What pisses me off is that Yanwan’s mother swore that she harmed Yongjing, even if it was false swearing, and he sent yanwan to the punishment bureau, but as soon as yanwan fake-saves his grandson hes like “uhhh Ruyi probably did it because the astrologists said so”

it's his ego. He was too egoistic to admit that Ruyi was right all along and when Ruyi showed him he was wrong he chose to banish her instead of admitting his mistake. Even for Yanwan, he himself picked her to be one of the concubines so he couldn't accept that he chose wrongly and she was an evil person, and always believed her to be the meek and innocent one.

Just look at Yanwan, she looks like an embarrassed doggy who peed on the blankets and says it is not her fault. 😂

The Emperor's hate for Ruyi isn't based on nothing. It's based on the Emperor's stupidity and stubbornness. 😒

I thought he poisoned her but in a later episode she's still alive, with gray hair n crazy. They poison her again. After the 1st poisoning, was she saved?

i think the idea was that although the emperor was ill, he wasn't nearly as weak as the others made it sound like. Everyone around him - Li Yu, the doctor, the empress dowager - all are on Ruyi's side and part of her plan to reveal Ling's schemes. All their dialogue was deliberate to help lower her guard and encourage her to do something as audacious as assign her son as crown prince, and she took the bait. Note how Hailan and the Empress dowager were conveniently nearby during the confrontation, bc they were waiting for her to fall in their trap. Dr Jiang had been giving him sedatives to keep the appearance of severe illness up until the right moment.

@@krystaln7539 lol I know that the emperor was trying to preserve his own life because of scheming women. The doctor just played along with his wishes, and the culprit was cornered and exposed. It was tough being an emperor at that time as everyone wanted his seat and power, so he didn't get to rest well or anything else. Having a harem back then was to have tons of kids, but the women were killing them off in the thought of becoming Empress.

I think it is because the emperor saw Wei Yanwan as a "better" version of Ruyi in a lot of cases which lead him to such willful ignorance. She was regarded as having a resemblance to a young Ruyi and was notorious for using the emperor's own whimsical desires against him. But as such,.in indulging in such immature desires, I think the emperor saw Consort Ling as a version of Ruyi he never got as a lover. As when Ruyi became a concubine and then empress, she had already grown and acknowledged the burdens and restrictions that the imperial royal family (forgive if not the correct term) had to face in order to protect it. So Wei Yanwan's downfall not only represents the consequences of her own actions, but the emperor's as well.

You're talking like it's fact.. no one actually knows what kind of person she was. All we know is that she was favored and then her son became the next emperor. That's why there're two versions of the story. Also mainly because the second empress was almost completely wiped out of history.

It's from another version drama Yanxi Palace. That's why we must not seriously taken a drama vs a documenter film. Many will fantasize without reading original Chinese documents history. For worse some creating English article as if it's history but actually mostly author's fantasy mixed up.
