Great video! I love my Yates razors. You're absolutely right about the 'Merica being a Goldilocks razor. I'd recommend that to anyone with zero hesitation. I actually think the Winning is their most efficient razor, even more than the 921-H. It just doesn't have as much blade feel. Someone else described it as a stubble squeegee. Jake is a good guy. It's nice to support a business with his kids' artwork on the wall in his shop.

@leenunes007 it’s a great razor for sure. I love their all American family small business appeal.

I use the brass Merica Razor. It's a wonderful shave. Very similar to my 6s plate 4 IMHO.

Nice. I enjoy my Merica. Well made and a good shaver. The magnet is a great idea. Using different razors and soaps is something I enjoy about the hobby. It has taken shaving from something boring to being fun. Take care.

@michaelhunyadi5087 as men we rarely take any time for ourselves. Women get hair, nails, etc done. I never enjoyed shaving at all before I got into “wetshaving”. Now it’s a way to spend 20-30 minutes of my day relaxing.

Hi John, very nice shave! Don't worry about subscribers, the RU-vid algorithm is very complicated! For me, the first 150 were lightning fast in 3 months, then in 2 months I got to about 200. But it took a whole year to get to 300. Until I finally got to 400 after another year, then it got faster and now like lightning I'm back to 500 and over. I have no idea what they're paying attention to. So John, your videos are great, maybe you'll use the shorts too. Also put links to your other videos in your videos if you don't already. Have a great weekend 👍

@robertsclassicshave thanks for those tips! When I post videos more regularly the algorithm picks up a more I’ve noted. I get busy with life and don’t post & things slow down.

@@Stubblemeetssteel if you nothing do, no posts etc you are invisible. And nobody sees you! I have the same problem with time like you. Sometimes not only 8 hours in work but additionally home work for 4-6 hours. And then I pressed the Video on RU-vid and I wondered why so little likes, comment etc

Hey, if you ever had the resources/interest in trying out the Yaqi Ghost Titanium, I think that'd be an interesting video. I believe it's very similar to this razor (but MUCH cheaper). Also, just wanted to say, I really like the simplicity/efficiency/clarity of your videos. I don't quite know how to articulate it. There's a certain relaxingness/soothingness to them🙂.

@apondo100. Thank you for that compliment. From what I understand the ghost titanium should be similar to the ghost 70 sp I have except for the weight difference.

@chuckshavingchannel3101 I did too that’s why I went to this guy. My wife & kids had been using him for years. I was going to this other dentist who can make crowns in house but he was $1600+ out of pocket last time. This new to me guy was $1100 out of pocket after Discount. It’s so expensive for dental work!

The only Titanium razor I own is the Blackland Blackbird Lite. It is my most expensive. Can't say that it is my favorite.

Gotta say John I think you deserve way more subscribers than you have, and I can’t help but feel like I “got in early” to your RU-vid journey. How do the Facebook trade boards compare to say the r/shave_bazaar?
@Stubblemeetssteel
@Stubblemeetssteel 3 месяца назад
@jakecollette839 thank you for the kind words. My journey has been taking off so quickly! On FB there is a few razor buy/sell/trade groups. U post pics of your items with your name/date in the pics with items. Guys post prices & shipping etc. It is somewhat of an honor system. Most ppl use PayPal to pay. You start seeing the same ppl on them so you know who is a regular after a bit. I’ve seen T3 Simpson brushes for $25 Merkur 34c $25 you name it tons of big discounts. If anything it’s a dangerous rabbit hole of “wow that’s so cheap I should buy that!” 🤣🤣

I would consider the as-machined finish to be a smoother finish than the other two. I have a 921 byor with both the M & H baseplate and I love it
@Stubblemeetssteel
@Stubblemeetssteel 3 месяца назад
@flynn6306 you would think the as machined being the closest to a polished finish would be the smoothest. Yet a few gents said they felt is was not the smoothest for some reason. I haven’t had a chance to try the other finishes so I can’t say either way. Regardless I enjoy the bead blasted Merica.

How does the Merica compare to the Yaqi Ghost 70 in terms of efficiency and blade feel ? I recently had a Ghost 70 loaned to me and I personally find it too mild with too narrow of an effective angle. Is the Merica more efficient and does it have a larger effective angle ?
@Stubblemeetssteel
@Stubblemeetssteel 3 месяца назад
@sagurosmart4100 great questions! I like how you think. I was thinking of comparing those 2 razors. 1) the yaqi ghost 70sp has a wider angle to play with then the Merica(Merica is VERY steep angle as well) the ghost has a more traditional angle 2) efficiency wise they are very close maybe a slight nod to Merica but would have to do a shave off to be sure.

@saguarosmart4100 haha I saw you posting about an aylesworth apex vs overlander on B&B. Have you tried the bison yet? Brass is tempting but I think I want one more fancy aluminum razor so the bison is high on the radar. They also make the overlander is aluminum as well.
@saguarosmart4100
@saguarosmart4100 3 месяца назад
I haven't tried the Bison, moslty due to the fact I tend to favor heavier razors so AL is usually not on my radar as much. I'd say if you are curious about the Overlander, wait until you try the Lambda Athena because it can give you a hint as whether you would like the Overlander. The Lambda Athena, while obviously different in geometry, tends to feel close to the Overlander in terms of efficiency / comfort. I'd say the Athena is slightly more efficient and just a tad bit more comfortable than the Overlander. So maybe trying the Athena can give you a bit of an indication if the Overlander could work for you. Overall, the Lambda Athena is my absolute favorite razor but the Overlander (SS) is not too far behind, costs a bit less and requires less maintenance (Bronze vs SS). Still though my best purchase was the Athena, the shave is the very best I experienced, the aesthetics are absolutely stellar, it has such a unique design, it reeks of the greatness of ancient Greece and its mythology, I love it. Theo is an a master at his craft and an artist as well.

@@saguarosmart4100 🤫 I used it. I like the ares more thus far. Less blade feel and doesn’t clog up with lather as easily. The Athena feels similar to the alpha outlaw evolution too me shave wise.
@saguarosmart4100
@saguarosmart4100 3 месяца назад
@@Stubblemeetssteel Interesting, I've never tried an Ares. It looks beautiful. I would have thought it would have more blade feel. Did you play with the angle on the Athena ? With the right angle it should feel pretty gentle yet be very efficient or at least that's what it feels like to me when I go steep with a Gillette Nacet or Gillette Platinum in. Funny how the experience with all these razors is so subjective. I think the next razor on my radar to try is probably a Goodfellas smile Bayonetta, it is very affordable, made of unleaded brass and has a unique geometry that bends the blade a bit like the 3on6 but with a different gap and a exposure (0.65mm gap and 0.15mm positive exposure), the exposure seems scary number wise but lots of people say that due to the geometry it does not feel that aggressive. That being said I think it's a step above razors like the Athena etc, my guess is more like a Lupo 72 in or GC .84P range.
