This is the full length trip report with natural sounds and on-trail commentary from a trip that I took to Yellowstone National Park in July 2023. I hiked a route that included Black Canyon, Yellowstone River, Hellroaring Creek, Coyote Creek, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, Buffalo Plateau, Buffalo Creek, Slough Creek and more.
Starting from Blacktail Creek Trailhead the route totaled around 37 miles. My campsites were 1Y8, 2C1 & in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness.

Great video! Thanks so much for sharing your trips. I would love to do some more trips in the Beartooths someday. Did most of the Beaten Path trail in the Beartooths a few years ago and that was breathtaking. Looking forward to some Glacier National Park videos from you in the future.

Thanks for the support Jason! I hope to spend more time up that Beartooths way as well. I’ve got some awesome Glacier adventures filmed and aim to release them over the summer while I’m guiding up there

Terrifying and exciting bear encounter! Yes! That pilot was a member of the Layne Fan Club. He was going to catch a glimpse of his hero, FAA be damned.

Too funny Seth! I got a lol out of that one. Maybe I should offer a meet and greet package so fans don’t have to go to such great lengths

Hello Layne, Greetings from sunny Spain! First of all, congratulations for the channel, I really enjoy your videos. I'm so excited to be preparing for my trip to Yellowstone for mid-July next year! I've already planned out a route that includes sections from this video. I'm so excited to share my plan! I'll be starting at Slough Creek TH and making my way to Frenchy Meadows, where I'll be spending the night. On the next day, I'll take the Bull Creek Trail to Buffalo Fork Shelter, and from there I'll go to Telephone Basin, where I'll sleep. On the third day, I'll go through Elk Creek Basin to connect with Coyote Creek Trail (from here it's the section you did), and then Poacher Trail to Buffalo Plateau. I was wondering if there was a good place to pitch a tent in this area because where you slept on the last day is too far from Telephone Basin. The backpacking trip will be about 53 miles-an amazing distance to cover!

Hola Alejandro, Good luck on your preparation to Yellowstone! That's some wild country with plenty of bears there outside the Park. I hope you have prior experience in grizzly country along with friends that have the same. You could aim for the closest Coyote Creek site in the Park (2C2). There wasn't much in the way of established campsites across Buffalo Plateau until Buffalo Creek where I stayed. Stay safe!

Well, THAT was nerve-wracking! After the bear incident, how far did you have to walk before you could change your underwear? Great job! Thanks!

Well it was about a mile before I turned the camera back on! It was definitely a nerve-wracking encounter. The magic of Yellowstone!
