The simplest solutions are always the best. Good work.

Any chance you could share a diagram of the passive lock mechanism? I like that design and am considering something like this for my RV. I am considering rebuilding a lot of the cabinetry with the lightweight plywood you used and tossing the crap built with lightweight MDF.

Yep, pretty good. Also no expensive ball bearing slides. Nice. In addition a conduit clamp top and bottom with conduit to slide in and out would be good for transportation if their are many aggressive bumps. Great idea and made in the shop!

Thanks Ron. Great flip flops haha...and totally get the non-4x4 driving issue for peeps talking about drawers sliding out. Love the wood finish on the cabinets. I'm off to watch the drawer builds next. Thanks HUGE for sharing your skills.. Peace

That's actually an old-time method of passively securing drawers in a boat or RV/travel trailer. Simple, cheap, works well.

It is a clever design for sure. Will be interesting to see if it survives the test of time.

Simple is better. I was going to comment that the drawers will bounce open but I guess my intuition was wrong. I love it when something so simple works. I worked on an automated dishwashing system design for a Navy project. The dishwasher that we were adding automated coveyors to has been around for 40 years. I work with a lot of high tech design and I was so impressed with the ruggedness and ultra simplicity of many of the dishwasher assemblies. They were refined into their simplest (smartest) form over the years. If I would have designed them they would have been much more complicated, more expensive and less reliable. The simplest design that works is often the most difficult to figure out. I love this kind of solution.

I have the old style with the screws and I only have one drawer with the screws. My drawers don't come out either. Great design in the drawer slides.

Those drawer stops will come in real handy to keep the drawers from falling on your open toe shoes.

I know lots of contractors in the Houston area that have mobile shops and trailers for equipment and everyone complains about securing the contents. Both my trailers were a nightmare and my brother straps everything down as well. Only common denominator here is the roads. Passive restraints don't work here

Oh yeah Ricky. I've lived in Houston a long time and I agree. Also I have friends who drive with reckless abandon so this drawer system would be challenged to the max. Thanks

If the drawer is on cabinet drawer slides it will move quite easily. Ron's drawers are wood against wood so there is more friction to hold them in place. He also mentioned in an earlier video that he seldom works more than 4 miles from home. When you only drive that short distance it's easier to drive conservatively without feeling like you are wasting time on the road.

What kinda of truck or vehicle are you getting to pull the smart woodshop?

Use rare earth magnets. They make them countersunk.

Ron - how do you like that Altas46 apron? I'm thinking of getting that one. I know you have your video on the other one, but just noticed this video.

It looks like you burned through the veneer in several places on the drawer fronts. Is the veneer thinner than other plywoods, or were you too aggressive?

Are those the osha approved flip flops? Don't really go along with the smart woodshop concept in my opinion.

I throw the light, and now it starts flickering... hmm.🤔
@Bubblegoose

It looks like it might be brightness controlled using PWM. So it would flicker like that on camera when it was brand new.
@rickymcgrath2314
@rickymcgrath2314 6 лет назад
There was a flickering problem in the past videos with those lights but Ron changed the frame rate on the cameras and it WAS fixed. That light is flickering in both cameras.

Ron, I really wish you would set a good example to everyone one out there and protect your feet with proper working foot wear. I'm surprised you haven't hurt yourself by now. Thank you for your video.

Yeah but if a train or a boat crashed into that trailer causing an explosion, I bet you at least one of them drawers would come out. You gotta do better Ron.
