I am one of those Yes fans who appreciates both their 70s and 80s output. Sure, 90125 ain't full on prog rock, but people shouldn't expect the unreasonable! It's an excellent pop rock album with prog touches, and I love it. 🙃
Absolutely! "Hearts" is perhaps the best track on the album. A soaring track, full of warmth and so...well......heart-felt. The perfect way to bring this masterpiece of an album to a close.
When I had the vinyl, always thought the first side was one of the best every recorded. Owner of a lonely heard, Hold on, It can Happen and Changes. Incredible.
@@saurian11 And “Cinema” leading to “Leave It.” They won a Best Instrumental” Grammy for “Cinema.” They belong together for me - the two songs together were how they started concerts at that time 🙂
@ I thought you had! I do it loads. But “Cinema” and “Leave It” are sooo briliant. Apparently there is a 20-minute version of Cinema, but I can never find it ❤️
Thanks for reacting to this great song. The keyboard player Tony Kaye was one of the original members of Yes. He left the band after completing 'The Yes Album' and was replaced by Rick Wakeman. He rejoined the band when Wakeman left for a few albums.
Hi Guys, this is such a great album. I remember they did a live concert promoting the albums release on tv, and it was such a surprise. I had no idea about this new album, so to see Trevor Rabin take front of stage. It was at first "Where's Jon" ? He was stood at the back. Trevor & Chris front of stage. Chris dominated the stage more than Trevor. He has a much stronger presence. The music from this album live is brilliant. It was actually amazing to see Trevor do the guitar solo to "Owner of a lonely heart" to perfection, using the guitar effects button perfectly timed with the sudden change output exactly like the studio version. The concert ended with "Starship Trooper" where all the scaffolding above began to slowly descend all over the stage, literally stopping on the stage at various angles blocking off everyone on it, restricting their movements so it looked in the end the scaffolding had collapsed all around them. Excellent concert I actually taped on a vhs video tape....and still have. Of course I then bought the album on vinyl and then out came another called " 90125 - Live the Solos" Which is a great album to go along side. They should have released again on cd with both. That would have been awesome. "Changes" is an excellent track and the rest of the album is full of brilliant music. It's a more rock orientated but refreshing change to their sound which was no bad thing at the time as it worked. Byee Jim X
My 1st concert was 90125 in May of 84. This was the first song of the show. That low note that Tony Kaye hits shook the whole auditorium. Great show with all 90125 songs plus classics from 70s. Starship Trooper finale and Roundabout encore. Perfect show!!!🎉❤😊
The one and only time I saw Yes live was in the early 2000s when they came to San Diego and played at Humphrey’s by the Bay. A great number of kayakers and boat owners parked their vessels right next to the hotel, which is right next to the water. The opening act was Procol Harum. This was an unforgettable summer evening with two bands I grew up listening to.
I love that you love him and were able to both be in his energy! Seen Yes many times and Jon solo twice here in Seattle. At both solo gigs, Alan White was also in the audience with his wife, sitting with Jon's. Pleasure to shake Alan's hand firmly thrice. Once in a bar after a Sonics game. 😊
Hello NicknLex, how are you? this is my favorite YES song, Love will find a way is my second favorite YES song, sorry, I remember this from my youth, I listened to a lot of MTV and the radio as a kid, this was played on the radio a lot, Love this song, Thank you.
I saw Jon with the Band Geeks in KC this summer…Carl Palmer opened for them! I was in heaven the entire night. I think this era of Yes is what kept the band name alive, to be honest. I think you’d really enjoy checking out the ABWH album (Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman and Howe) - especially “Brother Of Mine.”
It's funny that people have a fixed idea of what Yes sounds like. That varies according to which part of their catalogue you engage with first. I think this album is true prog in that they're continually moving forward and changing. So good
Like someone else here in the comments section already noted, this album was also my introduction to the band, with "Changes" being my favorite song off the album, and still my favorite Yes song ever, period. Not sure if this has been brought up before, but for this album the band was initially dubbed "Cinema", not "Yes" (long story), and had planned to move their sound into a more commercialized direction. Trivia: "Cinema" was used the title for the album's lone instrumental, and ended up winning Yes their only Grammy award. Super trivial: most people pronounce this album "nine-oh-one-two-five".
The passage of time has been kinder to this period of YES for me. It was all about Marillion for me at this point of time. Enjoy it more these days. Cheers Nickn Lex. 😍🎵🎵🤘
Hi Nick and Lex, my favorite Yes album, Jon Anderson is the man that can still sing that and any other yes song today. I am a fan of Trevor because of his harder approach and amazing ideas he has for arrangements etc. Top notch music from back then and still is now, enjoy. Thankyou, P.S. I saw the boss lurking in the background, keeping an eye on you two. Cheers.
90125 was one of the first two albums I ever bought with my own money. It began my love of Yes and led me right down the hole to their entire catalogue. Trevor Horn's production on this album is excellent. There really isn't a bad track on it. I highly recommend listening to, "It Can Happen", and, "City Of Love", from this album as well. Both great tracks.
The last must have Yes album for me. Classic cut along with the songs Hold On, It Can Happen, and Leave It. If you want a harmony song from this album you want Leave It. Most complete song on the album and one you both would really enjoy is Hearts. Great harmonies with Jon and Trevor, great message and just a great song. So glad you got to see Jon Anderson. He still sounds absolutely fantastic. Great reaction 👍🎶❤. More Yes is always welcome. P.S. Just saw King Crimson Beat tour last week. Out of this world good. Keep on rockin power couple.
As as long as it has Jon Anderson and Chris cSquire it’s YES 4 me. Those are the two quintessential elements. Again for me, my preferences. Great Reaction. I don’t have a problem with the fact that bands don’t play the exact same music their whole lives. Creative people like to try new things they’re not robots.
I think it's an insult to Steve Howe whose guitar work has often been the music of Yes to just say that Yes is a covers band. I know Jon A is a big miss but if you know the history of Yes then you know why.
Hi, I love and respect your passion for Steve Howe and you are correct. Yes would not have been yes without his contributions. But as the band aged and broke apart with different variations for me Squaite’s bass playing was always an attraction. LOL I’m a bass player and Anderson voice, IS sort of unplaceable. That being said Howe is a great contributor musician and writer, but if I only had to go with two people from the band. It would be Squire and Anderson. Fortunately we don’t have to make those choices and we have a huge catalog with lots of interesting variations to listen to.
Great to see your appreciation for this!! Definitely recommend "It Can Happen" and "Hold On" from this album. The first time I saw Yes was on the Close to the Edge tour in 1973, and most recently John Anderson, Trevor Rabin (RAY-bin), and Rick Wakeman in 2016. An absolutely phenomenal show!! I still love this album as well as 80s and 90s Yes. Also, if you look at the side of a vinyl album cover it will show the artist, the name of the album, and the inventory number designated to that album by the record company. The inventory number of this album was 90125, which the band used as the title.
This iteration of the band struck perfectly with the times. The 80s and where music was going, Yes fit perfectly with that current scene. They were at the very top of the scene and it gave the band new life. Their old way would not have made it through that era. This is a great song. Definitely a hidden gem. so deep and emotionally charged. More of a progressive edge on this one. Trevor Rabin definitely shows his written prowess in this one, along with his great vocals. This iteration has more sides with the dual lead vocals of Jon Anderson and Trevor Rabin.
When 90125 was published I was 17 years old and this album was my entry to Yes. I really love this album, especially Changes. And I am also hearing the one or the other Rush element.
Ah yes, the cassette tape (and only cassette tape that we had) that accompanied me and my best friend in 1986 when we skipped school for 4 days and took a 1973 Olds 98 on a 10 hour trip from the metro Detroit area to the UP of Michigan. No spare tire, 135,000 mile rust bucket, but one of the best trips as a 17 year old kid. (Oh the stories I could tell). Long story short, we made it, the cassette made it, but the car died right after :)
First time visiting! Back when, I was into the older stuff and not this album but now this is older so I can like it now 😉 Great Reaction! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Been a Long time fan and this album changed my life. Changes resonated with me and gave me strength to leave an abusive relationship and and start over! The tour was great and they sounded incredible! They had Lasers and also had a woman dressed in a white flowing costume that danced around all night -dancing thru the crowd on the floor- with a spotlight on her(Jane?) ❤ Can’t wait til you get thru this album so can just throw it on and give a straight thru listen!! Best way to hear the album.
Love watching your videos! 90125 is definitely an album you can do a deep dive with. If you want to do yourselves a favor, you should check out Hearts.
Yup, "Anti-Progressive" Rockers, I mean it figures why it won a Grammy. But I do enjoy the album. I was late seeing them, so it was my 1st YES Concert. But I had already gone backwards into their catalogue when 1st hearing "Drama" and absorbed all their albums before 90125.
I'm very pleased you listened to this Nick and Alexia. In my previous comments I have encouraged you to listen to 90125, and now you are! The whole album would be great but if it has to be track by track I would suggest 'It Can Happen', 'Hold On', 'Our Song', 'City Of Love' and the one that will really mess with your pre-conceived idea of Yes, 'Leave It'. I can't wait to see you react to that song! It's a shame for new-ish Yes fans like yourselves that you have to bounce around between albums, eras, decades and line-ups of this great band. At least we could roll with the punches in real time and come to terms with their evolution at our own speed. I'm sure it must be confusing for you at times, for me my life was mapped out according to Yes album releases!
Every Track from 90125 sounded great in the live arena !! Rabin sang on the Tracks before Jon Anderson Joined the Band again. Trevor Horn the 90125 Record producer was the vocalist on the Drama Album replacing Jon Anderson for the one album try Live Yes from the 1980's or Real Love from The TALK ALBUM IS A GEM Rabin played the older Yes pieces in his own style Chris Squire asked him to put his own spin on the music !! live Starship Trooper from 1984 Show in Germany is amazing with Trevor Rabin on Guitar
90125 was originally supposed to come out under the name Cinema. It became a Yes album because so many of the band were Yes. Also, 90125 is not only the title of the album but the label’s catalogue number as well!
Wakeman plays on 5 Yes studio albums. Kaye plays on 5 Yes Studio albums. I was ready to say no way, but after thinking about it you're right! TFTO could make Wakeman 5.5 albums? 🤣🤣
I so love how, when Jon came in, Lex smiled, and pointed it out, and then her face just melted into this smile, and she said, "I love that man!".......That was perfect! I feel exactly the same way about Jon! ❣ "90125" was the last Yes album I bought in any form. I really DO like that album, despite having no Steve!!! I really loved the way they combined the vocals to include Trevor! Yet, I didn't buy anything else after that. Great reaction!!!!👌
Great album, with all great songs. Actually my favorite, saw them on this tour. Jon Anderson was not supposed to sing on this album, as they were going to be called by a different name - Drama. Eventually he joined, hence taking the Yes name once again.
If you are a fan on John Anderson, you can check out his post Yes music: Jon and Vangelis, the song is Friends of Mr. Cairo, long track but good. Very different from rest of his career.
