The new Yeelight Cube Smart Lamps are due out soon, and we've been lucky enough to be trying them out to find the good and bad. Luckily there's very little to complain about, although there's always room for improvement.
What's great is that these work with Matter out of the box, meaning they're instantly compatible with All the main ecosystems too - Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings.
These cubes come in three different types - Panel, Matrix, and Spot, with each offering unique attributes, but When combining them, you get a lot of options to present some wild effects. In order for them to function, you'll need at least one base sold either as a starter pack or available for purchase separately, which is the device that connects to your smart home.
You can save some money by pre-ordering these cubes as part of an "Early Bird" pricing option from Yeelight's own IndieGogo crowdfunding page via the link below;

The super early bird price of a cube standard pack (containing 1 x Cube, 1 x base, and 1 x power adapter) is under US$60; a single extension pack is under US$35. There are also several combos offering more discounts, which you can check out on the website for further info.

Great video. As my eyes are getting older, having a clock like this in the room is both useful and fun!

Hopefully as they add more features to the app, it’ll have even more functionality.

Thanks for actually showing what the spotlight could be useful for. Other content creators didnt even feature it in their videos. Terrible.

Thanks for picking up on this detail. I think it’s important.

As I've just ordered a big set of these for a work project, I have been rewatching some of these video for inspiration. Having now seen more of the reviews from HomeKit News and Reviews, this may be one of the few/only time(s) I have heard you say that you will be getting more of these. I recognize that for many products, the review accessory is everything needed. However, for everything else, I took this as a good sign of overall interest in the product.

Thanks. Yes, it is probably the only time I’ve said something like that in a video. I guess the modular nature of it makes getting more a bit more enticing. The only downsides for me are the lack of an option to trigger any of the specific scenes on their app to HomeKit, which is used with companies like Nanoleaf and Onvis, so it’s possible. I also wish it wasn’t WiFi, but I know that doesn’t bother everyone

What happens if you have the clock mode enabled in the Yeelight App and then change color/brightness in HomeKit? Does the clock mode stay active with that or do all 25 pixels per cube light up then?
@homekitnews
@homekitnews Год назад
Hi, because the ‘clock’ feature is a specific mode, any colour change in the Home app will remove the clock and replace it with solid colour (all pixels on). However, brightness in the Home app doesn’t change the clock, so whether you have any of the specific colour options chosen in Yeelight’s app for the clock - including any of the multicolour options, you can adjust the brightness without the clock vanishing.

@@homekitnews Ok, that‘ll be a little bit tricky, I‘ll have to see how that works out. Thanks for the explication!

Other than using it as a very expensive clock. I dunno what else to use it for. I need to buy the standard kit which has 6 cubes

I think for people that use a PC with Razer Chroma, they may get more out of this (gaming or just viewing videos on the screen), but hopefully they’ll expand the use cases with this going forward. What I think would be useful once they add better integration with HomeKit Scenes and Automations, is using the Matrix Cubes when triggered by specific devices, or switching to different presets once they add schedules and timers to their app. I was told by a colleague yesterday that Siri Shortcuts is possibly one option, with the use of ‘webhooks’. He’s looking into it and will have an answer once he gets his Cube order.

Use it as a very expensive music visualiser.

Can it show follower count or stock price?

Not at present. Maybe with a future update it’ll be able to do more, but right now, the clock is the only option.

US, UK, and EU, but no AU. 🤮 Can people please just start using figure 8 connectors or something, or come up with a standard for international plugs...
@homekitnews
@homekitnews Год назад
It should be possible to find a replacement power supply with the right specs and an AU plug. I can give you the specs if you want them.
@trejkaz
@trejkaz Год назад
@@homekitnews if I got one I'm sure I'd be able to figure it out, it's more the annoyance at the accumulating e-waste from all these non-working plugs, while the standard figure 8 connector already exists.
@homekitnews
@homekitnews Год назад
@@trejkaz yes, I understand your point. It seems the base could probably accommodate one of the 8 style sockets.
