That is a beautiful restoration! I just wish some museum somewhere would keep a flying F-14 (preferably a D model). It's a crime that these aren't brought out for flight demos at air shows.

Let's be honest, a properly restored F-14, in flight-worthy condition,... given modern avionics,.. do you think the US government would really want to risk that falling in to the hands of anyone wanting to do evil? Even unarmed, a Supersonic fighter jet used as low level projectile, in to a LNG tanker ship parked in a port,.. it'd make the Beirut blast look like a firecracker. There's a Harrier in private hands (ex US Naval Aviator who flew them), and the loophole to that sort of ownership was closed.

I visited the Yorktown with my sons Cub Scout troop years ago, what an experiance. We actually spent a few nights "Camping" on the ship wich was quite the adventure for our scouts. To my suprise, I saw my first F14 up close, I'm assuming it was the one featured in this video. This meant a lot to me as my late father was a Tech Rep for Grumman Aerospace and was assigned to the F14 program. This is a great museum worthy of seeing if your into Naval history.

@@User-nu6km Yikes. Terrible idea. The United States is so serious about not letting foreign countries obtain F-14 hardware that they shreded almost all of them aside from the demilitarized airframes (that are really just shells) that have been stripped of anything of value by the United States government that are in muesems. Thats also a quite poor choice considering the Iranians are enemys of the U.S. and have been trying to keep their fleet of Cats running for a very long time. If the Tomcat was not such a big asset to them they would have just sold their old aging fleet to some smaller country or would have scrapped them a long time ago.

I don't agree, it would be like using a 1970's F1 car to race today's races. It was great relative to it's contemporaries and it's required role but has nothing on today's tech. It would however be amazing to see it flying at airshows etc. (Unless that's what you mean and it's just our differing definitions of "in service" :D

They retired the worlds most dominant fleet defender for cost reasons and are now ordering F-16's again, because the F-35 is just to costly. You can't understand everything. But one thing is for sure, the F-14 Tomcat will be the Fighter of my heart until end of days

Too bad you had zero interest in at least preserving the USS Clamagore much less restoring it. I'm sure many fellow submariners feel the same when I say that your care of Clamagore has been dismal at best. Especially when you consider the numerous other boats of comparable age preserved throughout the USA, of which none are in the disastrous condition that you allowed Clamagore to get in and none of which are due to be taken offshore and sunk.

It’s a money issue. Museum ships are fearfully expensive, and they are spending the majority on the Yorktown which itself is badly in need of an overhaul. It has been in water since 1977 so you can imagine what the hull and keel looks like. They are doing the best they can with what they have.
