Utterly mad respect for not only creating unnecessarily beautiful stop-motion animations but that that extra step of listing your supplemental parts and paints. As always a joy to watch, thank you.
Nice work, but most people do not know that NAA (North American Aviation) filled the rivets and panel lines on the wings to make them more aerodynamically efficient only the gun servicing doors were not puttied over because of they were opened and closed routinely, so the use of the riveting tool was not needed especially on the lower fuel tank skins on the bottom of the wings. Just and FYI (I've have been on a restore team on a few P-51's & A-26's)
3 things I found Wrong with this build. #1. Landing Gear is on BACKWARDS, the Scissors are supposed to face the Rear. #2, The "D/F Loop" was only used on Pacific/Asia P-51D's. #3. You forgot to paint the tips of the Propeller Blades "Yellow".
Thank you for the corrections. Ad 1. You're right. The original had it vice versa. Unfortunately I strictly followed the kit's plan Ad 2. / 3. I didn't know - I used the scheme of the box art with decals from the kit. There weren't any yellow tips on the blades. But it doesn't mean I was right though...
I could never have such patience nor skill but I'm glad you've helped me imagine the work as close to perfection can be I'm happy with that. Great visual as expected from top to bottom. So the background music is so great too

More than that, they convey the notion that things that bring great beauty and deeper reward into this world come only with hard, disciplined work over long periods. Gorgeous work, as always, Tom. I do love your stop-motion videos. If you are at all like me, and you've seen close to several million P-51 models, the stop-motion photography is a welcome addition. Still hoping you will document how you do this in a future tutorial. I know I could have some fun doing it, but it would take a pretty tall lift to do it better than you. Peace
The amount of time, patience and skilled craftsmanship this must have required is amazing, and to think you could have just made a timelapse of you assembling it, you made it in stop motion to give it that touch of care and passion. I think this and all your other vids like this deserve Oscars. I dont make models but man these are good. You've got a new subscriber.
You sir are "insane", and I mean that in the best way possible. I hope more people would appreciate just how much time and patience it takes to make a stop motion video like this.

Nice job Tom. Col. Eaglestons 51, I built his P-47. I does not surprise me Hobby Boss had you mount the gear backwards. But, saying that a number of builders have done the same.
Beautiful build Tom. I’m less impressed with Hobby Boss’ rendition of the Mustang than I am the Tamiya, Eduard and maybe Airfix offerings, but your assembly and finish coupled with your stop motion skills make the kit shine. Smaller, quicker project than that 1/24 Airfix Hellcat you did in your last vid for sure. Thanks for sharing this.
Interesting that you should prime in white before applying the metal colors. I was under the impression that you needed black primer for that. But the result speaks for itself. Beautiful! Great work as always. 👍
@@TomGrigat Hmmm,... I used _matt_ black on the first one that I did, and it looks fine. Maybe I will try glossy the next time and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the input.

Yet another masterpiece highlighted by wonderful animation. One question: I note that one panel (maybe more) on the top of the left wing was gray. Was this to denote a repair? Also, do you ever include battle damage (e.g., bullet/shrapnel damage) on your aircraft? I, for one, really liked the stressed aluminum you did on one of your B-17s. Lastly, I'd love to see you do a model of my dad's B-24D of the 44th BG which he piloted on the Ploesti raid of Aug. 1, 1943. His was one of the groups detached from the 8th AF in England whose aircraft were olive green vs. the "pink" or tan ones of the 9th AF flying out of Benghazi at the time. Thanks again for a terrific demonstration of craft and art.
Thanks for your kind words - regarding the panel: it was some sort of a mistake. I just tried to achieve a bit of a different shade to the other panels. Just to get a variation... And it was the first time with a new paint. I emphasized it too much. I learnt a lot with it - even about my impatience 😂😂😂

All that amazing detailed work and I have to ask; Rubber thread, is that going to last very long? Apart from that, obviously, amazing as always and await the next vid with anticipation.
To be honest, I don't know how long the rubber thread will last. I use it for almost every rigging purposes. Some of those models are older than four years and still under tension...
@@TomGrigat I just say this as I have RC planes stored with stretched rubber bands holding wings on and they degrade to goo within months as opposed to stored unstretched rubber bands that are fine.(OK, out of atmospheric conditions) but stretching rubber seems to have an effect on longevity. Maybe the 2 scenarios are just different. Thx for the reply :-)
Hallo deutscher Kerl 😀 Super animiert, das animiert sogar mich, mal wieder modellbaumäßig aktiv zu werden. 😉 Mustangs der 8th AF in Europa hatten übrigens kein Antennenkabel, das machen viele Modellbauer falsch. Hobby Boss hat (wie Trumpeter bei der 32er Mustang auch) den unteren Rand der verschiebbaren Cockpithaube deutlich zu schmal dargestellt. Habe stattdessen die neue Revell P-51 D gebaut, ein toller Bausatz!
Es freut mich, dass dir das Video gefällt und dass es dich zum Modellbauen erneut motiviert. Vielen Dank für die Hinweise zur Mustang und zum Modell - ich habe leider erst im nachhinein festgestellt, dass Hobby Boss ein paar Fehler eingebaut hatte, denen ich nur zu gern gefolgt bin... Ich arbeite gerade an einer Mustang von Eduard und schaue mal, ob ich da einiges wieder gut machen kann 😅
@@TomGrigat Hobby Boss und Trumpeter haben oft Fehler, deshalb kaufe ich keine Modelle mehr von diesen Herstellern. Die 32er Revell P-51 D 5 NA (frühe Ausführung) ist dagegen wirklich klasse!
It's models like these that end up on big screens..I mean take a photo in the right angle with some ww2 airfield and wallah you will think it's the real thing! Fantastic job 👍
Love the eagle decal! Most nose art gravitate towards half nude ladies. But the oleo struts should face the tail. Otherwise I'm amazed at the astounding detail! One thing missing - an animated pilot marching towards the plane like in Tom's F-104 Starfighter video.
Great job, one thing however. Hobbyboss molded the torque links backward. They should be on the rear of the struts. Nice that you replaced them, but they should be rotated 180 degrees.
I know it's possible but I think P-51Ds don't come with radio direction finder loop. In any case the loop looks too thick and out of scale. Also, as had been pointed out, the oleo links are installed backwards. Not Tom's fault but the manufacturer's error.
Yes again amazing... but this could be an after-war version as the 51D's (in WW2 Europe) didnt need the aerial wire for their radio sets as the USAF used a frequency high enough not to need the wire :)
