***Please Note*** I did not film this concert. I acquired it via a trade with fellow Yes fans back in the day (Pre-DVD). Before RU-vid, videos like this were the only way to re-live the experience. They're audience shot of course, which leads to sometimes shaky movements/effects but I wanted to be able to share these historical moments with the rest of the Yes community. These were magical days.
(June 2nd 2014 Update) This show was previously published in 4 parts in error. This publishing is the full concert, with the unfortunate exceptions of 'Cinema', 'Owner Of A Lonely Heart' and 'Roundabout' which was not recorded by the person who originally filmed this.
Lineup: Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Billy Sherwood, Igor Khoroshev
Setlist
Firebird Suite
Yours Is No Disgrace 2:09
Time And A Word (Excerpt) 15:18

This show was the last time I saw Yes for many years. They were ON FIRE. The next time I saw them the tempos were way down and tightness and intensity gone. This here marks the end of the true Yes, folks. Ladder album and tour were excellent.

Not true at all. Magnification would be released a couple years after this which was absolutely brilliant. Their 'down tempo' era was a few years later where everything became a dirge.

I will never forget this show. A relatively unheralded lineup and Yes was hitting one of its performance peaks. I was fourth row, right in front of Jon. The place was an ice hockey arena that had been famous for poor sound. It was cut down in half which was a terrific configuration, then (IIRC, because at the time I thought I was dreaming) the PA was grouped into 4 units, one in each corner. I don’t know that it was a quad or 4x2 stereo. I’ve seen them dozens of times, but this, and a bit later at the House of Blues/Vegas are the two best performances. Salt Lake is a HUGE Yes market. The audience was unbelievable. The band was literally JAMMING live. Fish and Steve were absolutely amazing & Igor was simply Rick cloned. I hadn’t seen this online but thank god it was captured!! There a many shows I wish had been filmed- Thick as a Brick and A Passion Play- shows like those. Both were golden Tull moments. But I never thought I would ever, ever possibly see this one. Whoever did this: may you be blessed beyond measure and no season pass you by without the knowing grace and the gratitude of those who experienced this show.

Chills every time I hear Steve Howe play YIND! Thank you for posting. I sat front row right in front of Chris for this tour at Chastain Park in Atlanta - drove about 8 hours with no tickets and ended up in the fancy umbrella tables in the front row for face value...it was karma. Show was AMAZING.

Thank you for the post. I had seen YES many times prior to this tour. They are one of my all time favorite live and studio bands. Every time I had seen them in the past they played in 18,000 seat arenas or pavilions. It was such a thrill to see them in an intimate 2,000 seat theatre I Phoenix, AZ.. I know how excited I would get to see the harp on stage because I knew Awaken would be in the show. The big surprise was Hearts. God Bless. I miss you Chris.

***** You my friend either think liking a “Jazz Master” like Bruford makes you smarter and more elite then the next guy or you just don’t know Yes and or Drumming. To say White muddied up Yes is a joke. Bruford’s arrogant playing and insistent need to occupy space and soundscape (obvious on ABWH and UNION tours) would have greatly diminished albums like Tales, Relayer and Going For the One. DO NOT GET ME WRONG! I love Bruford. I’ve played Drums for many years and I’m a Tama and Paiste guy because of Bruford. But when it comes to Yes, Alan is the only Drummer that could have worked. Bruford and Yes were going two different directions. And as for your dumb reasonable comment I guess Ginger Baker, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, John Lennon and Yes all just wanted Alan because he was reasonable…. Stupid Prog elitists need to get off their high horses and actually listen to the music.

I was fortunate to catch Yes in 1999 on The Ladder tour, at Taft Theater in Cincinnati -- my second live Yes show ever, after having seen them two years earlier at the same venue. Remarkable show. Much unlike the 1997 show, you could really tell the band was extraordinarily proud of their new album -- as they should have been -- and showcased a sizable percentage of it live.
@MiddSouthFootball09
@MiddSouthFootball09 8 лет назад
+MrDunedon very true. The last time the band really "got behind" a new album. IIRC, they played 'Homeworld', 'It Will Be A Good Day', 'Lightning Strikes', 'Face To Face', 'Nine Voices' and 'New Language' all at some point during the Fall 99//Winter 2000 Tour. With "Magnification" they really only played 'In The Presence Of' with any regularity past 1 tour - continuing well into 2003 playing it with Rick. Shame really. Their is some really good music there with mid to late 90s YES - sadly only known to hardcore fanbase.
@MrDuneedon
@MrDuneedon 8 лет назад
***** Ya know, that WAS a shame -- because Magnification was a really, really solid album. I remember Jon talking about that album a few years after its release and he seemed really disappointed that it didn't do better, because he was very, very proud of it, and said that it contained some of Yes' best stuff in a long time. Odd, then, that they chose not to showcase much of it live.
@MiddSouthFootball09
@MiddSouthFootball09 8 лет назад
+MrDunedon I am of the belief that they kind of rushed too quickly into "Magnification" after completing "The Ladder" album + tour. I, as a young fan at the time (18) was still really into "The Ladder" and was quite surprised that another new album was coming out so relatively quickly after. IIRC, "The Ladder" came out in Sept/Oct 1999, and "Magnification" Sept. 2001, which in hindsight was also poor luck/bad timing because of 9/11. It kind of got buried quickly. You almost wish they had waited until Rick came back in 2002 and did a new proper album then instead, because we never got that final album w/ Rick. "Keystudio" being the last *new* studio recordings w/ Rick dating back to 1995/96.
@MrDuneedon
@MrDuneedon 8 лет назад
***** That's a great point. I had completely forgotten the unfortunate timing of the release of Magnification.
@dandecastro51
@dandecastro51 3 года назад
@@MiddSouthFootball09 I listen to Magnification regularly. It has SOME flaws, but objectively it's as good an LP as anything Yes ever did. And the Symphonic Yes Live DVD highlights this.

that tour was my second yes show. i was very impressed with their lattest ''ladder'' album at the time. the presence of young new musician igor koroshev and the long time friend of chris billy sherwood added something nice to their 'updated' sound back then. i can't say i like it that much when listening back to this album these days, i consider it now like an honest effort, nothing more, but still great memories of a very nice set list and tour.

+canebluff It was a great night. Nearly 20 years later "The Ladder" remains one of my top 5 Yes albums! We *Did* have the confetti, this angle may not show it but it was dispersed during the climax of 'Awaken' as they had done at the House Of Blues show earlier in the tour and likely was done all nights of the show. I was there. Although I've seen them 4 or 5 times since then in Japan, that was the last time I saw Jon, Steve, and Chris perform together. Also one of the last concerts I saw with my mother. As other people noted, The Ladder was a very underrated album, and they were really tight on that night. It's nice to see that the person who was filming understands which person to focus on at each point of the songs, unlike a lot of concert footage done by professional cameramen who are not fans.

I remember going to the Beacon to see them. The only problem was, they served booze there and I drank too much, LOL. It ruined the whole show for me.
