier?) is epic. You kept dinging your ring on it, which is a problem I just discovered having picked up my horn again after so many years since I got married. :)
I think most Yammie buyers want to preform. Are or will be in a band of some kind/genre of music. So they need a horn that can cut through the other instruments when needed. So a sax that is considered "bright" (along with a "bright/loud" mouthpiece/reed combo) would be used. I'd love to have heard the 82Z or even the 875EX with a dark mouthpiece. (e.g. Theo Wanne Ambika, Jody Jazz DV NY...). A range of mouthpieces. See if you can't use/enjoy a Yamaha sax playing all types of music. For a crowd or just ourselves....where you'd probably want to use a "dark sounding" mouthpiece. Since you no longer need to "cut through" other band members or project...
I have an unlacquered 82z alto however it’s the first generation and came with a G1 neck. haven’t had the chance to try out a v1 neck but I will upgrade if I feel the difference is worth it.
That sounds like it's a way more lively and responsive tenor than my buffet 400 tenor. I'm starting to think my horn is just extra dark for a tenor. I've tried a pile of mouthpieces and reed combinations, and I just never really get a sound like that out of it. First tenor I've played though...maybe I need 10 years on it before I do something about it.
The Buffet 400 is a darker sound for sure. I owned an alto and found it to be sort of "dead" sounding. I replaced it with a Yamaha 82Z unlacquered and haven't looked back.
I would have loved to do a comparison with that, but this sold immediately after this recording, and we haven't been able to get another one yet. If we do, that would be a good video!
@@schmittmusicsaxophoneshop4451 Thanks for your reply. How about you blow/record the normal gold lacquer 82z with the same set up, and edit that video in between this video?
I'd say it's more focused, and this particular Z still keeps some darkness to it. My Series III is a bit more spread and I can get a little louder on it, but I'd say the Z Atelier is actually more like a vintage Selmer in a lot of ways.
