I got a vr6, hearing that one rev at the start of the vid i was wincing. Thats not how they should sound, especially a turbocharged one....how could the owner not know

First sign of " never heard that before" you pull the faq over take a look, and tow it. You dont "easy ride back" it!! Your problem can go from bent valve to cracked piston in 1 second flat.

Haha last time i had a mk3 and it made that sort of noise one of my rear wheels went past me at 40mph

We’ve had loads of these in Mk2s and 3, when we’ve timed the engine up wrong they sound exactly like what yours does when reving, almost slightly like a Subaru! Doesn’t rev up freely, might be something worth checkin! Popped a drive shaft by sounds of it! Great content as always whoop whoop on to the next!

I owned a vrt , first issue was 3rd gear smashed itself to pieces, second issue was exactly the same as first, bought a treated gear set and put a peloquin lsd in, best move ever !! Changed to 35r / 1.06. from a 30r / .76 . Got bored buying tyres so often. Treated myself to h rods , pistons and the very expensive arp,s and wear n tear replacement parts. Got my Ecu back with new settings , fitted all and did over 700 expensive up n down the motorway miles , then me being me couldn’t resist the new evo 10 that zipped past me. I knew I had an expensively built stage 3 under my harris but it scolded off from 60mph , then went full hyperspace mode for around 3 seconds before absolutely and completely detonating the engine. Either me or my buddy simply forgot to connect the boost controller, the car made a zillion hp for 3 seconds then the most violent bang I’ve ever had in a car. Rod out the sump, smoked 6 lanes of traffic completely. Saw daylight between top of window screen and metal. Two pistons jammed so hard in block, a scaffold pole couldn’t smash them out. Valves all bent ,some in L shape. Stood there looking at all that money and cut hands from the inside of the block,time and effort and all gone in a few seconds down to one silly error. Two points to take from my story. One = buy a strong gearbox from the start. Two = let someone go over your car after you , one silly mistake can cost a fortune. Ps 4 months later ,the salvageable parts + new engine/ turbo (yep that let go too and was a Garret) went into a mk 2 . I was 12.6 with the mk3 and so wanted 11,s , I drove to pod n home every time so 888’s where best I could do and u will really struggle to get into the 10’s without slicks and I’d watched my friend snap 3 lots of drive shafts so not for me lol. Happy ending though. 11.2 q/m . Sad that the vrt is a car that is hard to use on the roads now, too many cameras around and it’s not an off the lights car which is all that happens nowadays ,as in 300ft it’s hard brakes for the camera. These things need big open roads . Still. LONG LIVE THE 12v

Sounds like it's down a cylinder when he's revving it. I don't understand how he can not hear that.

If it runs 300ish at 15psi there’s no way that turbo is capable of pushing 750+bhp unless he wants to push like 50+ lbs of boost 😂😂😂 absolute joker!

I've owned a few n/a vr6's and that didn't sound right but maybe it's to do with the turbo setup. I dont think the knock was the engine. Maybe a mount or something?

Damn I miss mine. 98 jetta Vortex S1-trim 8.5 psi, first gear out of a rabbit diesel. Quif- differential, 375 ring-pinion, nitto-555 drag radials, 12.5 quarter mile. With spare tire and car seat. Nice job on the ride

Broken engine mount &/or exhaust manifold?

So what was the issue in the end? Sounded like broken gearbox? or busted engine mount allowing the engine to grind on the chassis?

I feel for the guy....heartbreaking to see the car he spent so much on give up....fingers crossed he gets it sorted...

I had an oh mk3 vr6. You can buy one but if you want reliability you'll need to rebuild it pretty much. Oil seals, brake lines, belt, coolant pipes, brake sensors, exhaust box etc etc. Love em though.

Unfinished tatty project massively not ready for a video...I’m not hating but the thing was tapping like crazy,trim missing,cables hanging out everywhere and rotted front seals 😕 it was broken before the shoot Ricky But to end on a good note wicked to see these older cars and variety. If he gets that on its toes he should bring it back in a year and show us all how cool it’s become 👍🏻

Yeah, It sounds really tappy, as he said he has an oil leak, valvetrain might not be getting proper lubrication. I've just recently rebuilt mine, it was chugging oil because of the cylinder head.

Things go wrong sometimes, hope the guy gets it sorted.
