This guy needs to blow up, his videos are very descriptive and actually teaches you stuff while still having a joke here and there. Definitely subscribing to this legend. Came to watch how to repack a 2 stroke silencer now on my 5th video. Definitely deserves more followers for how much effort be much put in these videos.

My small valves won’t open all the way, I’ve flipped the shaft around and tried to adjust play but it just won’t open. I don’t know what’s wrong. Both small valves will go until the small curve in the lift pin guide but won’t go past the curve part? Any ideas?

Alot of the mechanical videos try their best to show how to do something, but they sometimes miss a step or they have done it so long, that they can't think like a person that is new to the subject. This guy is one of the best in the world in my opinion. I own a YZ250 and this guy has saved me thousands (Plural). from top end rebuild to carb rebuild to understanding the hows and whys. Even the small shortcuts, like pre assembling the link lever with the 2 springs, saving you a master headache later during re assembly of the power valve .. Incredible , I bet dirt bike mechanics lose business cause of how good this guy is lol. If I had is address I'd send him a Christmas card.

I just fixed my 2003 yz250 power valve just minutes ago from using this instructional video. It all started when I removed the cover from the power valve assembly. I discovered one of the link rod's screws had came out - and somehow its threads were chewed up(?). And the washer? It had migrated down the passageway to the outer end of smaller power valve - LOL, standing up on edge, looking like it belonged there.... Cleaned all items, added some oil to all parts, put it back together with two fresh screws, secured with blue loctite. Yeah, a real-world fix. So truly, thank you again.

Jeez man ,thanks very much .Your comments carry a lot of weight because you actually understand what it takes to wear all of the hats required to play the RU-vid game. It makes me ask the question, why do we put the time and effort into making video's .I'm legitimately curious to hear your answer. You have a lot of subs and what looks to be a growing channel. What is your motivation? What's the end goal?
@linksgarage1985
@linksgarage1985 Год назад
@@TRyanLearnBikes appreciate that.! To answer your question it’s 2 parts. 1. I always searched RU-vid when I needed help. I would find a video that seemed to cover all bases. And then when I got in to the job, I found out all the hard parts were skipped. Or actual angles that were helpful were not shown. I hated they made it look easy when it was actually not. So I wanted real information. I wanted to show someone what it actually took to accomplish a job from start to finish. All parts. Hard parts included. Real truth. 2. I love it. I always wanted to be an actor as a kid. Now I get to write, star, produce and create all my own stuff. Whatever I want. Guns, cars, family stuff, bikes, whatever I want. My way. I film family vacations, put them on RU-vid, and set them to private so they can be watched forever. It’s an opportunity to capture and catalog memories for a lifetime. So one day my kids can look back, and say “That was my dad”. I wish my father had filmed his crazy adventures. And his over 100 cars and over 70 motorcycles he owned. I’d love to see it. I know that was long winded. But that’s a short summary. 💪🏼

@Link’s Garage Your words resonate with me 100%. Part 1 , precisely, help other people with videos that show the whole process, no crap ,no making it look easy when it's not , no important stuff missing, just facts with views you can actually see . Part 2 .This is where the heart of it resides. Those private videos capturing memories for your kids .You figured out a brilliant way to capture and store moments and memories on youtubes dime .A free library your kids ,grandkids and future generations can access .No more lost photos in shoeboxes that fade over time .We think alike .I've done the same thing . Your dad sounds like an amazing guy. Hopefully you have at least a few faded photos in some old shoe boxes of some of his bikes and cars and adventures. One thing is for sure ..you're a good man.

Hey Lee it sounds like you've got it set up right .There is bit of a lag in timing between the main valve and the two side valves and a noticeable increase in tension when fully open .As long as everyting moves freely without any notchey stiffness you should be good to go . If you get a chance keep me posted when you get it all put back together and running I'd be curious to hear how great your bike is running after you go for the first ride .Good luck ahead I'm sure it will run beautifully . @@leelafarlett3535

From an old timer with engineering degrees and engine building/modifying experience, starting to ride again, you do a very good vid. I have a question you may know the answer to. With a stock motor now, I am planning on doing some easy mods to the engine for quite a bit more low end power for my trail riding. Among those mods I want to lower the cylinder .5mm, (no cylinder base gasket, used a good gasket sealer. I think the stock gasket is .5mm), so I am wondering if there is any linkage "actuating rod", (somewhere between the governor and the valve shaft), adjustment needed, or built in the linkage to do so. I think I would like the valves to open at the same rpm, and I can't remember if I even bothered with earlier bikes, (I have lowered the cylinder on earlier bikes that had power valves,---a long time ago.). Thank you. Doug in Michigan
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 10 месяцев назад
Hey Doug that is a really good question .I don't see an option to adjust anywhere in the linkage .But this question must have come up with someone else doing a similar modification .I will be heading to a fantastic bike shop this week .I'm good friends with the mechanics on site and will pose that question to them .If anyone knows the right answer ,its these guys ,they have decades of old school experience .If they can give us any solid intel on this question I will certainly let you know what they say .Thanks very much for watching and taking the time to comment with intelligent interesting thoughts .Cheers to you good sir .

Well it may be a good idea to confirm that your particular year of bike actually had that spacer .A quick look at a parts diagram would help you with that .Your local Yamaha dealer should be able to provide you with it ..As far as the actual dimensions I'm not sure as it's in my bike right now .Let me know if you have trouble finding out the info required and I'll check with my shop here in Ontario to see if we can get it sorted for you .

I have a 2023 yz 250X and it drips oil out of the power valve vent line is that normal.?
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes Год назад
Hey Mathew, it's not uncommon to have a little bit of black oily goo drip out of the vent line .Depending on your fuel mixture and how well.your bike is running can be factors on the consistency and amount of oily discharge. Over time it gets pretty messy and sticky inside the power valve compartment and is well worth cleaning it up every once in a while to get maximum performance out of your engine.
@EarthSurferUSA

Min 1:04 I am surprised the inner coil spring coils wore into the shaft like that. How much time is on that bike? Also, what caused the wear on that same shaft, but to the left end, between the "pulley slot" and the retaining shoulder of the shaft? Was that wear done by the seal?
@TRyanLearnBikes
@TRyanLearnBikes 10 месяцев назад
You have a great eye for detail .I wondered about those wear marks too.The bike was previously owned by an avid racer who I'm sure rode it hard for a few years .It had an overbore when I got it and Ive since replaced that with a new jug .The power valve components are likely all original parts .I really dont know why there was heavy wear near the pully slot as you mentioned . Thanks for watching and your great comment . Cheers to you good sir .

After labor and parts and tools and time bringing it to a mechanic, there's no question he is saving us major dollars that we would have spent on a mechanic , or possibly making expensive mistakes doing it ourselves without a pro. I think he should actually charge a small amount for the info. He saved me thousands, so I'm sure there are appreciative people like myself that wouldn't mind tossing him a few dollars.
