2004 really swung the momentum in this rivalry. Outside of 2009 (trust me, I know), the Yankees have been nowhere near the Red Sox' level since then. Both in terms of overall success and head-to-head. Boston owns them.

This was arguably the best game I've ever been to at Fenway Park. The crowd was insane.

WHAT A GAME! WHAT A WIN RED SOX! I said we had to score first and get to Gerrit early and we did just that! Amazing pitching performance by Nate tonight! He was nasty and locked in! Cora pulled him out too soon though, but thankfully the bullpen did a great job too. Off to St Pete to take on the Rays! Bye-bye Yankees! 👋🏼. That was our win against them since July 25, the game German nearly pitched a no-hitter till 8th, then we broke it up and ended up winning!

Stantons first inning single was like the polar opposite of Bucky dent’s famous home run in 78. Think about it. Both games at Fenway. Dent’s a light hitter. Hits a ball everyone thought was a simple fly ball. Ends up carrying over the monster. Yankees ride momentum, and win game 5-4 over Red Sox. Stanton’s a home run hitter, he hit a monster shot towards the wall. Everyone thinks it’s a home run and it ends up dying before it clears the wall. The Yankees would fall behind the next half inning and never catch up. The Red Sox would go on to win over the Yankees.

Stanton’s cockiness in the 1st inning not just running even if he thought it was gone really foreshadows the rest of the game

I wish the Mariners made the Wild Card instead smh Hopefully the Mariners will do better in 2022.

Another year, another heartbreaking playoff loss. I don’t really know what I expected, they underperformed tremendously this season, and at the beginning of the season I never thought we would get eliminated by the Red Sox, but here we are. I want Boone fired at the end of the season. Congratulations to the Red Sox, they played their heart out, better luck next season.

I saw the game, so this is probably obvious, but it bears mentioning: the Red Sox won because they did the little things so well in this game. Too one-dimensional on the Yankees side, particularly on offense. Good, steady defense, a good starting pitching performance, and most importantly, tremendously good patience combined with good situational hitting. When the little things work well, it can really be fun to watch.

I'm gonna watch this video all weekend long .

As a Yankees fan, I had a positive outlook at the beginning of the game despite the fact in my opinion that the Red Sox has been a better run franchise after 2004. The Red Sox I believe has haunted the Yankees since they came back and won being 0-3 down during that iconic 2004 ALCS. I respected what the Yankees did late this season in order to secure a one game playoff, but they had their chances. I won't even say that if they had secured home field advantage they would have won. Although it definitely could have helped. The Red Sox IMHO make big timely hits during big games. The Yankees on the other hand still try to golf out almost every hit for a homer, and they paid a price for it. I congratulate the Sox. They were by far the better team. I'm not going to pile up on Cole too much, the Yankees bats again did not respond. And that's a problem to figure out for the offseason.
