It's even sadder when you play as Astarion as an Origin Character, because you can actually see where it is he goes. When he runs off, he has to hide behind a bunch of boxes where you see him curl up into a ball as he waits for the sun to go back down.
@@lawrencefosterjenkins8216My heart breaks every time this pixel man talks about the hell he's been through for 200 years while enslaved by Cazador... And you somehow just made it even worse by making me realize how heartbreaking his reality is even after getting free, in a storyline I'll most likely never play 😭
I wish the game developers would take pity on us and add an option where if your affection with him is high enough, you can chase after him and use your cloak to shield him until he gets to safety
Ikr?! There’s no way most peoples characters who got close to him would ever let him just run off alone like that. I’m sure for most people’s runs the entire team would go after him with everything they could find to make sure he was okay. It’s so sad they didn’t add anything like that. Even just a little silent animation showing tav go after him 😢
Right? He was my romance in one playthrough and my Tav NEVER would've let him run off alone to cower from the sun until nightfall. It feels like such a missed opportunity.
@@Kasiarzynka I mean, the description of the spell's effect is that even magical light doesn't penetrate it, so it should work that way. That's in actual dnd, though. I have no idea how it works in BG3.
I know right! All the spells to help him were running through my head! Darkness, Misty Step, Dimension Door, Death Ward, Haste, Warden of Vitality and the like. Though Blink was among the top as he'd be transported to another plane free from the suns harm. And Otiluke's Resilient Sphere came to mind, wondering if it'd prevent the sun damaging him. 😅 But nope. We just stand there and watch him run away with no way to help, or even run after him!
@@darkdemon943 Hmmm... destroying's a man's mind and opportunity for growth into a much better person just for the sake of standing in the sun? Yeah, that's not an even trade.
@@MidnightTea7 it's not just standing in the sun in my opinion He had experienced enough suffering at the hands of cazador and if he can't live a normal life without fear or anything else, it's not a great life, just another full of suffering like in the scene I always only play evil characters anyway and I love how self-confident he suddenly is and chaotic evil I'm happy always with my Decision and he's happy too sooooo let me just love that and do what I do
😭 i really want to run up after him. . As a lover or as his friend i want him to know i will always be there for him i want to obscure the sun so badly for him. .
My Tav would have freaked out and tackled him without even thinking, trying to shield him with her own body and her cloak and whatnot. Ooooh there would be tears. 😭
waveservant's robe dyed some red shade. :) The waveservant's robe can be acquired by doing a quest for some ladies in a temple nearby where u find Volo in act 3. U have to kill the guy they want u to kill though. And it's a bit morally iffy? Maybe a little. idk I had a hard time figuring out if it was the right thing to do or not.
I understand that the team needs a couple of minutes to realize they've won and breathe. But. My Tav paladin (who is a knight in shining armor by nature and an aristocrat by birth). Would never let that scene be like that. He would thrown a cloak over Astarion and opened an umbrella, from his inventory. I don't know how much that would have helped against the 🌄CONCENTRATED🌅 power of the Sun, maybe it wouldn't made any difference at all and Astarion continued to burn. But at least, it would be something!!! I swear, Larian! In the DLC, add an additional quest to get Astarion's cloak against the sun. Like it was with that weapon and bark in underdark. And don't care if the cloak will suck as equipment. I don't give a fuck! GIVE HIM THE CAPE. GIVE HIM AN UMBRELLA. GIVE HIM ANYTHING. 🫠😭
For real! Where's the panick, the concern for the love of our life? Instead we just let him run off as he burns in the sun and proceed with the rest of the cutscenes. Wtf? 😂 I do love Larian, there's just some of these moments that don't make a whole lot of sense.
@@nancyvu751 Astarion: "Starting to burn alive in the sun. And running away from it." Tav/Party: - ... Damn ... What a sunset...🧍🧍🧍🧍🌅 Karlach: -... Bye... 🙋💥
I have a D&D character who is a tiefling vampire spawn wizard named Harmony. She would absolutely be casting darkness on herself and Astarion as soon as she felt the first hint of sunburn. Then they could both stay longer to convince Karlach to go to Avernus with Wyll, and then she could navigate the rest of the party to the Elfsong Tavern with the help of her pseudodragon familiar (pseudodragons have blindsight) to celebrate.
I was so upset when I first saw this scene because the other companions were like "Welp, guess that's the last we'll see of him" and I thought it was a tragic ending to my Tav's romance with him T_T (was equally relieved to see him again after though!)
They added other dialogues they can say regarding Astarion, but some of them don't work and some still just sound like a Eulogy. Gale has a great one, though, where he actually sounds frantic and urgently says Astarion needs them now more than ever. It's very sweet. I swear Halsin and Wyll's reactions during dockside scenes are why I just can't like those characters.
If it makes you feel any better, DnD 5E includes an item called the “Ring of the Sunwalker” or something, that when worn by a vampire, allows them to walk freely in the sun
@@ra1nyran In the epilogue party he tells you he's come to terms with his nature, that he's at peace with his limitations, but you can promise you will still help him find a way to walk in the sun, and he's grateful and hopeful. Alternatively, according to his grave stone, he technically has two years left before he hits the 200 year deadline for True Resurection. It's expensive to cast but you likely have friends in high places by the end of the game. It would resurrect him, cured of vampirism. Alternatively a Wish spell could potentially cure him or give him a boon like sunwalking.
I saw him starting to burn when I finished the game today… I feared the worst. But in my run he ends up just being a sort of hero who kills and feeds off of bad guys and is chill with living in darkness. Which I think really suits him. So that was fine with me. I wish I hadn’t become an illithid though.
that's what i feared too, having to turn into a mindflayer. i think karlach and orpheus are the only two that you can convince to transform into illithids instead of Tav.
It actually pisses me off that no one in the group rushes to help him. It's the final scene of the game. Grab a tarp off from a nearby box and toss it over him, and help him walk inside. Or at least run after him to help. He could die.
Yea, the sun vulnerability being taken away really was a great gift for Astarion. Probably one of the few things outside of that brain tree that are a great gift of the little buggers floating around.
I hate that I have to HEADCANON that my Tav goes after him. Honestly, once the Karlach situation is dealt with, the rest of us are splitting up and looking for him. My Tav would be so worried about him, wanting to make sure he was alive and was able to get somewhere safe.
In the epilogue party update they made it so if you were romancing him, he did reconnect with you and you went on to do whatever you had planned in an earlier scene, then came to the party together. If you were not romancing him, at the epilogue party he confesses that he avoided you after what happened on the dock due to shame. He felt weak and disgusting and like a monster again, so he went into hiding, but over the six months came to terms with what he is and realized he is a hero, too, and was eager to reconnect. It's very sad and sweet.
No joke I started tearing up again when he said “nice while it lasted” during my playthrough. Legit thought he was gonna die after the shit they pulled with Karlach :(
I haven’t played to act 3 yet (i keep restarting) why tf is he being so nice??? Bro went from Evil murder man to “Oh my apologies good sir i appear to be melting Oopsie daisy”
THE WAY I WOULD BE RUNNING AFTER HIM 😭 ITS OKAY HE ENDS UP HIDING TO WAIT FOR THE SUN TO GO DOWN AND I WOULD STAY WITH HIM FR ALL DAY HE DOESNT HAVE TO DO THIS ALONE
Me as Tav : MC : chases after him* Darling! * grabs a heavy canvas cloth from t one the bows of the ships, and covers him with it, persuading roll the captain to take Astarion below deck * Save your Baldurian heart lets wait here together in the shadows, my love. ❤ Astarion : * hugging the cloth around him * Thank you, darling. We make quite the team you know. MC : * reaches for him, cuddling him, kissing his forehead* Indeed we do, my love , indeed we do. * Tav holds Astarion close to her, hearing him sigh and purr with satisfaction, as they both wait for the cool of night to come. *
Nah i would've pulled a tanjiro and covered him(if theres any demon slayer fans who has seen the swordsmith village arc they know what im talking about)
Is this something that happens at the end, or do you have to do something to activate it? If the latter, how does his mind flayer tadpole stop helping him with the sunlight?
It's at the end, if you choose to force the Netherbrain to kill itself. As it dies, it sends out a signal that cripples all the mind flayers and destroys any tadpoles. It takes a little while for the protection to wear off (which is an even bigger kick in the teeth because for a few minutes Astarion thinks he might keep his immunity), but he starts burning when it does.
You see him in the epilogue and if you chose to save the spawn, he will admit that he likes being in the shadows despite missing that time when he was immune to sunlight
I think this is the only time he ever apookigises for exhibiting any vampire characteristics. Astarian enjoys heen a vampire and eternally yiung but thisnone instant he actually is sorry and says that rsther than just running away. It hurts my heart when he says it because he has nothing to apologise for.
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a scene where if Jaheira is there she yells for him to get to safety but everyone else is like wow *shrugs* sucks to suck LIKE WTF
Fortunately, they at least removed this stupid fragment where TAV indifferently looks after him. In my very first playthrough - Astarion ran away, my TAV looked at his path with a rotten, indifferent look, and turned away to the others. Minsk said some nonsense about sunflowers, Shadowheart also said nonsense, and then Karlach broke the ending and the credits rolled. It had such a strong impression on me that I cried periodically for several days later.
I’m confused by this scene because once after we won Atarion wasn’t affected by the sun at all and saying something like “and look I’m not being affected by the sun! Something must have happened that allows me to stay unaffected haha!” At first I thought maybe it’s because of my affinity being high but then on my next play through he goes back to burning
Tav is the default name for any custom character, durge is something people nicknamed the "Dark Urge" playthrough you can do, which is basically a custom character just like Tav, but inherently evil.
If Gale and Astarion are romanced (regardless of who you are playing) and Gale ascends he can BRING HIM WITH HIM!! He can straight up give Astarion (or Karlach if you go that route) a semi-godhood that does indeed, cure his vampirism.
He can. I have reloaded before to see what happens and there are multiple scenes that are kind of randomized. Even if you make the same choice. So in my first he mentioned the elfsong. In my reload he didn’t say anything and other people were featured.
I'm playing a pretty solidly good run (except for a few random murders) and it says my standing with him is "exceptional." Haven't tried an evil run yet. He does disapproves of a lot of choices still, but apparently not enough to really affect his status with me.
Long as you figure out his deal and make the big choices correctly, he'll end up liking you, and even becoming a little nicer by extension. I have a mod that tells you possible affection gain/loss in the dialogue options, which helps. Tbf, though, I didn't have it the first time I made him like a good character, I'm just saying it's a nice mod to have so I don't have to keep reloading quick saves for parts of the game I haven't done yet (now I do that just see what'll happen...like letting him get carried away by a vampire hunter. It was /kinda/ funny 😂 )
Sorry but i will never not laugh at this because when i got this cutscene i had accidentally removed ALL his equipment so he was scampering away completely starkers
