Scott cawthon managed to make 8 games and several spin offs, most of which he made himself. Created an entire brand, and retired. In the time it took for yandere simulator to even leave beta💀

Another problem which wasn't mentioned was the fact he did eventually get an indie publisher to help out with the game (tinyBuild) but he hated the fact that the helpers had better code than him so he cancelled the deal. That was an actual chance for him to get the game finished and he absolutely blew it because he didn't want to learn actual code.

The fact I used to support him... I'm ashamed to admit it, but as a teenager I loved Yandere Simulator. Not anymore, but it was my childhood once.

The most telling thing for me on what Yandere Dev's true motives is the TinyBuild fiasco. They were literally going to make the game for him, and he turned them down... because they were going to replace his coding and make it actually WORK. Yandere Simulator is his personal ego trip, his toy to "play" game dev, and far be it from him to have it actually scrutinized and *gasp* changed into a functional product

The game began development when I was 13 in middle school. I just turned 23 and am about to graduate COLLEGE with a bachelors in psychology.

While Yandere Simulator was in development, i became a game developer and made 2 games, 1 free game just to see if i could, and another one just to earn some money. Now i'm a dev on a studio in a project that'll take at least 4 years, let's see if he can manage to finally complete it till then...

Yandere Dev is basically a textbook example of what NOT to do as a game developer, he did literally every possible thing wrong and failed spectacularly at making even a mid game. It's honestly baffling how he's managed to have a fanbase for a game that isn't even special in the slightest in design, story and mechanics. The game is not unique at all.

This guy feels like he'd be a background character on a Nickelodeon show, constantly saying "I'm working on my own video game guys" in Season 1 and by Season 8 he's like 10% done.

You want to know a fun fact? I believe back in 2019 or so, I E-mailed Yandere dev. I was actually "undercover", trying to get some info out of him, cause it was around the time there were many allegations. But anyways, he was pretty nice in the E-mail overall, but when I suggested a gameplay feature, he instantly shut it down. The feature was; use a tool similar to the Bombers' Notebook in Majora's Mask to keep track on all the events. Use Yandere-chan's "yandere vision" (a feature pretty much useless as far as his game goes) as a way to see where you can gather info, and use info to note down in the "notebook" when and where events will take place. (the idea was, if you find something that can be used as a murder weapon, the object will glow, and allow you to "check" it, where yandere chan will have some internal monologue about ways she can use it. It would make her seem way more creative and ruthless, and also reward the player for exploring the school and finding stuff, instead of needing to ask info-chan for recipes for how to perform the murders. The yandere vision can be used the same way to search for clues and info on rivals, all of which will be noted down, so you can check it later in case you forgot.) He said no, that he couldn't do that. I was like, okay. Didn't talk to him anymore after, since it wasn't very interesting. Then some years later(?) he came out with a new video, announcing the notebook feature I proposed, which he originally turned down, and made it out to be him who came up with it. He even referenced Majora's Mask, the game I had given him as an example. Except, instead of the player needing to gather info to note down events, you just magically get them for free. So, my idea was still better than what he implemented in the end, he implemented a lazier version, pretty much. Edit: Lol, people don't have to believe this. I know there is no proof posted in the RU-vid comment. But there's literally nothing to gain from likes on a RU-vid comments, so the accusation that it's made up for likes is a bit... ridiculous? I just wanted to share my direct interaction with him. And no, I didn't want credit for my idea, as it's not really my idea (except for the yandere vision concept), it belongs to Majora's Mask. I mentioned it to point out how lazy he is. I proposed the idea, he turned it down, but then implemented the idea around 2 years later.

He absolutely is an incompetent developer. Another developer had looked at his code and critiqued it for how sloppy it looked and gave him points to improve it substantially. He got super angry about it and I'm fairly sure he blocked them now.

Talk about a topic I’ve seen developed over the years first hand. I was in high school when this first started. I’m now 25 years old. This should be a cautionary tale to any game developers out there.

I love how Tiny Builds, the developers of Hello Neighbor, tried to fix his broken ass coding, and he got mad at them for doing so. If Hello Neighbor says your game is broken, you gotta start writing that suicide note. You failed as a game developer

Since this game's conception, we have seen: - Five Nights at Freddy's getting FOURTEEN games, a movie and a lot of merchandise. - Undertale & Deltarune being released on Switch - Omori - Pizza Tower - Antonball Deluxe (and soon, ANTONBLAST itself) coming to switch - Smash Ultimate - And even SHOVEL KNIGHT got released before this game even got CLOSE to being called a "polished product". Hell, even i'm making my own rom hack and it feels like progress is steady even though it's a relatively small project. But lo and behold, Alex still wants to focus on being a "developer" instead of being actually professional about it. Like, for crying out loud man, just start over from scratch and work on something else entirely! Make an RPGMaker game for all i care!

It’s still so wild to think that while this game was in development: -Friday Night Funkin released to critical acclaim and even got a million dollars worth of kickstarter money for new modes and DLC -Omori went from being a webcomic to a kickstarter that people almost thought was a scam, to a very loved game that’s even getting an anime now -games that took about as long as it (like Iconoclasts which released after a decade of development hell) either released or were cancelled. Or it’s Mega Man X Corrupted which has been going for over a decade with relatively consistent updates despite not releasing a demo. -SRB2 got multiple updates -Five Nights at Freddy’s became a massive multimedia franchise that even has a movie now -LGBTQ+ people slowly got more accepted in society -RU-vid had like 3 whole eras -Undertale -Mike Z got outed, disappeared and came back to sue Skullgirls’s IP holder -many Touhou games were released -people who knew of the game in HS are in college or out of it -Final Fantasy 7 got two remakes (talking about Crisis Core and Remake, Rebirth is too recent) -dead franchises revived -Persona 3-5 finally left PlayStation -Danganronpa too -Mega Man Legends 3 was announced and cancelled -every mainline Mega Man game and/or series save Starforce, MM&B, and some spin-offs have their own legacy collections, starting with Mega Man Legacy Collection for 3DS in 2015/2016 -Sonic’s resurgence in relevance -Metroid Dread and Shantae GBA went from scrapped games to real games -Scott Pilgrim Vs The World: The Game, a game that was lost media for years was randomly rereleased to the world by Ubisoft, not to mention how Scott Pilgrim as a whole seems to have made a resurgence. -Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Captain Underpants have movies and/or a series and so much more happened

He also has a poll up, so his community can vote on what they want him to prioritize. It includes his making RU-vid videos, making a completely different game, having the rivals and other NPCs respawn, giving each npc tasks in one of the other game modes, and reworking visuals for 1980s mode, but not working on rival 3

The whole ‘too many emails’ situation could’ve been solved if he used some of that Patreon money to pay for a mod or two to read over his emails and forward the important ones onto him. Heck I’m sure he could have had people that would to volunteer to do that for free, back when he was somewhat likable.

For people who wanted to play Yandere Simulator for the mechanics, may I recommend The Hitman Series. Yandere Simulator is inspired by Hitman and they’ve released like three games since then. It’s on Xbox Gamepass for PC (and probably Xbox too)

The Yanderedev Discord Ban Speedrun is definitely his magnum opus. I had so much fun watching people competing to get the world record. The funniest part is that it was the byproduct of a terrible person and his terrible actions.

I remember leaving him a comment once asking if he was going to add some kind of hall monitor to the game. This comment led adding the student council members to the game.

I was in 5th grade when the game started development. I have now graduated middle school, got my GED, graduated magna cum laude from college, took a gap year to learn Spanish in Mexico and am going to law school in August and dude STILL hasn't made 20% of the game.

“Releasing, when it’s ready” -Cyberpunk 2077

I actually worked for YanDev on the game as an animator in 2016. Back then I was a senior-level animator, and (as he stated to me himself) was one of the "most qualified" people (let alone animators) he'd ever worked with. I created a couple of animations for him to help flesh out a new feature for the game (they revolved around the delinquents I believe), and then he asked me to create an intricate system of animations for something else that would've resulted in like... around 50 unique animations or something? Since I've also spent a number of years in independent game development, I offered a different solution for the system that made better use of his resources, trimming the staggering amount of work he was asking for down to 6 unique animations. This was to help achieve his goal more easily and to better focus his work where people were most likely to see it, as many of the animations he was asking for were failure mechanic that players was unlikely to see. He said to me, "Sorry, but I don't subscribe to that method of thinking." I then left the project. 3 years later (2019), he reached out to me, asking for help in creating an Undertale Easter egg. I never replied.

I was 15 when this creep was working on Yandare Simulator. In the ten years, I graduated high school, went to college twice (one for graphic design and digital media design) and I’ve been working on a web comic series for the past year since 2023. I’m 25 in May and this game hasn’t even came out the beta stages because of HIS lack of motivation

The game never stood a chance. The dude is just an incel with the bare minimum of skills to "pass" as a programmer, and this has always been just a grift. Like you said, he likes to play a game dev, not actually be one. He never had the skills to actually deliver a game. It will be funny when the last of his patreon money will evaporate, because with such poor skills, reputation and a gigantic blank space in his CV, he has painted himself in to quite the corner.

Some weirdo just look at the Hitman games, go "i want an anime version of that" and then stole assets and lazily made a poorly coded game called "yander sim". We were dumb teens, we thought it was cool because we have no idea how programing works or where the assets come from. We're smarter now.

These ten years I literally lost 10 kilos, ran a marathon, went to college, know three languages, mended my broken relationship with my dad, reconnected with lots of people in my life, got over depression, learned how to cook, read like 20+ books, won some small scale competitions in school, helped prepare meals for homeless people in a charity community I'm in. My life literally went from a few steps of jumping off the bridge to "I don't want to dieeee" and this guy is still making his fetish game. How do you get this low.
