A great man and a terrific role model for the males of this nation. There was a time when little boys looked up to Roy Rogers and the John Wayne characters. They wanted to be Policemen, Firemen, and play a good game of baseball. Who are the heroes today? I guess we're left with Raul Paul and Gangsta Rappers. How did we go so wrong?
I met him in 1960 and was in awe. It was at the premiere of The Alamo. He asked me what I wanted to do with my life. I said I wanted to be a soldier and peace officer like my father. He told me to do well in school. Protect my family. And be a good American standing against any enemy of our great nation. I took him at his word. A Silver Star and two Bronze Stars later, I truly understood his meaning. He, along with my father guided me to become the man I was to be. And anyone, and I mean anyone wants to speak ill of this man will be my enemy for life.
John Wayne will always remain a legend! His personal views are irrelevant! We shouldn't condemn anyone simply because they have different views from us!
I started out as boy with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and moved on to John Wayne as I got older. John Wayne was the man during my growing up years. He was bigger than life and was what they call today a boys role model. At eighty-four, I still smile and say “ thanks for the memories “.
I'm sure the late Governor of Alabama, George Wallace, was a wonderful family man and nice guy too. You'd love him! BTW please don't be late for your next 3K meeting.
But he agree with Hollywood to create and sell the public a FAKE image of who he really was. Director John Ford did PUSH him to get enlisted during the war but he never saw combat in an Australian base. Audrey Murphy, A REAL AMERICAN HERO !!!
As a black person, I strongly agree with his narrative. He was ahead of his time. he was not prejudice he was a realist. he was a very intelligent person and I respect him highly. his views were candid.
“I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on."I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.” There are lots of bad things that fall far short of being shot at.
In the preview icon to the right, who was the woman standing beside him with breasts like two gallon jugs in a push-up bra? I missed that reference, too.
I’m an old guy, age 75 a few months back. My ďad, a cowboy at heart watched John Wayne movies, sometimes with my mom. He really was a fan of JW as long as I remember. I șaw some with him but usually found a way to avoid them. One of my brothers and his wife gave my dad a tape player of some kind that he could use to watch JW movies at home. If I recall correctly, dad watched 2-3 JW tapes at first but didn’t like watching them alone. Not sure where the big box 0’ John Wayne tapes ended up but I remember that he watched a few of them. Mom avoided them as well. When dad died age 99, I was never able to decide where his VCR and tapes ended up, but I hope he enjoyed them. 😅😅😊
Howdy This is my HERO . He is a real icon , if they didnt named the country United States Of America, they might as well named it John Wayne . He really stand up for the country . Just love this . Thank you for posting this . Mike
I worked on Rio Lobo I was with him at the Tucson Airport in 1970, and he joined the shriners club. I liked him. He was a good guy. I made the jail set for the movie Rio Lobo. I saw the actors in the movie and his son John was sick when making it his stomach was weak he put bread and milk in a glass and ate that Rev Michael Allbright
Most everything in this “slash & burn” docu-smear” was so slanted filled with your personal disdain & hate for a hero of a man, a legend. Your seething jealous reels. You flat out lied about it was to share about his secretary. Nada! I’ll not listen to anything else you put out. By the way, don’t come to Texas, we love John Wayne. Mr. J.A.
What was the rumor? This is a good story about Mr Wayne's life, inside and outside of the Hollywood screen. Other than mentioning the secretary's book, liitle else is said. I like John Wayne movies but also like Randolph Scott and Joel McCrea westerns better.
John Wayne refused to fight in the second world war but years later he highly criticised the young men who wouldn't fight in Vietnam. It didn't stop him from playing the hero in many war films.
He did not refuse fool. He was initially declared Status 3A for being a single parent. Then he was remarried and went to the recruiting station, where he was disqualified medically for his surfing injury, his stuntwork and his age. Wayne went to a civilian doctor to get a second opinion, and that doctor wrote a letter to the Draft Board to accept him for military service, and he was. However, because he was threatened to be sued if he did leave Hollywood, the military decided it would be helpful for Wayne to keep entertaining and keep America's morale up. So, understand he was given every status possible, 3A, 4F, 1A, and finally 2A.
I always loved John Wayne Movies, especially The Searchers, North to Alaska, Rio Bravo and Stage Coach...just a lot of great memories. ...everybody's personal life is flawed...we're all human...but he turned God and that's what counts...Jesus forgives the repentant sinner where man seems to hold others accountable...Still love his movies!
Why doesn't anyone mention the interview with Muhammad Ali. I think it was a great man, certainly at least one of the best boxers of all time, but he had a very outspoken opinion and no one wants to show that video. I wonder why?
Typical comments meant to be unkind and nasty, oh well its the new world.. each has an opinion that should be heard. What also counts the love of his family which in the long run means more. John Wayne matters, as his love of country.
He was a sailor at heart (a motor sailor) as a local Newport beach kid in the Sixties we used to clean Waynes boat "the wild goose" on weekends. Not a horse painting or cowboy hat hanging in his house, just bottled ships & nautical related decor when he didn't wear his wig he wore his captain's sea cap. He was a bit of a bigot & racist but nothing near as bad as most a-holes that in John Birch's right wing Orange County in those days.
He wasn't fit enough to lace audie Murphy boots the most decorated soldier in the USA wayne wsnt even in the second world war yet he portrayed highest rank officer in war movies that was a joke
Good narrative, but the film editing was so poor. Almost no connection between what is being said and what is on the screen. It is like you could not be bothered to make then match.
Thanx for making this. Now I respect him even less. He is a perfect model for malignant narcissism. His epitaph is pure irony. I really hope to not leave such a legacy for myself.
An actor, not what depicted to be. Never served wwll as so many others.just an actor, doesn’t deserve the idolization he gets. Never liked his pushing of women around . Degrading.
An actor, is a lousy role model. It is all a make pretend life based on characters who are not them. Great movies and a great entertainer. A model in life? Look to people in your community. Your neighbor helping you fix your fence, shoveling the retired couples driveway. Sending his kids to shovel the hospitalized neighbors sidewalk so it is clear when they get home.
I love old Westerns. The modern ones are crap. But I was never a John Wayne fan. No reason, he just doesn't do it for me. I didn't watch the whole video, just the scandalous stuff. My only problem with any of that is that he was too LIBERAL. That said, I'd like to think that he was just being a bit diplomatic, and that his real views were more in line with what the vast majority of people thought before we all went left wing insane.
