I absolutely love Lion Brand Heartland in my Sentro machine, I never get a dropped stitch, it's perfect and so soft as well . As like Caron simply soft, loved your video, thank you for sharing!
I appreciate this review! Thank you! Red Heart super saver is my least favorite in general just because it’s so stiff. It does wash up nicely, but it’s just not as pleasant feeling on the hands as you’re working with it. I Love This Yarn is my favorite.
I wish I liked Big Twist Value, but it pills up SO fast, even before it is washed. 😭 I Love This Yarn I have found to be more durable. And the Yarn Bee, Soft &Sleek is an low-pill acrylic that is dreamy in the Addi! Love this video! Thanks so much!!
I love the Landscapes yarn from Lion. The multi colours are gorgeous. Soft and has a beautiful sheen to it. I bought mine at Walmart but can’t remember the price.
I agree on the big twist! It works in my Addi and my Sentro machines. I wish the Super Saver yarns were more dependable because some of them work fine and some of them don't. Some of the solids work fine and some don't. Some of the variegated work fine and some don't! It drives me nuts. What I have been doing, because I keep forgetting what works and what doesn't work is.... When it screws up in my machine, I just wind it right off and then I take what I wound off of the machine and I wind it around this skein... so that I know that this is yarn to not try on the machines anymore, but to use on my knitting looms! It's The only thing that will keep me sane!

Thanks very much for this video. I bought a Sentro a few years back. It was very picky about what yarns it would work with so I set is aside after multiple failures. Now that you've figured out what yarns to use, I think I'll take another shot at it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! By the way, Sentro worked well w/ Berroco Millefiori, but it's not a bargain yarn.
Just worsted yarn from dollar tree has worked wonderfully for me for many hats and other projects. I love the colors (and the price😊). I also think the dollar tree yarn is softer than the mainstays yarns which is great for people with sensitive skin like many people in my family.

Thank you Serfronya for this video! I just tried my knitting machine for the first time yesterday and was wondering about yarns. So far I have tried I Love This Yarn and Red Heart and will try Big Twist today based on your recommendation.
I have had good luck with Caron simply soft, but I agree with the comment about Big Twist and Mainstays. I refuse to shop at Hobby Lobby for personal reasons. My machine will not knit any other worsted yarn without making an absolute mess. I don't have any problems with sport weight or DK weight yarn.
The thing I don't like about Big Twist is the washing instructions. It doesn't not recommend machine dry. For variety, I like Bernat Pipsqueak, (makes cute fuzzy stuffed animals), Premier Everyday 4 weight, (so soft and light), but I shop the sales. Thanks for all your advice!
Thanks for the video. I have away all my red heart super saver. The machine was skipping stitches with it… no thank you. 🙄. My machine loves ILTY. I agree, it’s expensive at $4.99 but it’s good and works up easily. 🙌🏾 I recently bought BiG Twist ($1.87 per skein with coupon) and it’s great too. It has great number of colors and did well when washed. 💪🏾
I agree with your top two for sure. I would maybe put some lion brand in the third or 4th spot but I’ve never used mainstay yarn. I will have to try it. Thanks for your review and input!!
Thank you!!! I just got a Addi Express for Christmas and I was very disappointed that my stitches kept dropping…argh! I was using Red Heart Super Saver! So I am going to switch to one of your recommended brands, and hopefully I will be more pleased !
I have 2 addis, the sentro and the pink generic machines. My red heart super saver yarn wouldnt run in the sentro but did fine in the addi. Just my experience.
I can't use any red heart yarns in my.sentro, I just bought the jamit electric knitting machine, so. I'll be testing different yarns but I'll probably. Use softer and #3s more or whatever. My machine accepts
Thank you, your videos are so helpful, still learning which yarns work. I took notes. I had a skein of red heart super saver pooling in the closet so i tried that today and made a reversible hat. One time the cranking seemed tight. Going to Walmart this week to get Mainstay to try.
I'm right there with ya! All your choices are SPOT ON!!! My number one is BIG TWIST Value, Party, Tweed, etc...They ALL work Perfectly except the BT Cotton/poly. Do you know which Cotton/Polyester blend works? Hobby lobby maybe? Thank you
Oh my gosh. I am so shocked how much you pay for yarn in the US. I am in the UK. Yarn is very expensive here. About 3 times more than what you pay in US even in the hobby lobby equivilent hobby craft. We don't ever get vouchers or offers either. Sometimes there's a sale (about once a year) in hobby craft. It's not actually a money off sale but you can buy 3 for 2 on selected ranges. It's so expensive to have a hobby in this country. I love your yarns. The colours abd textures and size of the skeins are amazing. Comparing your video to the yarn available here, I think ours is not only much more expensive but it's also sold in smaller size skeins. Red heart yarn is only available on amazon and it costs about £7.99 or you can buy 3 skeins for around £20.
I just bought some Red Heart yarn because Walmart has the best price of any yarn that gauge. But I can't get it to work in my knitting machine: It won't drop down on the hooks consistently, so I get a lot of skipped stitches. I even tried spraying dry lubricant on the hooks, but it didn't help. I think it's because the yarn is so stiff or rough compared to many other yarns. (I didn't have this much trouble with softer, smoother yarns.) I'm very disappointed because I bought 2 Super Saver skeins to make hats for homeless people, and I just can't get it to work. I'm thinking about washing the yarn first to remove some of the stiffness and soften it before I try it again in the knitting machine. Has anyone else had the trouble? Has anyone else tried washing Red Heart before using in their machine? If so, did it help at all?
I must be doing something wrong. I tried Mainstays, red hart and now I love this yarn. My machine keeps dropping stitches and catching. I am very frustrated at this point. I noted that when I place yarn in the tension holes my machine has a problem. So I hand control tension after trying each hole with the yarn. I am leaving a loose pull of yarn so the yarns go through easily. I am going to try the #1 recommendation of yarn but wonder if it will work. One thing I noticed is the yarn that came with the machine worked with no problem which is weird. I may need to get a few rolls from dollartree to test. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Serfronya Great review of yarns for the knitting machine. It really helps to reduce the frustration of tucked stitches when learning to use the machines. I have had similar experiences. i am currently trying red heart super saver in a shade of red, and it is NOT working, it keeps dropping the dang stitches and i can't figure out how to fix it easily
Buying at full price is for suckers. 😆 It means I usually only buy one or two items at a time at Joann unless they have a good sale, but I usually save 40-50%.
How does Caron simply soft work? I need to make several hats for 10 year olds. What do you recommend? Also I am in Charleston sc. I am just now learning to use my Sentro. My 10 year old grandson made our very first hat on it and wore it to school. Now all 14 classmates and his teacher want him to make them one. LOL, Budding entrepreneur.
I use the smallest or middle tension depending on the thickness of the Mainstays yarn which I have found to sometimes be inconsistent from skein to skein.
