Hopefully the last video modifying this cabinet! I seem to have it dialed in to near perfection!

No one can ever make too many Abrasive Blasting Improvements videos. Looks good.

I used one similar in size from Menards. I removed the light housing from the frame and handle and just set it on top of the glass at top center. Lights the whole inside with no shadows. No mounting or screwing and I can just pick it up and move it if I had to. Turn it on and off easily.

Great idea for the LED work light and location, I have one that I didn’t use so I’m going to use it for my cabinet! Thanks Bro!

This is pretty much what I'm planning for mine, just as soon as I can get hold of a compressor big enough to supply it, and the 240V circuit to run said compressor!

Lighting... I found just using an LED hi-power spot light and leaving it to roll around on the screen works best. I actually have two in the cabinet. Then, I can move the light at-will or hold it to get shadow-free illumination.

Fascinating video! I’m just confused at how the hoses underneath work together and how that helps circulate the sand.

I do not see this question addressed in the comments yet sooo... how are the lines run into the cabinet? There is the one airline that the cabinet came with but how is the blasting media getting back in from the metering valve? /where did you plumb it back into the cabinet?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 3 года назад
I just drilled a hole in the side of the cabinet under the door on the right side. The hose from the metering valve goes through that hole and into the gun. Going through that same hole is also the air line.

@@1D10CRACY thanks! I already did the sand vacuum with a generic dust deputy and lighting with led floodlights in the top back corners... and the switch, changed blast guns... metering valve and coal slag are next! Mine works okay- but not fabulous... oh and I need to install my air dryer on my compressor! That should help a lot!! Thanks again! T

Great video! I just got this cabinet and a few modifications & I plan on assembling it this weekend. My question is about the hose coming off the metering valve. You said you used a 5/8" hose so I'm wondering if you had to then step it down to whatever size hose the gun takes. I haven't opened mine yet so I don't know what size hose it comes with but don't think it's that large so I'm wondering how you necked your 5/8" hose down. Thanks for the great video, most of the mods I plan to make came out of your video.

so my question would be; how much did you end up spending after all the upgrades? Would I have been better off just to buy a better blast cabinet from the start instead of having to do all these upgrades?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 3 года назад
The most expensive upgrade was the Eastwood kit, coming in at $60 bucks. But even if you bought a higher end cabinet, that may be one of those things you would choose to upgrade anyhow. Everything else was pretty cheap, I would say I'm still ahead of the game when it comes to dollars spent.
@darkshadowsx5949
@darkshadowsx5949 2 года назад
better blast cabinets start at like $1600. there's no "good" cabinet that doesn't require upgrades below that. they probably sell these cabinets at a loss and make money back on blast media. like companies do for inkjet printers.

Could I use plastic fittings for the metering device? It would cut down on the weight hanging from the trap door, which isn't anything too heavy.

I bought the Eastwood gun and pedal. The pedal sticks. No matter how much I lube it. The gun will not pick up a siphon. I’ve got 10 horse Eric compressor 80 gallon tank. Been screwing with this for days. This sucks so many good reviews for this garbage but nobody talks about the bad ones.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY Год назад
Maybe you need to contact Eastwood for a replacement. The one I purchased in the video I'm still using. I run mine between 80psi and 110psi depending on the material.

regarding the blasting pistol, what size is the treadwire at the rear ( pale ) and the female at the bottom? have a similar one with only male tread on the rear and empty hole with inside treading on the lower. sadly the seller doesn't know the sizes of that

Looks Awesome! Question, where does the black heater hose connect to thats connected to the "T" on the bottom? I couldn't see where it went? Thanks!
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
Its actually the hose that connects to the sandblasting gun. It's a bit deceiving as it wasn't long enough to reach the sandblasting gun, so half way up it connects to a different hose that then connects to the sandblasting gun.
@darkc99c
@darkc99c 5 лет назад
@@1D10CRACY You have described the metering valve in two videos, but still haven't shown how you get the heater hose to the gun. You show where you're pulling the media out of the container, but not how you're returning it to the inside of the sealed cabinet.

Do you hook a second air hose to the metering valve or just let it suck air in?

Good job on the metering valve! Can you show/describe how you mounted the plate to the cabinet? Is it screwed in? Adhesive? Weld? Also, what made you decide on 3/4"? I've seen a few DIY but the others are like 1 1/2".
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
I just drilled a 1" inch hole into the release door on the bottom, and used 4 small bolts to fasten the flange too it. 3/4" seems perfect, not sure I would change anything, I'm very pleased with how it operates now.

Have weird questions what is the biggest size car rim you can fit into that cabinet?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 3 года назад
I put 17.5 RV rims in it, but it was a tight fit. There are some modifications where you can lower the grate floor and get more height.
@quickcalsgarage4782
@quickcalsgarage4782 5 лет назад
When you say you shortened the light bracket, do you mean from side to side. Or the height. Is it so the knobs clear the gloves?.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
The original bracket let it hang down about another inch. I shortened it so it was snug against the top of the cabinet.
@quickcalsgarage4782
@quickcalsgarage4782 5 лет назад
My knobs just barely miss the gloves so I didn't mess with it for now. I may shorten it up later. I opted to go ahead and put 2 lights in. I put the second one over in the upper left corner. The brackets that came with these lights makes it super easy to mount anywhere. I'm glad I added the second light. Helps a lot. Thanks for the suggestion on this type light.

What purpose does the shutoff valve serve that's right after the metering valve
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 4 года назад
It allows you to adjust the air that gets mixed into the sand mix. The more you open the valve, the less sand but more air you'll get.
@quickcalsgarage4782
@quickcalsgarage4782 5 лет назад
So by mounting the light there, does it get blocked by the gloves when moving around?
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
Not that I have noticed. I'm right handed and am usually holding the gun in my right hand and the part in my left, the light in between the gloves seems to be ideal.

@@kevinmullins4919 Black Diamond from TSC (Tractor Shop). Its Coal Slag, I prefer Coal Slag because it's safer on the lungs than Sand. It also sprays easier than sand, and sometimes play sand isn't refined enough to use in a blast cabinet. Cost is $7.99 for a rather large bag that last for a very long time.
