Another noise "related" module, the Sample & Hold is a given in most modulars to give some random CV voltages for controlling both VCOs, VCAs and VCFs etc etc... In this episode I build the YASH or Yet Another Sample and Hold designed by René Schmitz.
Day 6: Noise (Noise, S&H, Random gates)

I started assembling my system now and will build the power supply according to your instructions. Awesome work!

finally got this one working. don't know why but it gave me a bunch of trouble. Had some space left on my board so I added the super simple white noise onto the switched pin of the input, so it will just use that as the default. fun!

Dude thank you so much for your videos! I started building my own synth and I wouldn’t have gotten that far without your Videos!

That is great! I am happy if my videos will help get birth to more diy synths in the world! 👍😉

Hello again. Been looking forward to this build. Love the comments below, very helpful. Will definitely try the portamento circuit as well. Like others, the non-polycap sound is actually pretty cool and I will try a switch on that. My question is - where exactly did you put the internal trig on/off switch? I don't think I see it in the schematic - correct? Ok, thanks as always and take care!
5 лет назад
Sorry for the late reply,.. Your questions always requires a look at the schematics that is why it takes time ;) So now I have looked, and if you look at the input jack on the schematics it is a breaking circuit there so if something is connected to the jack then the internal trig is disabled. I just added a switch instead of that breaker on the jack. And just added the two signals together. That way I can have BOTH internal and External triggers. Hope that helps...

@ thanks for the reply! Well the delay forces me to figure it out😀. So that's basically what I thought, as you described. I'm also going to put switches on the two caps as you suggest so it will be really interesting! Thanks again. On holiday as you Europeans say, so the build will wait for my return. Take care.

Definitely put that cap on a switch!

I can see Dwarfcraft Devices making this as a pedal and keeping the no capacitor option as either a second output or on a switch. It's so dirty and cool sounding LOL.

I did a small portamento circuit that does some more interesting stuff to the sound, check out the build vlog and end sound results here: www.patreon.com/posts/live-build-vlog-24152233

I dont get the routing of the cd4093 from the yasH schematic. Do we have to connect the Output of the First logic gate into the inputs of the next two logic gates, leaving one for the Autotrigger?
2 года назад
Yes. As I have understood it it is to shorten the trigger but really not sure if it actually does that? 🧐 maybe try with just one? 🤷‍♂️

does anyone know if the 4006/4093 (is that correct?) can be replaced with the 40106? struggling to see which IC is needed or appropriate alternative? thx
3 года назад
Try. The 4093 is a hex inverter. The 40106 is a hex Schmidt trigger inverter. The circuit is there to create a really short pulse. And I THINK the 40106 would work aswell.

What does it do with "wrong" capacitors? Is it between the normal behaviour and no capacitor? Cool Module :-)
5 лет назад
No it’s like the no capacitor sound. It doesn’t “lock” the signal. It does sound cool in some situations anyway as you get an “envelope” so kind of instant basedrum in some cases. And we like that! ;)

I have to try this :-)

I was inspired by everyone who like the "nocap" version, and thought it sounded a bit "portamento" like, so check this build to add a portamento circuit, it'll be a future video probably, for now just a live build video :) The end result sound is also very cool, somewhere inbetween cap and no cap or something ;) www.patreon.com/posts/live-build-vlog-24152233

i googled this circuit and found this video, did you change anything or works ok with +-12v? good job with these videos... i see you didn't build any vcf yet... also sequencer, i'm building one with arduino and 4051s
5 лет назад
Yes works great with +-12v without any changes. Filters is the next "day" day 7, which starts next week wednesday! :)

@ built it and works. I found a little mod on the web. bypass the 470p capacitor with a switch and the module become a track and hold: when the trig is low the last voltage is held.

stronzio666 oh nice! I will definitely try that mod! Thanks for sharing! :)

Hi Kristian! Built this one, but it sounds as if it has a portamento included!! Haha used a polyprop (the blue boxed ones), which was told was ok (a guy in the fb synth diy group told me he asked Rene and said that was ok). Just checked everything and seems right. I tested it with the internal lfo... Do you have any idea of what could be, where can I look?
4 года назад
I still think it might be the cap that doesn’t hold the voltage. If you remove the cap you’ll notice a much stronger “portamento”. I think that is the problem at least. Do you have a video of the sound?
@alebrenna441
@alebrenna441 4 года назад
I have, let me try and upload it to yt (never done that!!). I also have some of the other pp caps to try out (they told me they are mylar caps (?), those green plastic ones). Another topic now that I'm revisiting your videos: don't know if you still are into filters: did you checked the skulls and circuits vactrol vcf? Sounds really nice for it's simplicity! (I switched red leds and 2n4148 for different resonances).

Hmm... sounds cool but portamento yes. Does it always go “down” or up aswell?
@alebrenna441

I chamged the cap, still portamento, up and down, and it's doing kinda an upgoing effect, like, pitch is going higher and higher! (I stopped the video, but it continues). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C5VUbB9i-xU.html
