Early results following a Pec Major tear reconstruction of a 2.5 year old chronic tear.

⚠️ If you have any questions leave them 👇 in the comment section. I’ll do my best to help.

My best advice:
✅ No tear is too old to surgically reconstruct.
✅ Myotendinous (muscle) tears can indeed be repaired.
✅ You can’t always trust the MRI. Nothing beats a good physical exam by someone with experience. •

Doc, many are still asking why the injured pectoralis has been reattached after surgery, and returned to lifting and the muscles have grown, but the appearance of the muscle still seems incomplete, or its the surgeon didnt do the same technique that you are doing like the achilles allograft

@@SharmainTang0809 In some cases a subtle difference remains. Sometimes the tear is not completely repaired.

What is the price for this surgery?

It varies depending on the chronicity, #of grafts and surgical time. It can run anywhere from 12-18 thousand USD.

Hi Dr Mora, curious to know how much would the out of pocket cost be for a surgery like this for a patient with a BCBS PPO plan?
@SteveMoraMD
@SteveMoraMD Год назад
Hello, thank you for reaching out. We do our very best to look into what your insurance can cover. Sometimes they can cover the anesthesia cost, the surgery center cost and part of the technical cost but they never cover it all mostly because of the need for cadaver tissue. Please reach out to my surgery coordinator at 714-332-5498. She can figure out what your out-of-pocket would be. Ty.

Amazing results! I'm so happy to find your Channel certainly the best source for pectoralis tear injuries on RU-vid! I am in a predicament with my pec tear injury, if you can provide any input or comments/ advice I would greatly appreciate it: SUMMARY of my dilemma: 1) should I get pec tear tendon repair surgery now ( by 11/31) with my great local Melbourne FL ortho surgeon or 2) Wait to see a Dr Matthew Steibel in Palm Beach FL, by 12/12, He specializes in chronic pec tears + more experience, then I may have to wait for surgery until Jan or ? My injury occurred on 10/8/23., got an MRI 11/9, visited my local ortho on 11/15. DETAILS of my dillema: I'm a professional bodyboarder from FL/OBX, and I got a Pectoralis Major injury while surfing during Hurricane Philippe, in Outer Banks of North Carolina. The mechanics of the trauma was almost identical to a bench press + more violent. Shockwave of the lip of wave exploded under my board causing my arm to snap back violently, I heard my tendon snap underwater. My youtube channel shows the wave that caused my injury. My local ortho surgeon, he said that I'm a candidate for surgery, there's a 40% chance that the surgery might not be successful because my PEC tear has already started healing. Meanwhile I found an orthopedic surgeon Dr Matthew Steibel in Palm Beach FL, specializes in chronic PEC tears. Dr. Stiebel learned a unique pec repair technique from Dr. Anthony Schepsis, @ Boston University, surgeon credited with developing repair techniques. I made an appointment unfortunately I can't get in to see him until December 12th . Also I found your channel! I'm in a real dilemma of should I wait and try to get into the surgeon who has more experience or should I get the surgery as soon as possible with a surgeon who has slightly less experience considering this is a time-sensitive injury and I'm at the borderline between an acute and a chronic injury(?) On top of that the holidays have made scheduling extremely difficult. My goals are to retain strength and above ALL to get back in the water. For me shape is not as important. My case is a prime example of why when you get injured you should go to the doctor immediately and do not delay. At this point I will go to the ends of the Earth and do anything to improve the outcome of my injury. I am open to travelling anywhere to improve my outcome probability. Perhaps I can schedule a televisit with you if you could review my MRI and provide some detailed insight? Any comments or input you can provide I would greatly appreciate it, I am sorry this is so long, Thank you so much for putting these videos out, they give hope to those of us with this injury. Hey Dr, just wondering would you recommend surgery on a partial pec tear of the major tendon from humerus? Approximately 2.5cm avulsion or would non op be a better treatment?
@SteveMoraMD
@SteveMoraMD 7 месяцев назад
Hello. Surgery is recommended if you have significant loss of function, and or the appearance of the chest wall is not satisfactory to you. It’s not a simple surgery, however and most of the time insurance does not cover the whole thing. I’ll be happy to do a virtual educational session if you wish. You can obtain information on my webpage Myorthodoc.Com. I hope that information helped.

My ortho told me that he can’t fix my pec tear because I tore it in a part that’s not fixable. “Full thickness myotendinous rupture of the left pect major with regional interstitial fluid/ hermatoma and muscle edema. Should I seek a 2nd opinion. He compared it to sowing two pieces of meat together

They are hard to repair bc they require a graft. I do these frequently. Lmk if I can help. I posted a number of videos on RU-vid as well as on my Instagram feed @pectearMD

Thank you. It’s been 5 weeks. How long is too long before it’s not fixable? I’ve been to two doctors In my network who said they can’t repair it. I’ve only been able to find one doctor in Las Vegas who is willing to repair it but he’s not on my Workers Comp panel since it happened at work :/ It’s been extremely fustrating

Hey doc. I had a pec injury over a year for my right pec. I was doing pull ups and I strained my pec and it hurt. I could barely lift my arm. I went to the doctor and had an MRI. They said I didn’t tear it and that physically therapy was optional. I like three months of physical therapy and stayed in the gym. I was doing like 10 pound dumbbells at first. Now it’s been over a year and I’m barely benching 30-35Ib dumbbells. I can lift my arm but I still that soreness and weakness. When I bench I feel tension on the pec. Did I tear my muscle or not? The pec behaves the same as the other but is much smaller and weaker.

Hello. Sorry to hear about your chest. Hard to know whether it’s torn without an exam. At this point an MRI does not always reveal the tear. Best way to tell is by doing a good examination and looking for asymmetry.

@@SteveMoraMD Yeah it’s been very frustrating. How do I go about doing an exam and looking for asymmetry? It’s much smaller than the other pec. From what I can tell it never ripped off the bone

Hey doc. I had my pec tendon surgery repair last march. However I still have a defect, and a cord like structure in my armpit that goes to my elbow. Please help, I need relief and answers as my ortho isn't giving them. Thank you.
@SteveMoraMD
@SteveMoraMD 8 месяцев назад
The cord is a common finding in partial tears. In my experience a second procedure is necessary to fix the problem.
