That ETB wording explanation is priceless. A great reminder, and Zegana is a perfect example. Thank you for having the foresight to cover that aspect when creating the video for this Commander. Well done.
I plan to try this card out in my Muldrotha deck personally. I don't foresee it lasting in there too long, but I've been surprised before. After that, I'd be tempted to build around it as you are outlining here. The only shitty part is the color overlap between decks....
Scry is a stackable ability. Like if you play a scry spell then copy it, instead of making things slow and scrying two separate times, you can just scry the full sum since you have the choice to keep the cards on top or the bottom in the order you desire
@@SephyClone7 unless this is a new rule, I don't think you're correct. Scry 2 and Scry 1 twice can have two very different effects. Let's say, you Scry 2. You look at the top two cards from your library and decide what to do with each. No matter what, you always see both cards and can choose what to do with both. When you Scry 1 twice, you look at one card from the top of your library. If you keep it on top, you never get to see the second card. Quite different from Scry 2. I'm pretty sure this is how it works. I know you can put Scry 1 on the stack twice, but they each resolve separately. I've never heard of a "stackable ability". Unless it's a new thing. Maybe we can test it on MTGA or MTGO?
DJ! Do the ETB tribe a.k.a. Allies! "When [CARDNAME] or another Ally enters the battlefield under your control, do the thing." Yarok, "...I like that. Do it again."
Stalker Stomper3 so there are 49 W, R, and WR Allies. There are 48 in the remaining colors. Not much difference if you ask me. Keep the best ones, fill in with clones, shapeshifter/changelings, and you’ve got yourself a deck.
Station technically true but this is a RU-vid comment thread not an essay with that logic you could also say that omnath isn’t a he and is rather an it
Love the extra interaction explanations. I've been playing for years and feel like I have a pretty good grasp on the rules but it is still nice to get reminders for corner cases.
Beautiful thing with Faerie Artisans: It's effect triggers twice with Yarok. Yarok doesn't care if the thing entering the battlefield is yours or not, it just doubles the triggers you control. So you get two tokens and two etb effects for each of those tokens.
Yarok is a really cool card, I agree, but I'm not using him as a Commander. Nah instead he's going in the 99 of another M20 Commander deck, Golos. Namely this is a blink-focused Maze's End deck, so doubling up the Golos triggers with Yarok to turbo out all the Guildgates just sounds fucking class
DJ, you will love this Yarok + Risen Reef + Zendikar's Roil = 1 Land > Get 2 Elementals > Get 4 Risen Reef Triggers > Repeat if you get a land Add Amulet of Vigor and you can play the rest of your hand Best part: Risen Reef doesn't say draw a card, so as long as you keep hitting lands with this combo, it repeats until you have no cards in your deck left
@@danieledwards4310 Inalla can be a competitive commander if built right. You do have to pay 1 for her effect and your ETBs are limited to Wizards, but the fact that it's an Eminence ability means you never have to play your commander to win. For competitive EDH that's like having a combo piece out Turn 0.
So far my favorite is yarok with polluted bonds. You'll notice his ability involves any permanant enteringnthe battlefield triggering an effect of a permanant you control, and draining 4 life from an opponent for every land they play is god damned beautiful XD
I feel that some Muldrotha will want Yarok in the deck but all Yarok will want muldrotha. Muldrotha lets you play cards out of the graveyard and things will always go to the graveyard. Yarok doubling triggers mean you have to have the cards that will have those abilities
Jumbo What's with as soon as they release a set, they have 0 down time and start spoilers for the next set. I feel it's happening too fast. How much cardboard can one person have before... Make a deck, play it once or twice then a new set comes out and have to make a deck out of those cards. Feeling a little financially drained 😅😓
I've been testing this deck and I grabbed fblthp with vannifar with yarok on the battlefield and drew 4 cards. I also run seedborn muse, because its seedborn muse and it's amazing, and with vannifar it's amazing.
The possibilities are endless! This is a commander I'm going to make Elemental tribal with, do Labman things with, Lands with, Stax with, you name it! Love the versatile life
One thing that is important to note with faerie artisans: even though you do get both ETBs, you only keep one token b/c the ability itself exiles all other tokens created by it. Because you are copying the ability, the second ability resolving exiles the token created by the first.
I've been playtesting my deck for a few days and Springbloom Druid is such a heavy hitter in it. Sac 2 lands (usually basics I already tapped to cast it) and then go get 4 more. This deck has been so much fun to play so far but man does it get trigger and math heavy quick
You laugh about doubling the triggered abilities of your actual land cards, but mosswort bridge never looked better. Khalni garden can also provide a lot of value in a deck that includes payoffs for creatures entering the battlefield and/or sac outlets.
Wow really great video, I appreciate it, because you could have just called this one in and made an easy etb deck, but you went the extra mile to show all these other decks. I really didn't think I would like this guy, but you changed my mind with the Wizards and lands deck
One question: Iona shield of emeria (I konw everybody looooves to play against this card and yes it is evil) says "as Iona enters the battlefield choose a color". Now is that a trigger that will be doubled from panharmonicon? Or can I copy it with the resonator?
Unfortunately there is no trigger, you just declare as it comes in. It's like how panharmonicon doesn't double the amount of +1/+1 counters on a creature that comes in.
@@koblfricker278 yeah, but there it's clear, like it comes into play with them, but since there is an as it enters the battlefield I thought it might work, but turned out it doesen't work like that.
Some of the ways you pronounce word strings are confusing. Ex: "It costs 2, black, green, blue" You say it like this though "It costs 2: Black(2), Green(2), Blue(2)" as if it actually costs BB/GG/UU. Rather than saying "It costs 2 colorless, 1 black, 1 green, 1 blue" I know you're shortening for time's sake but the distinction is hard to make. The other one is you say "panharmonicon, doubling up all of our triggers and now we have a commander that fulfills that DREAM inthecommandzone" I think you mean to put the emphasis on "IN" so "Dream… IN the command zone!" It's really throwing me off.
Devoid eldrazi tribal? It's in the three best colors for the devoid eldrazi, and most of the devoid eldrazi worth playing do something when they enter the battlefield (granted, for the most part that's just making Scions, but hey, that's a _lot_ of bonus scions, and by extension, bonus mana)
Play Carnival of Souls Play Deep Forest Hermit Hermit triggers Yarok and you net 9 creatures. Trigger Carnival of Souls 9 times, doubled by Yarok. Lose 18 life and gain 18 black mana. Dump the excess mana into any number of win cons. Exsanguinate, Torment of Hailfire, Walking Ballista, Finale of Devastation ??????? Profit
SacredCharizard True but now you’re relying on 3 different cards from your 99 being in your hand. I’m planning on making my Yarok deck around ETBs and Death Triggers. Ashnod’s Alter and Phyrexian Alter already sync with the deck very well. Sacking all the tokens and using the spells you named is extra value.
@@hiddenleaf414 I mean, no, you're relying on a two-card synergy, with any number of value cards/win cards that the synergy fuels. Being in blue, you shouldn't be making big splashy plays if you don't have answers to back it up, no matter what the deck is doing. I also plan to build him similarly. I'm using him as a sultai devoid eldrazi commander and getting double the scions and spawns. Every single creature you play is a ramp spell, which you get even more value out of when you play things like cryptolith rite, earthcraft, or the riskier carnival of souls. Make big manna while going wide to make big splashy plays. Saccing lots of creatures for mana anyway so it can play some of the gravepact and blood artist effects. Not nearly a busted way to make him but I've wanted to make a deck around devoid eldrazi for a while now.
Altar of the brood, mirrorworks, psychic corrosion, mirage mirror, teferi's puzzle box, breathstealer's crypt, aetherflux reservoir... Find space for them in this deck, and thank me later.
Is this the deck for heartless summoning? This gives us another powerful ramp engine when we dont have lotus cobra. Turn 3 Yarok then some degenerate value Turn 4. Evoke mulldrifter for U draw 4 cards a 33% better ancestral recall. Wood elves G tutor out 2 basic lands untapped. If you can cast 2 or 3 creatures turn 4 and get 4 or 6 etbs that seems pretty great. Not to mention when Yarok dies it costs only 5 to recast him. Another suggestion is faerie artisans to get 2 of each opponents etbs. They try to ravenous chubecabra Yarok and you get to kill 2 things in response.
I tried risen reef in my yarok edh deck. It just never seemed to pay off enough. If you don't draw zendikar's roil it doesn't really do much.. Unless you run all elementals that is. I also tried that but it just was not as good as all the other things I could do. I mean you're only elementals are risen reef, yarok, roil, and avenger really. I think the idea of comboing off retreat to coralhelm with walking atlas works better. If you have prime speaker vannifar you can untap her and pod again as well as untap the walking atlas if your commander is in play. It adds more synergy. Add a way to bounce lands and it is wayyyy more powerful than birthing pod. Also progenitor mimic in this deck is sooooo good. Worth the 6 cmc if it sticks around even for 1 turn.
I see that you want to exploit the ability of Yarok to double triggered abilities not only of creatures and artifacts. However, as you are playing Panharmonicon, and rightfully so, in the deck, it seems sort of a nonbo, don't you think ? Wouldn't it be more reliable to stick on artifact and creatures ?
A lot of people seem to be sleeping on the idea of using this thing to double the ETBs of Devoid Eldrazi. B/U/G are the three most represented colors among Eldrazi (not counting colorless), a vast majority of them having powerful ETB effects, not to mention the fact that Yarok himself is the remains of Ulamog's spawn.
I am thinking a deck that consists of card draw, counterspells, and ETB enchantments like Polluted Bond/Tainted Aether. Probably the weirdest build idea you can think of but THINK OF THE FUN CONTROL DECK YOU COULD HAVE!
So I've been messing around with construction of a Yarok deck, abusing ETB creature effects and Intruder Alarm alongside Cryptolith Rite. One thing I've been looking into a lot recently with it is Squirrels because I had noticed the interaction of Deep Forest Hermit. Another card is Squirrel's Nest from MH1, and I want to do a Squirrel heavy deck now. Just need to turn a land into a creature. Also, when you said you wanted to include a bunch of squirrels, you can imagine how high pitched I just screamed the word SQUIRRELS!!!
YarNabonAnomicin! YarNabonAnomicon! YarNabonAmonicon! Copying effects with three iterations of Panharomicon esque effects sounds so fun. As for Yarok Elementalands matter can probably deck you, but imagine what happens if (assuming everything goes right) you get to 0 cards in library, no Tatyova to draw a card (since reef looks then adds to hand), then Gaias blessing a few cards in, draw off it, discard to handsize, and use either Gaia's Blessing + Mending of Dominaria jank or Elixer of Immortality to shuffle your library back. Then you have all the landfall triggers, and you still have the deck to play with.
Risen Reef says "You may..." - so if you're worried about decking yourself, you can stop playing lands. Such a sweet card! I'm thinking about putting it in an Omnath, Locus of the Roil deck so I can also combine the triggers from Omnath, Locus of Rage.
Time for some degenerate Yarok+Panharmonicon+Mirage Mirror trigger stacks to keep my opponents up at night. LOL Not like I'm already doing that jank with Inalla+Panharmonicon+Naban+Mirage Mirror+ something like Venser to send all the lands away#MAGIC ;p
This makes me want to rebuild my Muldrotha clone deck. Was super fun cloning landfall cards and with Yarok and clone landfall (or steal) this could get nasty.
One pretty heavy mill cynergy with Yarok is with Yarok + conjourers closet + Altar of the brood on field, then cast Avenger of Zendikar and you Will be able to Mill at least the top 32 cards in one turn.
Fyi, Rosen Reef and Zendikar’s Roil can’t deck you as it puts the nonlands into hand, it doesn’t draw them. This allows you to cast your lab man and gush or just new jace to just win. Might be worth it to slot one or the other for this combo.
Fun interaction: Necromancy gets 2 creatures, ends enchanting the second one, and both creatures die if it leaves the battlefield (it never left the battlefield between iterations and being enchanted is not a requirement of staying alive). Trials and Cartouches would be awesome in a budget build. Thanks for reminding me of Polluted Bonds. I'm running Ankh of Mishra, too... but Horn of Greed to balance it all out. Love your stuff, man! Keep it up!
Heres the stupid thing about risen reef. its not a draw so you deck yourself you just get your entire deck and can play your lab man. Also little confused do you have muldrotha land matters or did you keep it with tasigur? Oh nevermind this is what i get for commenting before the end
I tried my hand at building a deck around this commander and once I got to putting the lands on my list (my phone's new so I've been trying to adjust) and I accidently refreshed the page without saving the list 😡😭
The new rhonos and craterhoof bathemoth in this is so funny with tarok out! Craterhoof gets double the counters till end up turn rhonas then doubles them a further 2 times! 😂😂😂😂
Thank you for addressing the rule confusion with ETB effects and clarifying it so simply. I knew there was a reason things like Prime Speaker wouldn't be doubled but I wasn't able to explain it to others...
I'll probably add this sweet beast of a card to my Sidisi deck with all the great legends like Muldrotha, Titania, Gitrog and...I don't remember what else is all in there off hand XD
Bounce lands will bounce twice and become even more weak. Or make pox deck with bounce lands, mana acceleration like burgeoning/azusa/exploration preventing your manabase from destruction. Also sunder.
