So I came across this clip in a preview for a retrospective on the Essen Festivals online, and although the video had a soundboard recording (I.E a much better recording then what I used here), it had a german narrator speaking over the top of it (This clip can be seen here
www1.wdr.de/mediathek/video/se... at 1:29).
So I thought I'd sync it up with the "In The Beginnings" version of the song, which while of a much lower quality, had no-one speaking over the top of it. I thought I'd upload it here also, seeing as this clip apparently hadn't been uploaded here yet (from what I can see).

Jon Anderson said he would give Peter Banks ideas, but he wouldn't even try them. Peter would then do the opposite. He also said Peter was going in two different directions, but not knowing which way he wanted to go. Finally Peter started missing band practices, which is when they saw Steve playing in another band, & asked him to join. Jon said when it came to Tony Kaye, he asked him to get a Moog Synthesizer, but Tony said all he needed was the organ. So Jon got some Moog bass pedals & augmented it with a keyboard in place of the pedals. So when they saw Rick playing with another band, Jon, Chris, & Bill said to each other: "He's good, lets ask him to join."

Only 17 seconds, but you CAN see & absorb Yes in the Banks period. The older I get, the more I appreciate what he brought to the group. I mean, those 20 songs totaling an hour & a half's worth of material is satisfying. But I can understand why they parted ways. It was musical differences for once. He wanted to go more in the Who's direction Also, the differing styles of stage presentation was a problem. You just can't have one guy going off like that. I wish they could've reached a happy medium. The most advantageous solution would've found Peter reigning it in while Anderson & Squire learned better body movement (...At that point, I mean. By Yessongs you can see Squire was good at it but all Jon had was the Joe Cocker hand deal. lol.)

I think what also hurt Peter was that he wasn't much of a songwriter, and I think they were wanting more input in that area (or if he was they sure weren't interested in what he was offering.) Neither was Tony, and look what happened to him. Sure, Rick didn't write much for Yes either, but he was their go-to arrangements guy when it came to making different musical ideas fit together. But yeah, Peter was a special musician. I'm glad Steve Howe has always tried to make sure he's remembered.

They all suffered making Time and a Word because they didn’t get on with the producer. But Peter couldn’t let it go (because most of his work is buried underneath the orchestra) and by his own admission he became difficult, so Squire fired him.

@@yes_head Yet when the opportunity arose at some point during the Union tour, Steve Howe refused to share the stage with Banks. Howe reportedly even resented having to share the stage with Trevor Rabin. Howe is a great guitar player and all that but when things come to a head he might not necessarily be the owner of a lonely heart but definitely the owner of an incredibly fragile ego.

Peter Banks's stage presence reminds me of the "This Drummer Is at the Wrong Gig" guy. I would have loved to have seen them back then.

Yes, Felix, but if Peter had remained in the band we wouldn't have had the brilliant Steve Howe.
