Yellowjackets Live From Birdland, June 15 2023 7pm show. With Bob Mintzer (tenor sax, EWI), Russell Ferrante (piano/keyboard), Dane Alderson (electric bass), William Kenedy (drums).
One of the best Jazz quartets on the planet. I thought Jimmy Haslip could never be replaced. This kid is a fantastic player and fit with the band. They dug deep, playing Dreamland and Freida.
Yeah, Dane is unbelievable. But Jimmy is doing very well with keyboard wizard Jeff Lorber. Just came out with a new record call “the drop.” And Jimmy is just grooving on that track.😌🎶👍🏾
why did you think Haslip could never be replaced ? hat's not how music works. You give your unique contribution to whatever you are involved in...and move on, but you can definitely be replaced.
I saw them in Luxembourg some years ago and it was a fantastic show. I met Dane Alderson just before the show and he treated me like a real gentleman and even invited me to share some pics with him and Russell Ferrante after the concert. Thank you Dane if you read this message and please keep on playing these wonderful NYBW 4/5/6 fretted/fretless instruments. It is a real joy to see Dane Alderson replacing Jimmy Haslip, my dream would be to see a 3 hours show with the Yellowjackets...1,5 hour with Jimmy Haslip back on his MTD 6-string fretless and then 1,5 hour with Dane Alderson on his NYBW Cremona 5-strings Fretless...It does not cost anything to keep dreaming...
Positively some of the greatest musicians alive today. Certainly one of the all time greatest Jazz quartets ever. No matter how many times I hear them i’m flabbergasted every single time! And listening to them at work definitely helps you get through the day. #TheYellowJackets
After so many years and so many upheavals, finaly still there, with always so personal compositions, such a unique sound. A real band so rare nowadays.
Also I have another statement; They is NO replacement for William Kennedy ! My admiration and appreciation also to Mr Ferrante and Mr Mintzer, Yellowjackets at the best!
What more can be said about this fusion supergroup.I learnt what is fusion way way back to the early 80 s with their debut album.Must confess though i really miss Jimmy Haslip on that bass.He was part of the original Yellow Jackets sound
Love Jimmy Halslip too. The Spin was my first Yellow Jackets CD. Probably still my favorite.❤ But really Love Livewire and Like a River running a teal close second.
Wow.!! Dane's solo at 36:30 is one of the best fretless solo's I've heard in probably 30yrs..not since Gary Willis and TT have I been that moved by a fretless passage..not just the solo but sound, tone, tuning, intonation, tenderness, note choice and emotion..this guy's really in tune with music and it's ability to stir up a listener's emotion..don't hate but I think he's more expanded (harmonically) and is a deeper player then Haslip was/is when he was with the band..nothing bad against Jimmy, that guy is badass, but I really love the "new" Jackets..
I Love, and miss, Jimmy Halslip too. The Spin was my first Yellow Jackets CD. Probably still my favorite.❤ But really Love Livewire and Like a River running a real close second. William Kennedy is definitely one of my favorite Drummers❤❤❤
I used to go and hear Dane in Perth, Western Australia when he was in a band called Void (with Troy Roberts on sax). I first heard Yellowjackets in the US (Fort Lauderdale) in 1984. I also heard them in the UK (Manchester) in 1992.
Never having been a full time musician it's very difficult for me to understand how they can remember all that music. I have seen several early videos where there were music stands for Dane, but almost no one ever besides him. I don't remember what I had for breakfast and I'm younger than some of these guys. Not by much, tho.
I thought, that a replacement for Jimmy Haslip, would be very difficult, but , they found Dane Alderson , and I have to tell you . I don’t miss at all the former bassist. My son was this year in Birdland, an he have the chance to talk to Dane, and let him know my statement.
Love the music. Really hate the number of ads that there are in this video. And they show up at the most interesting times in the music and interrupt the flow. The experience is diminished. Can we not time the commercials to be between songs? What year is it?
We've streamed three of Peter's guest appearances at Guitar Night as well as a show with his quartet. Kurt Rosenwinkel lives and Berlin and is only in NYC when he has a gig with his own band so he's unlikely to be a guest for guitar night
man i love the marc russo time ! ok they made great records with the actual sax ( greenhouse ) but the magic has gone away ! i love the romantic pieces with MARC RUSSO ...the album "politics " for exemple ! sorry its cool but the guy is not russo ! THE genius !
