Damn I miss Chris Squire. He was my favorite bassist...ever plus those incredible vocals and writing skills and live talent. Ugh. His extensive body of work is practically a bass guitar lesson.
The timing! The timing. Wow. Just wow. These songs are almost impossible to reproduce live. Yet they do it with ease and grace. Just wow. Saw them three times in the eighties. Every time was a revelation. Seriously.
I'd be very impressed to hear anyone else, even a Yes tribute band, accurately have half the group playing in 7/8 and the other half in 7/4, simultaneously, as they do in the instrumental break. Then Howe starts going off entirely on his own towards the end, and finally they bring it all back together! Incredible concentration, and grooves too! My left brain is very impressed! ;-)
One of the greatest songs, the progression of the song gives me goosebumps, a masterpiece by YES, on one of the greatest albums of all times YES Album.
If first saw Yes perform live at the Boston Garden in May 1979. It was my first concert and I was blown away. They did all the songs from Fragile, YesSongs, Going for the One, Perpetual change, Starship Trooper, Yours is No Disgrace and Round About. I say them again in the 1980's and Jon Anderson in 1990's. They are remarkably talented and wrote songs to push the limits of what they could do, make music mastery, not make pop songs. Forever in my heart - Yes!
The guitar solo in Perpetual Change on the Yessongs album was stunning. And, And You and I, with Rick Wakeman coming in at the end of Steve Howe's pedal steel guitar never fails to give me goosebumps (aural orgasm).
I think this is one of Steves most wonderful performances, so much rich an moving musically, maybe just comparable with the song on the album of `yessongs` ! Oh that guitarpart !
@@EidolonMedia indeed… despite the fact that the lyrics are about a very particular time in history. “…saying we have the moon, so now the stars…” is a direct warning about man’s technological hubris in the wake of the Apollo missions (which were taking place when the song was written). Cheers!
9/10 for effort, and 9/10 for achievement, but this is NOTHING like the Yes that I saw play this live in 1971. There is something about raw energy and youth (theirs and mine) that made that time very special.
Been fascinated by this song since '71 when I was 16. Howe makes that big ES 175 probe our innermost emotion. Just one of many astonishing pieces on The Yes Album. Squire also a pioneer with the Rick O Sound. Anderson's voice ... :)
I saw Jon Anderson 3 years ago with Rabin and Wakeman performing the Greatest of Yessongs, Anderson sounded nearly flawless and the show was absolutely brilliant! Boston
Was there. So fabulous. Such a magnificent group of talented artists. God bless them all! Thank you Yes for such great music and so many memories. Onward!
I listened to Yessongs countless times when I was 15. I also got to see the original lineup in concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia, MD, August 05, 1989. Yes is phenomenal!
Would you believe it if I told you that Joe Pesci has a few albums out? No kidding. He's a guitar player too and was once replaced in a band by...I kid you not...Jimi Hendrix.
I have not heard the new Yes, the only ones there are Steve and Alan Without Jon and Rick it's not Yes. I'm sorry. I got to see A R W at The Gard Rock Hollywood on Oct 12 Jon still has the voice of angels Rick is the best alive after Kieth passing Rest In Peace Chris. We miss you
The best music will live forever and I'm hoping for it to be well played live forever too - then there will always have to be replacements for the ones retiring/passing. And there will always be worthy and willing musicians - both recreating and developing music, that's our hope for the future!
Rock On!
Yes masterworks tour saw San Diego good show thay played topographic my friend went asleep I went nuts saw yes 27 times the best 77-80 89 abwh and all 3 SLO shows keys
This group (YES) produces the sound closest to a studio version I have ever heard. The original lineup anyway. And Steve Howe looks like Billie Bob Thornton.
Currently doing the Yes Live Marathon here on youtube. Howe is a big influence. But I suddenly realised something.. I was amazed by the lack of the " Yes purists" ! Quite nice not seeing " This is Not Yes! NO Bruford NO Kaye This Is NOT YES!" For the record, all line ups are great. Drama IS a great album! Long Live Yes!
Look at my comment above; What they did. with Mr. White's co-operation, was be faithful to the the studio version AND embellish. Who is the guy to the left of Mr. Squire? Drama IS a great album--"to be assured, you draw a graph."
@@magicalmystery1964 Well, is it true that Mr. Squire expressed--in words captured by film or video--that HE would like Yes to continue in perpetuity, that is, after the demise of founding members? I have a vague memory of SEEING such video. Many claim that he DID say such a thing. Have YOU seen/heard such a thing?
@@scherado01 The guy to the left of Chris is a young Billy Sherwood. The YES bass player now. When Chris new he was dying it was his wish that Billy take over the bass position. Billy Sherwood is a very talented multi Instrumentalist. Also produces. Chris Squire wanted YES to continue.
I came over from Secular Talk to listen to this and my comment followed me! Maybe the NSA is after me! God, I love me some YES. I don't know which one is my favorite, since they have so many that I just float off to my memory land. I wonder how many headphones that I pushed just a little too far (Don't do this at home, kids). This song has been played how many thousands of times and they seek the subtle variation to add some musical gem. I will come back for more.
I will always believe Rick Wakeman is the best all around keyboardist in history , I subscribed to Rick's YT channel , this is where you can hear Rick play solo after solo of about everything ,song after song of Yes and other artist music , flawlessly.
I saw Yes live quite a few times from 1997 to 2004. I might be biased because I was in attendance, but I honestly feel like some of the band's best live work ever was performed within that time frame -- especially in 1997 (on the Open Your Eyes tour), and in 1999 (on The Ladder tour).
Totally agreed! I saw Yes well over a dozen times between 1997-2004; they were as good as any time in their career during this period. Sad how t just fizzled out. Sigh
Gosto muito desta música mas gostaria muito de ouvir A Venture ao vivo essa música tem um andamento muito bom quem tiver poste para alegria de uma fã inveterada.🍄
the keys are great! there is so much going on in this song - you got to stop and listen to him play, or try to focus on him I mean, if you can - amazing.
Wow id of give anything to be on stage next to Chris like the guy with the 12 string , Sherwood is it , ? But can you imagine !!! I was getting goosebumps watching this , oh well I can dream , as Chris has gone , and over 45 years of listening to YES I still cant get round my head that Chris has gone , its still painfull 2 years later
