As a fiercely proud Geordie,I am appalled to see this beautiful bridge in such a bad state ,it should never of been allowed to get in such a state. But the evil that is the Tory party is squarely to blame our region is probably the most neglected area in England, however we are a strong proud race up here and,as my gran would of said we may be lying doon but we're not deid yet!!! So onwards and upwards 🎉.Thank you Eddie love your channel keep up the great work.😊
@@megamega362 Your inherent bias and hatred are very clear to see. It is the Labour run Newcastle City Council and the Labour run Gateshead Council who are mostly to blame.
As a truck driver from Yorkshire I use the Tyne Bridge every week . The bridge has been looking decidedly shabby for the last few years , this is no way to treat such a monument ....and it is a monument to the North East absolutely . It will be a nuisance but , wow it will be worth it when its done . Stay safe all of you working on it 😊.
As a Geordie who now lives elsewhere, when I come back, I have to come over the Tyne Bridge (even though the tunnel is a lot more convienient for North Tyneside), When you cross the bridge, you know you're home!
Coming home on leave in the 70s, seeing the Tyne Bridge from the train window crossing the High Level always made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!
The North Bridge in Edinburgh has been going under a two year restoration then they found out that it needs more than that to bring back to a safe repair, it’s been a nightmare trying to work round it
Something so iconic having only been there since 1928! The architecture of Tyneside is amazing. Honestly when you come in from Carlisle on the train it really has a wow factor. Up there with the best of bridges
I was just about to ask about the GNR 😂 running it for the first time this year and glad we will still get to pass over the iconic bridge ! Informative as ever Eddie keep up the good work. 👍
Another interesting blog from a very knowledgeable man well done Eddy mate having lived down south for sometime now I love keeping up with my motherland keep up the fantastic work Eddy thanks
i drive over that Bridge most days.... seeing the tourists on it taking pics of our fine area and seeing how important it is really pee's me off knowing its a mess... i watched some adventurer type lad here on youtube climb it "illegally" on a video recently.... its quite nice on the very top lol... his video gave a whole new perspective if you find it... cheers Eddie... always a pleasure
I was born in the Bonny City of Newcastle upon Tyne.I am happy that the Tyne Bridge will be Updated.I am proud to be a Geordie.Howay my Lads and Lasses.❤️🥰❤️😍❤️.
Fabulous views of the bridge from the Gatesheed Hilton. 4 years of scaffolding might dampen the view. But think of how majestic it will look when the work is completed.
Excellent video Eddie, do you not think during the Four year shutdown the Council should have thought about completing the access stairs through the towers?
Oi oi Eddy it's true what you say about your videos mate. since watching your Geordie history videos I've been literally fighting the lasses off . My long suffering "beneficial friend-girl" is ower the moon with all of my new found polished up knowledge . Cheers bonny lad 🤝
Great video, Eddy! Giving the Tyne Bridge a good seeing to was never going to be a job that lasted a few months so I feel for those that are going to be caught up in the upheaval for the next few years. Will it get more folks onto the Metro, I wonder? And I echo the other comments on here about how the bridge has been allowed to get into this condition in the first place. I bet they aren't as negligent in Sydney!
I can remember when they returned it to green after it had been light blue,I hope they do a better job than the last team,it was supposed to be guaranteed for 20 years but faded in no time ! I’m glad they’re starting!
The iconic bridge, that’s when you knew you were back home! Bit like yourself Eddy, travelling round the world, dropping the lads off on the way - travelling vouchers were a god send back in the day! The Quayside as is, was derelict - funny how times change! Having seen the bridge at Sydney, larger version of ours - nothing takes away the value of the Tyne Bridge, even today!! Glad it’ll be sorted, eventually!!
A great video Eddie. It’s gonna have a big impact. I live in Durham and have school runs and kids football training etc. it adds masses of time on the journey. But, I love the city and the bridge is disgraceful. I tell u this, I’ll be happier sat on the busy Bridge than I was on the team valley. It’s good long term. Bringing the pride back.
Nothing to do with the councils it’s the Geordies letting it get that bad cause there to lazy to do anything about it wonder why they got a Swiss company to make the new metros yeah cause if it was left up to the Geordies you’d be getting the metros in 2050 😅😅
Shouldn't have been allowed to get that bad. , greedy. Tories, Should be looked after wor bridge, Always been the same tho London and everywhere else comes first before Newcastle/Gateshead, absolutely disgraceful. , Great video eddie you stay safe 👍
Hi Eddy Hope, I've recently discovered your channel and I absolutely LOVE it, I've got lots of videos to get through 😂 I love how informative you are! I'm trying to find your video about the towers on the Tyne bridge..... Could U send me a link to it please? It was my grandpa's company who installed the lifts! Thanks in advance if you see this 👍
Hi Amy, glad you’re enjoying them! 😃 I haven’t done video on the towers yet as the council didn’t respond to me. Have you seen the Tyne Bridge video? Tyne Bridge - Unveiling 10 Amazing things you never knew! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-koTAasjtOcQ.html
@@TynesideLife yes! I've watched the Tyne bridge one! It was fascinating! I've also watched the victoria tunnel one as me and my son did that tour last summer, I'm actually obsessed with your videos now, only discovered you tonight and already watched a good handful! I absolutely love your approach and how you know so many facts! Thank you for doing what you do! Your mint! 🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
Meant to have been going on for a while Eddie as you would know. Aye it does need done. Is the tax for larger vehicles such as ulez going through aswell?
I've been remarking to my friends/colleagues for years about the state of Tyne bridge. A great shame and very disappointing to see it, in its current state. I'm very glad to see the refurbishment begin and to see it get the love it deserves. However, 4 years is a long stretch... The disruption is understandable but the economy could do without the congestion/blockages.
Shame that, given we're being encouraged to use other routes into Newcastle, they're not dropping the cost of the Tyne Tunnel during the bridge repairs! 😞 I've done my dues over the last few years, daily metro to work with a small human including whilst the S.Tyneside line was closed, and whilst pregnant. But I draw the line at metro rush-hour with 2 smalls!
The most iconic gateway to an English city full stop. Not open to debate! My heart skips when I see it every time I come up to the Toon. Never tire of seeing it and never will. Lets hope the works go to plan and the Kittiwakes go easy on the grafters!
But if your crossing it going the other way...... you get Gateshead... a 💩 hole. Crossing one way you get to look at the awful architecture of the sage music venue and you get to see Tescos flats.
Great update Eddie, one pedantic note is the ‘Government funding’ is of course tax payer funding as there is no Government money’ I did wonder when the tired looking iconic landmark was going to get a facelift.
Certainly needs done but gunna be a nightmare this for getting to work traffic in gateshead can be bad already at times near town centre n looks like it will only get worse !!
@@TynesideLife gunna take ur advice eddie and bike it in swawell to washington not far from concord done it a few times takes me about 45 mins not to bad really a suppose
Here's my 2p... The amount they're about to spend on it... Prefab most of the bridge off site... Shut the old bridge and take it apart... Put the new parts in its place... Make a bigger, longer lasting, wider, higher bridge to the same design.
@@TynesideLife Eddy as I approach my 72 year as a born and bred Geordie who left his native home for a better life in Canada my heart will always be yem. For a few years now you have been the man who keeps me in touch and yes teaches me a lot about the fantastic history of our region. Could you get to Cragside and spread the word on more of Armstrongs legendary history? Knowing some of our regions history I'm thinking you have a job for life, many thanks.
Can't believe it was allowed to get into that state. When i walk over it i feel sad atm so glad it's being refurbished.. If tha same bridge was across the Thames it would have never gotten into that state.. London £££
Glad it’s finally getting sorted. Current state of it is embarrassing, it deserves so much better. Birds going out on loan to the swing bridge are they? 😂
I’m sure if it was that simple they would have done it. The High Level is a single lane carriageway that is in operation for buses and to allow cars to travel over would obviously cause a significant disruption to the public transport infrastructure, the very thing the government is trying to encourage during the refurbishment
@@TynesideLife Yes,i realise it would take a bit of planning and organisation considering that the gateshead side at Oakwellgate is now closed to everything but buses sand cyclists, but the bridge is physically wide enough for two way traffic and it managed okay for many decades beore the major refurbishment of the 2000's,i would have thought that the changes to the bridge and approach roads made since then are not irreversable
@gntdriver2840 the reversal of the current transport system and infrastructure on both sides of the bridge, which has only recently been completed and the disruption to the flow of buses over the bridge is clearly not a feasible plan and an added expense to the public purse that is just not available mate. Thanks for your comment 👍🏻
@@TynesideLife You are right of course ,it would all come down to money in the end. Also such a plan would heavily involve both Newcastle and Gateshead councils who are two of the most anti-motorist organisations in the country, and motorists should not expect any favours from them
Dennis, Oz and the rest of the lads, should dismatle it, and relocate it over St.James Park. Fit it out with seats and we've solved our increased capacity problem.
Who else do you think contributed to the building of it bud? The engineer Bradfield had a long term interest in the project and helped design it, but Dorman Long won the tender for its construction in 1924 and from my research completed the job.
I walk by the Tyne bridge regularly and it is in desperate need of a decent paint job. It had one a few years ago but it never lasts. I think it’s the pollution from the cars. If only there was a paint that would last a century. The Tyne Bridge is if not the icon of the North East and to see it looking shoddy is embarrassing.
"It was opened on the 10th of October 1928 by King George V and HIS LASS Queen Mary"! Brilliant! Sheer brilliant! I don't know about my situation. Two days from now on April 11 it will be the final 100 days until I fly to Spain with "my lass". On July 19 I will be using the bridge to go the airport for the overnight stay at the Hilton (hopefully). I should be over around 4:45ish. I am unsure as to the volume of traffic at that time. Can anyone help me give an estimation of what to expect of the volume of traffic northbound at that time? Will it be heavy or light? I am not bothered by how many lanes are open. Only by how much traffic I can expect to be a part of.

Wtf is it with closing lanes. I put the scaffold on it back in 85 and there was no closures. It’s the modern health and safety regs going bonkers. It’s also utter shite that they’ve let it become a kittiwake sanctuary. They should be doon the coast. Also the bird shit from them and the pigeons contributes towards the rot
