The worst thing I did was buy a couple of self watering pots for my water loving plants. Even with the indicator showing no water, the soil is soaking wet. Also had the same problem using a moisture meter. Said plants needed watering when they didn't. So back to old school...how heavy is the pot and plunging my finger in. But, game changer, are see through pots. Not only can you check the roots without disturbing the plant, but you can see where the moisture level is. As I mostly bottom water, the top of the soil is nearly always dry, so I can use a visual check as a back up. Mind you, I only have about 100 plants and they are considerably smaller than yours, but it might help someone. The other advantage of bottom watering is that the top of the soil is too dry for fungus gnats...yey!

I killed a jade plant once because it was sunny and I popped it outside for some big sun time, while I was out walking my dog we had a big rain storm. The damage was done! I even changed the soil to dry stuff, it just fell apart. I was heartbroken because I'd had it years and grew it from a tiny cutting.
